thewarriorhunter
Venerable Dreadnought legs are done. Next I'm going to work on figuring out how I want to attach the armor plates. I'm going to try and armor both the 'shins' and the 'thighs'. thewarriorhunter
Completed Vow 3 for DoS with a primed hellbaster squad. I also got some work in on my dread. I didn't like the leg so I reposed it and am waiting on glue to dry so I can get back to armor fitting on it. duz_, Dracos and Race Bannon 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/339466-deployment-of-the-spectral-sicarii-homebrew-rg/page/29/#findComment-5265597 Share on other sites
thewarriorhunter
I was trying to fit the armor and it wasn't working because of the left leg's posing. The joint was hyper-extended and it didn't work right, and after staring it didn't look right. I redid that leg and am much happier. I also got to trash a large part of the base to make the feet positioning work and I think overall it's going to look really good. Armor plates are magnetized and mounted. I've got one magnet on each right now but I'm thinking of adding a second to keep the plates from rotating. Probably not necessary which mean's I'm most likely going to do it. I will work on greenstuff tubes next. I think I'm going to try and run them behind the model since they would have more protection from enemy fire there as opposed to the original location of just filling up space between the legs. MajorNese
Looks great, a lot more realistic than the usual "squat" boxnoughts. It always felt wrong thinking how they actually move with those short legs... thewarriorhunter
Right? I figure this guy got the 'walking' upgraded legs as opposed to the 'waddle' legs that is standard issue. Looking at the regular legs it seems like it could only shuffle over flat ground. This guy could actually move with some speed if needed and step over obstacles without much effort. Brother Quixote
Really like your work on the venerable dread, looking forward to seeing it painted up. Do you have a suitable storage/transport in mind for it? I'd be paranoid of the legs snapping off. thewarriorhunter
For storage I've chosen to go with KR cases. I got a great deal on a KR 2 bag and like the how modular the system is. I also ride a motorcycle so I can wear the backpack to games if I want or the cases fit into my panniers very snuggly so there's no bouncing around. Venerable is ready for priming! I worked with green stuff for the first time and got to use my roller for the cables. I also added the extra magnets to the panels won't rotate around now. Vow 1 for DoS will have to wait a bit though. I ordered a pair of contemptor las cannons so I can run it as a mortis. I'm going to wait to complete my vow until I have those ready to go Dracos, MajorNese, Brother Quixote and 1 other 4 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/339466-deployment-of-the-spectral-sicarii-homebrew-rg/page/29/#findComment-5266390 Share on other sites

duz_
Race https://www.krmulticase.com/ Their naming and selection system sucks but similar to Battlefoam bit cheaper and softer foam TWH those cables rock! How'd you do that?? I attempted something similar awhile back and just went with a ovalish blob instead ... <_< Race Bannon 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/339466-deployment-of-the-spectral-sicarii-homebrew-rg/page/29/#findComment-5266612 Share on other sites
thewarriorhunter
The cables were made with a roller I bought from greenstuffworld a while back: http://www.greenstuffworld.com/en/roll-maker/69-roll-maker-tube-wire-machine.html?search_query=tentacle&results=2. This was the first time I've seriously used it. I learned that less pressure is better otherwise the GS grabbed the plates and I had to start over. Thanks for sharing the link duz_. And Race he's absolutely correct, their site is rough and the UI is not great, however it can be learned and does make sense once you spend a little time sifting through it. I think their biggest problem is that they have so many options it is easy to get overwhelmed. Their customer service is fantastic though, which helps to make up for the site. When I ordered I mocked up my cases and trays in Excel to make sure I wasn't picking the wrong trays, then I emailed that to their CS and asked them to look it over. They confirmed I was good which was reassuring. They also had a couple suggestions for alternative load outs for the models I was trying to store. The foam is fantastic and their trays are great. I love that I can switch a few trays around and have a new army ready to go in a single tray. Their pick n pluck trays are good too. I'm using those for my larger vehicles. Shipping is rough but if you order enough you get free shipping. When I placed my first order I went in with another local guy so our order qualified for free shipping. duz_ and Race Bannon 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/339466-deployment-of-the-spectral-sicarii-homebrew-rg/page/29/#findComment-5266644 Share on other sites
thewarriorhunter
Decided I should finish painting my tactical squad. These are some of the first models I built before I realized I should leave the guns off. It's been a chore to paint the chest area but I'm getting there. Black on the bolt rifles and a few accents, a nuln oil wash and the eyes and these guys will be done. http://i.imgur.com/27j9ZfNh.jpg Race Bannon, duz_ and Brother Quixote 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/339466-deployment-of-the-spectral-sicarii-homebrew-rg/page/29/#findComment-5267100 Share on other sites
thewarriorhunter
Almost there. black and steel need to be highlighted and these models are done. It has been very frustrating painting around the attached weapons and has proven to me that painting in sub assemblies is the way to go for me. thewarriorhunter
Slight detour is shaping up but I'm looking forward to it. My FLGS is focusing on Kill Team right now and is planning on having an Arena Day at the end of the month. I offered to paint up the terrain for them so I could help out and start to contribute to the store. They happily said yes and I'm pretty stoked. It doesn't have to be a super neat paint job and this will give me a chance to play around with my airbrush and try a few things out. Last night I got it all of sprue, spurs and mold lines cleaned up and glued together. thewarriorhunter
Finished the tactical combat squad that I've been working on. 15 more to go for the Betrayal at Calth box. I'll hopefully be able to varnish them tomorrow and prime the arena terrain. duz_, Race Bannon and Brother Quixote 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/339466-deployment-of-the-spectral-sicarii-homebrew-rg/page/29/#findComment-5271500 Share on other sites

