Hello!

I've decided to add to my ever growing list of armies to start! :laugh.: I had originally wanted to do a Flesh Tearers army sometime ago, but I was waylaid by various other projects and real life. I was sorting out my bedroom earlier and rediscovered my Shield of Baal box set I'd bought. When I got it, I also bought the new Sanguinary Priest, a box of Blood Angel tactical Marines (half of whom are partly painted as a Blue armoured Successor, the Sons of Cruor ). I also got a never painted, metal Gabriel Seth model. I got a Deredeo Dreadnought that was for a XIII Legion project that I lost interest in, as well as a metal (never painted) Techmarine with harness. I have a few other bits and bobs too that I might be able to add into this. This blog will also resurrect my Flesh Tearers Space hulk models project too. I don't have any progress yet, short of finding the box:

med_gallery_51296_10034_135000.jpg.

I'll be reading Index: Imperium 1 to see what options I should give the Tactical squad etc and take it from there. I wouldn't normally start a topic without at least something to show, but I could do with some advice. I've spent the last few days looking high and low for a recipe for the shade of Flesh Tearer I want. The trouble is, whilst there are a lot of links via google which can be previewed, clicking the link results in telling me the picture was hosted by Photobucket and thereby unusable :sad.: I'm sure that Morticon had exactly the right shade I wanted, a dark red, some might call it a claret. Any advice on achieving such a shade would be most welcome.

I just need to order copious amounts of shoulder pads to make this a lot easier! :laugh.:

Thanks for looking and for any advice you can give :smile.:

Np :) Sadly I can't offer more than "look here..." comments. Don't know if you recall seeing my Blood Angels at WHW but they are bright red :)

Yes I did :) and I loved them. Its a pity I wasn't able to have been able to come over the night before and thereby be at WHW earlier.

This picture is closer to what I was thinking, but perhaps darker than that: Gabriel Seth. It's weird as I hadn't noticed it on my last search.

As I've havent played Blood Angels since Rogue Trader (when all Marines had the same rules), things like the Death Company are completely new to me in terms of playing them. The list above includes what I can field at this time in models, shot of two Rhinos (that I could use my Sisters Rhinos for until I can afford ones specifically for this army). If anyone can give me a heads up on how this list is, in terms of effectiveness, but more importantly, fluffiness. I'm more of a fluff player than I am competitive. A good balance between the two would be great:)

Forgot to post, but a large portion of the models is from the Shield of Baal box set, so what ever can be made from that are options I have :)

I'm going to get around to building a few models in the next day or so. Nurgles has..."blessed" me with a nasty cold, so runny nose, voice that sounds like Orson Welles as Unicron atm

always cool to see another FT.

Feel free to have a look though my tearers on imgur, linked in sig, happy to answer any questions. If you go back far enough i started with FT using the GW scheme but have since moved to layered highlights over the years as I've developed my painting.

I'd warn you off the shoulder guards as they are noticeably smaller than the current gen marine shoulders (they were sculpted by in 3rd I believe) I have them on my first tactical squad (gw paint scheme, not my current style) https://imgur.com/a/1yNGc However I much prefer home printed transfers now (easier than It sounds) like have on the redemptor https://imgur.com/gallery/BggVA or here on the chaplain https://imgur.com/gallery/vjX9D

I'll take a look :)

I think I have a general idea of the shade of red I want. A darker red. That being said, I'm going to paint the Imperial Space Marine in the Flesh Tearers original colours:

c8af6df54cc5aba93254111bd8c89da4--colour

Just with the Icon in the newer version (i.e. white and red). Also thinking of painting the Saltires of the Death Company and Dread in yellow too, but not 100% certain at the moment.

Edif: just used the link. It doesn't want to load the pictures. Says it's encountered a problem :(

Love the old school colour scheme!

If you're still looking for a painting recipe, I did: Mephiston red base, over-brush with Wazdakka Red, heavy wash of carroburg crimson, highlight of evil sunz scarlet. It's a bit of an effort but produces a nice result!

Nassir Amit

Flesh Tearers Astorath conversio

However future models I'll probably paint using the GW scheme on the paint app.

Looking forward to seeing more Fleshies!

I just got 40 of those as well. When I got them I was amazed at how small they were. Have you tried any of the 3D printed ones? I have heard good things about those shoulder guards. Though the printed decals look really good too.

I've always used the GW ones both in metal and resin and they've always seemed fine to me once they're on the table top.

tried to order some of the 3d printed ones recently from shapways but the order was canceled as GW had asked them to take down the listings.

I don't think the GW ones look bad, and certainly from table top distance they look great, but the resin edges are not smooth and edge highlights wont be as crisp which irks me :tongue.:

Saw a recent post where a guy was cutting the icon out of the gw ones and adding it to the primaris marines in the DM box with good results. ill see if I can find a link

Dang that is a lot of work. Might be easier just casting your own pads at that point. I am pretty lazy. I'll just switch to Blood Angels. There isn't really anything other than the amazing paint job to build flesh tearers anymore for anyway. Sad day.

The plastic pads from the Deathwatch kit are good, but hard to collect on an army wide scale :biggrin.:

Flesh Tearers look sick, have really cool fluff and conversion opportunities, and... Seth!

The shade I'm after is the one in the video above :) I'm of the mind to not have an Primaris in my army, but who knows in the future? I had been told the shoulder guards are getting on a bit, but it'd save me far more hassle than trying to paint them on. I've had a go at printing decals for other Chapters and whilst they look okay, again, it's more convenience sake.

Any opinions on my list? I kept the DC basic for now, but want to add a Chaplain and a few other things to the list eventually.

I just use home printer transfers now, super easy but does take a little extra time at the end of the paint process. I talked about it in a reddit post ill paste that below encase anyone is interested.

Flesh tearers logo sheet http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2008/09/flesh-tearers-logo-sheet.html transfer paper (uk amazon) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Inkjet-Water-Slide-Decal-Transfer/dp/B00835TYU6/ref=sr_1_1?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1503949357&sr=1-1&keywords=TPW+A4+Inkjet+Water+Slide+Decal+Paper+Craft+Transfer+x+20pcs+White+by+AMZ Find or make your icons and print them on transfer paper like the one above. (i used paper with a white base, you can also get clear transfer paper depending on your icon needs) once its dry, give it a coat of spray-on gloss varnish. (this water proofs the ink) and let it dry. At this stage just treat them as regular transfers. once on the model and dry i used 2 thin coats of vallejo matt varnish to remove the gloss shine before i painted the edges of the transfers into the model.

list looks like a good start, power swords are great for us now the new codex is in effect. I have a squad of scout snipers that I run for fun some times, just don't expect them to kill much they are better at messing with your opponents mind that actually killing stuff.
