I, Brother Chaplain Kage, pledge a single HQ unit of a chaplain for this month. I've always had a soft spot for the boys in black and my screen name adequately reflects that. They were my go-to HQ unit back when I still played being a bargain of a decent stat line with a 4++ and a power weapon and I like the way they're looking in 8th as well. I'm not sure what figure I'll go with as I have a number of them to choose from.

That's not counting two that I couldn't find (the old terminator chappie and the one with the power fist Come At Me Bro pose) or the three custom ones I've built. Considering how much I want to personalize these guys, it will probably be plastic and greenstuff, but I've been waffling the past few days and I'm thinking making the pledge official will get the fires going.

--Overview--
The basis of my project for A Tale of Hobbyists is to build my Iron warrior force for 8th edition. The foundations of the force were already in place but I put them on hold when 8th was announced so I could make sure what I had to do for the new version. To help theme my force I am constructing them around the battle of the Zhaldof system. With the great rift opening up, many worlds thought to be safe from harm became dragged into conflict. The Zhaldof system being one such location, has been targeted by the Iron Warriors, with the intent on securing the system as a staging ground for further incursions into Imperial Space.

--Update 1 | Week 1--
Following the theme of month 1, Get stuff done, I'm focusing on completing the core of my army. So for the first month:
I, Marqol, pledge Warsmith Kraetor, two squads of Chaos Marines, the Leviathan Dreadnought Acimus, and three sturdy armoured containers to start the process of building up my scenery and realm of battle board.

Warsmith Kraetor, needs his axe fixed and a helmet plus detailing.

Squad 1, half the squad is finished, leaves 5 to go through various stages.

Squad 2 is in a similiar stage as the first squad, though with less members finished.

The Hellbrute Acimus, freshly built. Ready for the paint.

  I, Lemainus, vow to complete a series of minis based on my homebrew Loyalist Chapter, the Iron Lions - fluff, squads, a diorama, all with the goal of telling a story that hopefully people enjoy.

 

  I also vow to include a bunch of cool sh*t related to Malice beating the intestines out of literally everyone to heavy metal tuned to drop D, specifically, in a multitude of cadences.  

 

 First Up:

 

 

 

  Homaaz, the Wounded Phoenix.

 

  Homaaz is an Iron Lion veteran captain with Terminator Honors, seconded to the Deathwatch nearly a decade ago. He has returned with a small Kill Team to assist his Chapter in fighting this new threat - this cult of silent horrors. He has, for centuries, soldiered against heresy, and at many intervals sustained wounds so severe that apothecaries pronounced him dead. But he recovers - every time. He was bestowed his Honor Name, Homaaz, in reverence of this. A hero raised up by wings of golden fire, unwilling to let go, unable to die.

 

 

 

Ahvi, the Old King's Guardian Serpent.

 

Through the blackness beyond the edge of the galaxy, across a bridge of souls, there is a mountain of death and bronze. Atop the mountain be an Old King, from when, we know not. From whence, we know not. For to ask him these questions, for the Old King's insights to ponder, one must be worthy - and Ahvi's spear decides who is worthy - and so it has always been. 

 

I also got a little overexcited and did not take progress pictures of these two guys... but they went from primed white to finished yesterday!

 

 

  Raashe is the resident tech officer within The Murder of Crows, assigned to Inquisitor Vjka. They've been assigned to assist the Iron Lions with the task of holding the sector against the onslaught of Malice.

 

 

Summoned by soul sacrifice and bloody ritual, Uzdarmah is a goliath among the Doomed Ones, gifted with a thunder hammer blessed by the God Apart - every strike empowered by warpfire and lightning black as night.

Month 1 - Update 1

 

I pledge to muster the forces of the Ultramar Auxilia 60th Armoured Cohort (and support) for this Tale. The main focus of this project is on the forces under Centurion Traianus during the Battle for Macragge. Traianus will be supported by Saul Invictus' 1st company to represent part of Calgar's task forces. 