Dracos
They do. Love the scheme even (anything not Primaris just like “off” these days) on these guys. I’m looking for a static grass that blends with my color scheme. I’m lazy. :) thewarriorhunter 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/339466-deployment-of-the-spectral-sicarii-homebrew-rg/page/29/#findComment-5272136 Share on other sites

I’m looking for a static grass that blends with my color scheme. I’m lazy. I agree on non primaris looking 'off'. I want to get enough of these guys painted up so I can play the Calth box game and if I play larger games I can field these guys but I don't plan on buying any non-primaris marines again. Gale Force 9 has a pretty good range of static grass colors. I used one of theirs for my Raven Guard. thewarriorhunter
Got some priming done. Arena Terrain is primed and half of my Vow 1 for DoS is done. I'm waiting on my lascannons to arrive for my contemptor so I can get that primed to complete my first vow. thewarriorhunter
Rough work done on my Librarian conversion. I took the Gravis Captain from Dark Imperium and cut and sanded to reposition the arms. I added a drum magazine from a catphractii storm bolter for the gauntlet bolter and that will run with the pistol profile. When I have some time I'll greenstuff the cables into the hood to make it all work together. I don't think we'll ever see a Gravis librarian but it's the gravis looks close enough to the regular primaris librarian that I'm not worried about it. Dracos
I disagree on never seeing a Gravis Librarian. It might take sometime but I’d put money we will with two years. Love what your doing and would just use it as the Indomitus Armor relic. I might have just went with an Aggressor bolt gauntlet arm counts as the pistol they look damn similar though so thumbs up. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/339466-deployment-of-the-spectral-sicarii-homebrew-rg/page/29/#findComment-5273603 Share on other sites
thewarriorhunter
No Aggressor arms around here, but that's a kit on my 'to buy' list but Shadowspear just pushed it back. I think the drum mag works since I'm going for a 'pistol' and appreciate the compliments. I got some work done on the Arena terrain. I've been using a rattle can for the silver and it works really well but because of the gloss finish my paints don't cover as well. I'm not terribly worried since its store terrain but I do want it to look good. I'm going to clean up the golds on the tanks and do a steel dry brush and call them good. Doors have a couple washes of Nuln Oil on them so I can pick out some details, dry brush silver, and call them good as well. Dracos
Emperor I turn Sallie green with envy when I see your quality and productivity ;) Side note I have a jack load (10) Aggressor arms I won't be using because of my conversion (based off of St.Lazerus's). duz_
wow that terrain is impressive! :tu: Although maybe too impressive... you don't want your opponents feeling down because the terrain looks better than their army! (True story though... ^_^) thewarriorhunter and Brother Quixote 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/339466-deployment-of-the-spectral-sicarii-homebrew-rg/page/29/#findComment-5274011 Share on other sites
