I'm pretty happy about the level of support standard marines seem to be getting. Part of me worried this Codex would be too Primaris focused but from what I've seen, not so. I'm not a Primaris hater at all, I just can't make them work with my approach to Blood Angels and find myself preferring traditional stuff.
Why would you be worried? If you use the vanilla book as a reference you can see that Primaris don’t get much love with regards to flexibility, stratagems or wargear. Mini marines are the most flexible and easiest to make work in that book and I’d assume the same for us in 11 days.

I'm actually sad that GW is too scared to give Primaris more attention. It's not like I want to see regular Marines disappear anytime soon but right now it feels like playing a Primaris army only serves in gimping yourself. Most of the awesome things are for non-Primaris units. ^^

I agree to an extent. But Primaris offer something different not necessarily less. The -1ap and 30" range on their bolters does not fit well if you want a themed Blood Angels force though. Perhaps we'll get the option to equip our intercessors with a bolt pistol and chainsword. Would be pretty damned awesome if you ask me. Perhaps...

And the bonus on wounding benefits primaris units (which come with more attacks base) more than most stock regular marine units.

But I really like that existing marines get more.

I'm thinking I may run primaris as planned but use regular marines in most of the veteran roles, seems like it'd be very fluffy

Imagine a couple of large intercessor units, supported by hellblasters, a unit of sniper scouts to camp near the back and glorious baalites heroes on wings of fiery retribution Edited by Blindhamster

Hmm the image of a flying Librarian Dreadnaught leading a Sanguinary Guard Squad is so darn cool.  Imagine a Blood Angel Dreadnaught levitating to assault a flyer?  Blood Angels have flying Dreadnaught Psykers that will wound almost anything on a 2+ ?  That dread can hide amongst a squad too.

All I can think of is some Gundam where it cuts through a space station or something and comes out the otherside, the camera backs out to long view, and the space station blinks and then explodes.  Hilarious.

I was thinking along the same lines. Using the smaller marines for more elite units and the Intercessors and other Primaris to fill up the new blood. Also thinking about using the Reavers as scout models as all the remaining scouts will most likely be Primaris. I still need to read the Devastation of Baal though and try and figure out what remains of our legion.

I've been eying painting up the helmets on my Tac marines in gold and calling them Sternguard. Our tactical kit is already pretty ornate so it doesn't seem like anybody would really notice and you guys are right- any surviving standard marines would definitely deserve veteran status.

A unit of 6 Inceptors with Assault Bolters seems like an awesome unit for dealing with chaff units. Drop them in, unleash the business. If they get stuck in combat or need to go somewhere else, you use Upon Wings of Fire to pull them out and redeploy them. Rinse and repeat.

Upon Wings of Fire is by far my favorite Strat in the game right now. It lets you redeploy key units where you need them. You can do this with a Priest, Captain, Lieutenant, etc. It's a such a flexible ability and is game breaking if you ask me. That will be so much fun to use.

Intercessors with Assault Bolters and Reivers work really well with The Red Thirst now too. I wasn't crazy about Primaris ruleswise before. With 2 attacks and our Chapter tactic I think they'll be an excellent addition to the army. So excited to see more!

Given the fluff that's come up recently I'd be kind of surprised if the primaris stuff have red thirst. I believe someone stated that "very few primaris have experienced the red thirst"

Well, they preview article uses Reivers as an example of a unit that will really benefit from The Red Thirst so I feel pretty confident the other Primaris stuff will get it too.

Basically, most people's takaway from the fluff is that the new guys haven't experienced The Thirst... yet. Remember, back during the crusade it was much rarer than it is in 40k for the thirst to manifest.

So far I think my "to buy list" is going to include 2-3 Reiver Squads, an aggressor squad and then all the fancy primaris marine goodies aka dolling up the squads from DI as well as adding some hell blaster mans with cannons. We'll see what goes down though. I feel like I asked for the wrong things for Christmas xD xD xD

You want to buy new models for a Faction after good, fluffy, creative, and interesting rules are released for them?

Shocker!