 

To start off we have the First Contubernium of Traianus his Century. They will be joined by Agent Vitus (hehe) of the Frumentarii Discipline Corps.

 

In addition I vow to finish this small squad of Sagittarii Auxilia. -Promise to have better pictures for the finished goods

 

So up to now I'm just pulling roman names and nomenclature off wikipedia without any proper historical knowledge, maybe a good idea to start a separate WIP thread to give every unit a nice proper title and background? :P

Hi everyone, during the Tale of Hobbyists 2017 I will try to finish three different small armies for 8^th Edition.  The Invasion of Leporis is about a Khorne Daemonkin horde called the Branzen Hounds invanding a planetary system in which there is a very important AdMech mining colony from Ryza. After every completitions I will update the fluff.

Alright, I'm willing to admit I was wrong. In the sign-up thread, I was originally going to do an Imperial grand army, of mostly Guard and Marines. I started having mixed feelings about 8th edition, and the initial reactions about the leaks were mixed in my LGS. I was going to swap my project to Heresy. Having played a game of 8th, and going through the leaks in detail...I was wrong. Oh how wrong I was. I love 8th. It's sooooooooo simple, in a good way. Now I'm going to amend my project again.

 

I, Larkyn, hereby pledge the project known as The Fall of Lothric, which is a project which is going to feature Imperial Knights of House Larkyn, Astra Militarum of the Cadian 710th, and Adeptus Astares and Astartes Primaris of the Azure Serpents Chapter. The forces of the Imperium will be opposed primarily by elements of the Thousand Sons and the Alpha Legion.

 

Month One will see part of the remnants of Azure Serpents, in the form of a Tactical

Combat Squad, 5 Marines.

My most recent project has been Eldar Corsairs so I'm really excited to start some Astartes again, especially with the Primaris on the horizon. I can appreciate the work that's gone into those LED heads but even the painted chaplain head looks way, WAY too bright. That's like Doomsday in that awful DC movie shooting the heat beams out of his eyes that lit up his entire face.

*shudders* I see what you mean BCK, believe me they're no where near as bright in real life. Limitations of the iPhone camera I'm afraid. However a few thin layers of dark blue to the eye sockets did tone it down a lot

Hmmmmm.... some crackin good works already!! I've been remiss in my hobby duties this last week gents.

On a positive note I've decided to forego my planned Iron Warriors as I happened on 20 more blood angel tacticals with all the FW goodies and 2 predators/ a rhino and a razorback all with FW goodies for a pretty fine deal.

My siege of Terra army is now awaiting the vehicles mentioned before as well as 2 javelins and a Deimos laser vindi. Thinking the javelins will look good red and the vindis are going to be yellow:)

My airbrush air valve got clogged -dumb mistake I made in leaving a small amount of paint in and running airbrush cleaner through without following up with water and thinner to flush it all the way out.

I now know the inner workings of a badger krome more intimately than I ever really wanted to so if anyone needs a hand feel free to reach out;)

My wife is heading to the woods for a ladies retreat tomorrow and all the kiddos are away so me, my airbrush and several fresh pots of paint are going to get it on!!

Well first months challenge is underway for me.

I was planning on doing a 4' x 8' board covering the scummy underhive for games of SW:A, 40k and Necromunda. But I've now changed it to a 4' x 4' board and a star scape board for BFG (plus X-Wing).

This morning the boards were just stacked without any paint but now they've been slapped a fair bit with paint. ;)

The Underhive one has now been gloss varnished. Here's a starting WIP pic ...

Iron Bars – what is your tech-priest based on/built out of?

Lemainus – nice use of Sigmarine parts. Where is the head on the hammer armed one from?

Kage – looking good with that hearsay era jump pack.

Binary – the glowing marines look great, though the neck glowing as well as the eyes looks a bit odd. I assume the batteries are in the base, how long do they last?
