mertbl
He is incorrect as the rules are written. However he is free to run his event with whatever restrictions he wants. Then why even have army lists? Just one big book of imperial units. Like I said, our TO said each army book/list required its own detachment but they could interact however with each other depending on the keywords. You can bring Marnius Calgar and a few units of Blood Angels and a few units of IG, but they each require their own detachments which is easy to do in the current system. To do otherwise and we are playing that stupid Unbound style from last edition. zero88
Would you guys recommend loading a Tauroz Prime with missiles or the battle cannon? Both go well with the autocannon, and the missiles are Damn expensive but the versatility is amazing. Plus with the enhanced durability of vehicles now and the removal of damage charts it looks like the extra 22 points might be worth it. The gatling gun and volley gun is in a completely different category for me since it fills a different role (and is a great loadout on its own) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/334370-8th-ed-tactics-thread/page/9/#findComment-4802606 Share on other sites

mertbl
Per faq, command squads are now limited to 1 per commander. How does this change your plans? My 2k list was already rocking 2 company and 2 tempestus commanders do mine changed very little. Gen.Steiner
Not a jot, because if I take a command squad it's because it's got a commander to go with it, not because it's a mini special weapon squad. I've never used command squads as special weapon squads and don't intend to now.A command squad should have a medic, a vox, and a heavy weapon team (lascannons are good) or a standard and a special weapon. Harrowmaster
Probably won't effect me too much, I plan to take enough commissars and tech priests to fill out any minimum requirements. Withershadow
I got 4 commanders and 2 tempestors, and exactly that many command squads. No plans changing here. Valkyrie wasn't errataed so I guess that tactic is good to go. Plasmablasts
Just noted: the GSC Vanquisher cannon has been reduced to S8, so apparently that was the typo, not the AM version. Gen.Steiner
Damn shame about the Vanquisher cannon. S9 would have made it much more effective. Ah well. WarriorFish
At least it's consistent, better than nothing! Got my first Guard game in for 8th yesterday and it's looking good for artillery lists. Solid units and of course putting plenty of boots on the table will go a long way in 8th. I was pleased with my Hellhounds too, and the mortar and heavy bolter HWSs were good Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/334370-8th-ed-tactics-thread/page/9/#findComment-4806549 Share on other sites
Bmseifer
I had a game yesterday with me bringing a mix of ultramarines and AM against a Sisters army. The two Wyverns I had was insanely good vs his T3 infantry. The dice gods might have been smiling my way, but I killed 3-4 sisters with each volley from each wyvern. I also brought 2 storm tooper squad which deleted a penitent engine the turn they dropped in, only to be flamed to death the next turn Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/334370-8th-ed-tactics-thread/page/9/#findComment-4806602 Share on other sites
Gen.Steiner
Wyverns are designed to murderise T3 troops. Good to hear that they do that well. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/334370-8th-ed-tactics-thread/page/9/#findComment-4806741 Share on other sites
NatBrannigan
Horray for the Command Squad ruling! I'm just generally impressed with everything I've used so far. Guard seem really strong to me but I've only played Marines and we're al still learning how to play our armies. I suspect a Lascannon Devastator Squad would have ruined my Tanks day, but unmolested they tore everything near them apart. With that in mind I can see how Artillery is going to be great this edition. Shamansky
Dice gods, huh?... Commisar, sir, we've got a situation here that needs your attention... I'm glad they limited comsquads, because that was silly: command squads without a commander. People call the Guard a very powerful army. If we'll abuse some tactics we'll have to deal with consiquences: 'Brace yorselves folks, cheese-mongers incoming!' Even now our grunts cost too much money for what they can do imagine what will happen if they start doing more than were supposed to. major higgins
Yesterda I had great time in a large battle against an horde of Leman Russes, my friend play 15 of them. It was like to be at Cambrai, a real armored assault to my line wich Kriegsmen held and then counterstrike with grenadiers, Hades Breaching Dril, and Scions. In the end we held our 3 objectives and conquered 2 on three of his. Gen.Steiner
Good lord! A full armoured company and then some - sounds like he could have shaved 5-6 tanks and replaced them with infantry to assist in taking those objectives, but well done to the Krieg! Solid units and of course putting plenty of boots on the table will go a long way in 8th. I was pleased with my Hellhounds too, and the mortar and heavy bolter HWSs were good What type of artillery did you bring? On paper, the old faithful Basilisk seems pretty decent this edition from a cost:damage output perspective. They are cheaper than a chimera and can fire without LOS therefore you can hide them to compensate for their construction paper. As far as I can see, they take no penalty to hit when firing without LOS. Two Basilisks plus a Master of Ordinance to buff them a little is cheaper than a lone Russ command tank with sponsons ... I hear tell that Manticores are good too. I have resisted taking them since they were first introduced because I really hate thse units that are made better than they should be just to sell models. I hate having to buy new stuff that I would otherwise not use just to have a chance at winning. But the Leman Russ just can't dish out enough damage. If I can get away with Basilisks and no Manticore I'd be a happy camper. major higgins
Basilisk, Lascannon, but the very best were Hades Drill (which killed two LR on its own) and its attached veterans which destroyed another one with Meltas and in melee (The rest of the game). Than as I said Basilisk (I run three of them with MoO) and Lascannon (both Heavy Weapon, or onto my Annihilators) Chaplain Gunzhard 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/334370-8th-ed-tactics-thread/page/9/#findComment-4808036 Share on other sites
