The Squad

I wasn't sure that the metal left pauldron would cause the scheme to look too blase, but I think the yellow eagle gives it enough color to keep it interesting looking. So I'll do more of that on follow up squads.

There have been some absolutely beautiful models, so I hope my 4th Company Dark Hunters are worthy. My 1st Intercessor Squad lead by Sergeant Severus.

Some lovely stuff in here.

Here's my first Primaris, decided to try the Lieutenant first as its my favourite model in the set. The photos have made the blue look a lot lighter than it is in real life, photography is really not my strong point.

He's painted up in Ultramarines 2nd Company colours to go with the rest of my Ultras army.

@Straight: One word: Fantastic!

Very nice tones on the skin. How did you do your flesh?

Cheers Honda.

For faces I do as follows:

White undercoat.

I then make a wash using 60:40 Cadian Flesh Tone : Lahmian Medium and apply all over.

Thin Reikland Fleshade with Lahmian Medium (about 60:40 again but depends on how deep you want shadows) and apply all over

Then paint in the eyes and teeth etc - that way if you make any mistakes you can correct with next step.

Reapply Cadian Fleshtone to raised areas (you don't need to add Lahmian Medium to this bit but obvioulsy you'll want to thin it.

Then highlight mixing Cadian Fleshtone with Kislev Flesh (I use the Citadel Air version of Kislev Flesh for this as it's already nice and thin)

Final highlight of Kislev Flesh on most prominent areas.

Then the bit that finishes it all off.

Very thin mix of Druchii Violet + Lahmian Medium (like almost homeopathically thin, lol) and apply to this to bottom eyelids to create deeper shade. GW uses blue for this but I prefer purple. Just keep applying until you're happy - better to be too thin than too thick.

Then do the same with Carroburg Crimson + Lahmian Medium and apply to lips, nose, cheeks and any other dark shade areas. Again keep it stupidly thin but just keep reapplying until you're happy with it.

For scars or around service studs I do the Druchii Violet bit first and then repeat with Carroburg Crimson bit.

I find this method is much easier than building up form a dark base coat, you're shading down a light colour with washes and glazes and it keeps all the details of the face - some of the new sculpts have crazy amounts of detail!! You can't see from the photo but the model has crow's feet around his eyes sculpted...
