One small question - did you mean to leave the grip of the captain's carbine unpainted? It sort of blends into his gauntlet and looks a little unfinished.

Good eye, and oops! I didn't even notice I missed that. I'll have to touch it up and thanks for letting me know.

I must be getting old because I've noticed that on the last couple models I've missed a couple details like that. I almost missed his purity seal as well but caught that.

I normally hesitate to point out stuff like that on other people's models, but I know that's the sort of thing that'd irritate me enormously if I missed it and I don't like to criticise other people's work.

So if we do a build event for Shirke-tember I'll probably put together and paint one or both of these models:

I guess it's time to add a smash captain and jump chaplain to my list. I may see about getting these bits onto primaris bodies so they don't look so small and if primaris versions ever come out then... already done!

I am thinking about my chaplain colors. I'm not sure if I want to go with black and given that my army isn't exactly Codex Compliant I'm ok with using a different color. I was actually thinking of going with a dark red, but then that throws off tech marines so... I've got a little time to figure it out.

Maybe a dark grey for the Chaplain or all bone-white, like the Deathwing but with the normal bluer tones on the shoulder pads and jump packs.

I got the metal old version of the chaplain which will be a Reclusiarch, so just one rank above my normal chaplains.

The Phobos Captain looks really great.

Bought some Micro Pens to give purity seals a shot. I like them, but it's a bit to stark. I may try writing before I do the wash and highlighting so that it's not so vibrant. If that doesn't work I think a brown ink might be worth a try.

I know it looks stark, but trust me, over time it will appear less stark. All my OG Raven Guard I used those pens on, and it doesnt appear that way at all. It's an optical illusion (unless of course you're going for an aged parchment look)

I'm messing around with weathering so the models pair to my bases better. Right leg was my first attempt but looked too much like Borderlands. Left leg is more subtle and (from feedback) more realistic and I'm much happier with it. Now to figure out how to do the steel.

I realized that with the weathering I was going to have to get decals on so that they weathered with the model when it was appropriate. I put a call out on reddit and found a designer to work with and have begun commissioning iconography for my army. I've got a campaign badge and my chapter icon done! (campaign badge is a secret for now).

It took me a while to settle on what I wanted but since I was having things designed I decided to use my original idea for a chapter symbol - my wife's flower:

I had tried to freehand it but it was too much for me to do an entire army. I was going to leave it as a badge of honor but now that I can have it printed I'd rather use it as the main symbol. My wife came up with the scheme and I love this flower she painted. She could care less about my 'nerd homage' but I like it, and it's different. So after some back and forth with the artist and them taking my terrible 3D Paint sketches I've got a symbol I'm very happy with, and one that I think is very unique:

Update on the Redemptor. I'm getting everything painted to my old standard and will have to hold there for decals. Once those are on I can work on the weathering so the decals blend in if I weather over them. I bought some new brushes on a friends recommendation and really like them. Rosemary and Co have a set of miniature painting brushes that I picked up. A variety of 10 brushes for ~$50 and I'm happy so far.

Legs are done and I've started on the sarcophagus details so I can get the front armor on to finish the torso.

I cant begin to describe how much I think good weathering improves a light colored scheme like the one you have. Like others have said, I'm looking forward to the finished product!

Completely agree. I think the legs show just how apparent that is. The weathered leg looks so much better than the non-weathered one.

In other new, a new campaign badge has been designed:

Given that Sicarii was inspired by ancient Jewish assassins who preferred knives as their tool of death I wanted a knife in my scheme somewhere. I'll use this as a small badge of honor and probably place it on the thigh or leg armor of my marines.

Got the armor glued onto my Redemptor and was disappointed to see a huge seam between the two pieces. I'm sure some of it was from paint getting in the way from priming. I scraped away what paint I could but it was still there so I broke out my putty. I love this stuff because it's thick but can be thinned with water and also cleaned up with water. You can also paint over it. I thought I'd share it in case it helps anyone with gap filling. I've never worked with liquid greenstuff but I imagine it's the same, just cheaper.

Sadly I forgot to take a before picture put here is the seam after I applied the thinned putty with a paint brush:

I let it sit for a minute and then take a damp q-tip and wipe off the excess putty:

Then paint over it and it looks better:

Since this is on the underside of the model I was fine with this level of 'fill'. If this seam were in a more visible area I would have continued to apply layers of the putty until it was as close to flush as I could get it without sanding. This is the product I use in case anyone wants to pick some up and try for themselves: https://www.amazon.com/DELUXE-MATERIALS-BD44-Perfect-Plastic/dp/B0076LAVFK/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=perfect+putty&qid=1569857265&sr=8-1

It really is. I squeeze a little out onto my wet pallet and work it there right next to my paint. I've applied it with sculpting tools when it's thick and paint brushes when it's thinned down, it's very versatile.

Finally have some progress worth posting. I got the torso on my redemptor 95% done, just need to paint the missiles... not sure what color. I may just go black but am also considering the armor color for a bit of pop.

Arms need work to finish up the base coat but I do like that I can put them in the model. It's at least playable and I plan on using it in my next game... whenever that is. I'll run it as a redemptor for a couple games and then probably proxy it as an invictor to see how I like that.

I'm also about ready to send off my order for decals so I can start applying those and then weather the model to finish up. I'm really looking forward to the weathering process and seeing how it breaks up the large flat panels and adds depth. The more I look at the one weathered leg the more I can't wait to see the whole model done up.
