1st is free; you simply replace one piece of wargear that you bought normally for the relic.  Then you can use the relic stratagem to buy more if you want.

For example, in my Iron Hands army, I buy a storm shield for my captain.  I then replace it for free with the Shield Eternal.  If I also wanted to give another character the Axe of Medusa to replace their power axe, I have to pay 1 CP.

Word Bearers Legion traits are up on Warhammer Community. We know what they are now, but there were a few extra points made that might be of interest.

https://www.warhammer-community.com/2017/08/05/legion-focus-word-bearers-aug-5gw-homepage-post-2/

- Cultists are getting a points drop.

- Rules for Daemon Troops were included for summoning purposes (NOT part of the army list as first thought, unfortunately). However...

- All Daemons (except Brimstone Horrors which cost more) have seen a points decrease.

*Alpha Legion are tomorrow...

@Juggernut - It is 1st one free, 2nd 1CP, 3rd 3CPs.

Sorry Iron Father Ferrum, you got there first.

There are a few options that are missing in the codex that appear in the index: why is that? Does that mean I can’t use these models in my army anymore?

While the indexes are designed to cover a long history of miniatures, the codexes are designed to give you rules for the current Warhammer 40,000 range. There are a few options in the indexes for some Characters and vehicles that are no longer represented in the Citadel range – certain Dreadnought weapons that don’t come in the box, or some characters on bikes, for example.

Don’t worry though, you can still use all of these in your games if you have these older models. In these instances, use the datasheet from the index, and the most recent points published for that model and its weapons (currently, also in the index).

They still gain all the army wide-bonuses for things like Chapter Tactics and can use Space Marines Stratagems and the like, so such venerable heroes still fit right in with the rest of your army.

I'm sorry did i just see the Chaos Lord and Chaos Sorcerer can no longer take a bike or steed?!?! :censored:!!? What the he'll are we all going to do with these models now?!

They are no longer in the Codex. What you do instead is use the Index profiles for these units - see my first quote as DraneceusRex was kind enough to find the quote directly from GW on the previous page.

They still gain the Legion Traits etc., they were just cut from the main Codex as there is no longer an official model.

Yeeeeeessss Axe of Blind Fury + Burning Talisman juggerlord!

Not quite, unfortunately, it specifically says the 2nd (and/or 3rd) Relic has to be given to a different Character...

I'm gonna be *that* salty Chaos player.. Really not happy that GW still hasn't given CSM Drop Pods..

But that's about where the line ends. I am very excited to pick up this codex and play my World Eaters and Word Bearers and I'm seriously fighting the urge to start Thousand Sons or Death Guard.

I guess we always have the Dreadclaw via FW anyway.

Is there any penalty to taken Daemon units in my Word Bearers list other than the lesser Daemons?

Hey guys,

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet but Miniwargaming is doing their own review of the new Chaos codex, and one of the first things they go through is all of the point reductions in the book. There are a lot of them. :biggrin.:

I can't see any tournaments allowing that without an official FAQ. Hopefully GW will release one quickly because my Slaanesh Lord and Sorcerer have just lost their steeds :verymad:

Wow bale flamer is reduced to 30 points oh thank god.

Do Possessed still have to roll the number of attacks randomly each time???? Likewise with obliterators how they have to roll the strength and ap each time they shoot?????

Possessed attacks are the same they were in the index.. D3

Oblits are the same cost and seems to be the same way you roll as the index and range but it is assault 4 now.  The limited range is the killer but they might be doable.

The defiler might be a real thing that you see in chaos lists now.  With the points reduced to 152 and the reaper now 15 you can add a havoc launcher for a  187 point model.

The warpsmith with a 45 base cost plus axe for 5, Melta 17, flamer 9 comes in at a total of 76 is doable now.

Limited range isn't that bad, given the new rules for deep strike.  And with 4 shots they are, at worst, armed with reaper autocannons, which isn't that bad for their price.  And they're a potential target for the slaaneshi 'shoot twice' stratagem, and the black legion's re-roll ones.  I wish there was an oblit stratagem that let you pick their stats instead of rolling, but as it is I could see trying them at some point.

Well there is one that would work well for them.  Vets of the long war +1 on the wound rolls for only 1 CP.

Things appear to be looking good for Thousand Sons here since Codex replaces Index and our Army list rules say "use the following Heretic Astartes Datasheets" instead of being more specific. We get cheaper Soulreapers, possibly a cheaper Aspiring Sorcerer, and 4 more Psychic Powers (Since we use Dark Hereticus and it's been changed). Then there are cheaper Daemon Engines and all sorts of other price adjustments.

Can't use any of the new Warlord Traits or Stratagems, but that's OK. All those extra powers will do for now.

Or Alpha Legion Slaanesh Oblits that use Forward Operatives to pop up first turn at pointblank range and unload twice. Sure, that's 3 command points, but ouch.
