hopes, dreams, and fears for sisters in 8th

Yikes. According the Blood Angels' rules Hand Flamers only inflict D3 hits and have a 6" range. That's a massive nerf to Seraphim.

Flip side is that it,s a pistol so you can do that while in combat too.

They will have the fly rule so will be able to leave combat in their turn which makes being able to fire the pistols when locked moot... unless you wish to keep your strengh 3 toughness 3 models without much in the way of melee weapons or prowess in a fight for some reason
One of the Acts of Faith is apparently an out of sequence shooting attack. Shoot, disengage during movement, then shoot AGAIN.

There are now images up on Faeit 212 and other places on the web.

The repentia eviserators now no longer crack heavy armour, our tanks lack act of faith meaning no bonus move for units mounted in them or double tapping Exorcists, the only way to scale Acts of Faith is to by Imganifers, so the base line power of the army devalues as games get bigger a d penitent engines lost their invulnerable save.

Seems about right.

Some random small blessings/observations:

  • Dominions' Vanguard move allows them to Advance. This means they can potentially make an 18+3D6" move entirely on foot on turn one before shooting their Meltaguns on a 4+.
  • The Mistress of Repentance has Angelic Visage???
  • Death Cult Assassins have four attacks each and Zealot. That's a lot of attacks that reroll all misses on the charge.
  • The Geminae now have 2+ saves.
  • The Canoness' Eviscerator is the regular one, not the lesser one Repentia get.
  • The Hand Flamer available to Seraphim apparently does D6 hits even though the Death Company one does D3???

Here's a weird one: You don't place a marker when Celestine dies, she either comes back within 2" of any surviving Geminae or gets to immediately redeploy as if Deep Striking. Also I just love how she doesn't die if she fails to revive, she's simply "needed elsewhere."

The ability to counter psychic powers is an absolute joke.

We can attempt to deny a power by beating the casting score on a single d6.

So far every power we have seen has a value of 5 or greater so the only chance we get to actually counter spells is if they are power 5 ones where the caster rolled only a 5 on 2d6 and then and only then will we get a 1 in 6 chance to counter the spell.

Not really, in 7th adamantium will boosts every single dice being used in a deny the witch test boosting the chance to counter any power substantially.

In 8th only the weakest spells can be countered on the off chance the caster rolled massively bellow average on 2d6.

So a few thoughts:

Acts of faith - don't scale at all. Imagifiers only work with large squads because they cost so much you could buy an extra small squad (guns and all) for the cost of two of them (as they don't work half the time)

The powers themselves allow for regeneration of a lost special weapon (hospitaller does the same thing with the same odds) or (most likely use) extra shooting, though only before you move so you have to be in short range after the end of your opponents turn.

Shield of faith - still on vehicles (yay). Would seem to have little actual in-game effect though. As noted above if your opponents psychic roll is low enough to beat they have probably already failed to get their power off.

Moral - sisters gonna run.

The exorcists seem surprisingly durable compared to predators.

Isn't going from no chance to dispel to a slim one a substantial boost?

Adamantium Will certainly increased your odds of blocking powers significantly, but your chances of blocking even a two-die success with a pool of D6 dice was pretty slim and that was with you going all-in against a single power. You were basically counting on your opponent giving you single-dice successes to have any real chance of reliably countering powers.

I am a little bothered by the fact we have 11 elites choices.

3 HQ, 1 Troop, 2 Fast, 3 Hvy, 2 Dedicated transports...

And Eleven Elites...

This could create some issues with FoCs, I'd imagine. Repentia with a Mistress now take up two Elites slots, a Battle Conclave could be 2-4 slots and (seemingly) each Priest or Sister with Imagifier is another slot in their own right.

It has went from a low odds chance of stopping any power which was much better than any other army without psyker support got from a low odds chance to only stopping the lowest level powers when your opponent fluffs it up. That is nothing but a downgrade in psychic resistance.

I'm not feeling any pessimism with this list at all! I'm pretty excited about it!

Canoness ability is great to combine with Retributors and it's now not unrealistic to expect said Retributors to be able to fire twice each turn! Exorcist looks nice and scary and I love the range on the new Immolator Flamer.

I had been looking at running a Brigade Detachment, but was concerned at how many points the 3-6 Elites would run to - but now I know I can fill them with Imagifiers (and hospitals) and not have to worry!

The only negative I can see is that you can't put a Canoness in an Immolator with your Dominions if you want the Vanguard move. Which is a real shame.

One final thought - (unless there's any Adepta Sororitias specific Detachments, which I'm not expecting) since it all counts as the same faction if it is Imperium, I'm considering running a Land Raider Crusader with a 15-Sister Battle Sister Squad with Canoness.

The Detachments question is interesting.

I was at Warhammer Fest, and it was explained that keeping your detachment keywords quite focused (Everyone is a Blood Angel) for example would get you access to specific command abilities whereas if everyone was just in the imperium, you would have only the generic command abilities.

However, in these leaks I have seen no sign of any command abilities at all. Maybe that's a level of detail thats coming in Codexes?

At the moment, no reason not to mix things in from the entire Imperium.

Sisters in Valkyries anyone?

Isn't going from no chance to dispel to a slim one a substantial boost?

Chance of rolling a 5 on 2d6 is 1/9... so the shield of faith is going to work less than 2% of the time, and only against the weakest psychic powers in the game.

Perhaps at some point in the future the sisters will get relics or other new rules that factor it in.

Fair enough. I was really off the mark with that one.

On another note: I'd really appreciate some help in shortlisting some things to try and get sorted for around the turn of the edition. I'm already looking to order 2-3 Sisters with Imagifiers, a squad of Repentia and three Penitent Engines (I held back on the latter two after the wobble that came with the Transport rules), but beyond that I'm not really sure. Are Multimelta/Heavy Bolter Retributors worth considering now that they can potentially shoot twice per turn, particularly with a cheap Canoness for rerolls?

Holy struth! Celestine at S7 in combat. Tasty.

I'm saddened the exorcist didn't get another firing mode and that its d3 damage. Expected but still hoped.

Flamer immolators will hit my table again. 12 move +d6 and can fire immolation flamer at 12"!? Yeah baby.

Units that should be in a command squad are taking up Elite spots. If you've enough Simulacrum Imperialis' to fit all your squads with one, they're now taking up an Elite spot. Blessed Banner (command squad) & the battle banner - dropped.

Currently, for anti-psychic I was planning on using the Sisters of Silence for that, just undecided on how many & style to build them as.

Huh, no mention on condemnor boltguns...im kinda annoyed that sisters of silence are a thing now seeing as antipsyker was a SoB stick, now even thats being taken away from them.

Hopes....all Sisters grow wings and become angelic figures with boltguns flying around wrecking face.

...but we all know thatll be given to marines

They're mentioned on the very first page in the Wargear section msn-wink.gif
