A chainsword is great for what it costs.

Yup.

And who knows, guys.....it may have been a smart decision on the part of GW on account of it being even better than the PW with our new bonuses !!

Time will tell.

Do you know things?

It feels like you know things :biggrin.:

Just building the positive hype ^_^ <3

I'm excited.   2 weeks to go.

If the DC stuff rumors are correct, the a 15 strong JP unit with only chainswords with a cheap old sang priest riding shotgun suddenly becomes the most bananas assault unit in the game

Exactly why i'd place money on it not happening :(

Not as a basic rule anyway -  Relic maybe? Warlord trait? More likely a strat, no?

Trying to play catch up. Once I can size up the new chainsword to older ones I may try a switch. Adding some green stuff, and maybe one or two changes to the hand/arm could do wonders on our new upgrade pack.

Part of me feels like Intercessors are going to be our flexible tacticals that are just good enough to assault if needed, as opposed to legacy marines. So those of us that ran tacticals kitted for melee, this could be a unit we should look at. Even if they have to foot slog it.

I'm glad to see that Hellblasters and aggressors are blue helmet lads. Not sure how I feel about yellow on the reivers though.

I'm feeling more confident about a majority Primaris BA army, and that's probably what we are going to need as a focus in order to stay competitive, time will tell.

I agree on the berserker DC not happening.

Xenith seems to have called it in regards to DA, SW, and BA being the Imperium's Xenos equivalents.

I'm curious to see how the new packs will be distributed. You can bet your last quarter there will be a price hike for the BA special boxes.

Curious to see if we get actual new units, and not just new to us per say.

Lots to look forward to over the coming weeks.

Think Astorath will get any re-working?

He seems...ok. His Mass of Doom seems like a neat party trick since it’s one use only. Make it reusable (and 3+ or something) and we’re talking. Or make it army-wide instead of 6” bubble. <shrug>

I agree fights twice on a unit with jump pack mobility could be a bit much. Will be interesting to see if it proves true.

The other implication of this would be that it applies to other “black rage” units too, this might actually make the death company dread worth taking. In addition, if Lemartes gets this he becomes and absolute beatstick...

I'd prefer a rule where our jump infantry lock enemy units in combat. Then you'll also have the chance to fire specialist pistols in the coming cc phase.

A thousand times, this!! Id settle for little to no combat buff if this was the case.

Would legit change the game.

I had a thought since mortal wounds are all the rage. What about "when a jump packing infantry charges successfully all enemy units within 3" roll a d6 on a x they take a mortal wound." This is kind of a 2nd attack and shows how these jump packs are coming in hot and smashing the earth around them. Edited by Caldersson

I was thinking something like “6’s To Wound in combat are MW.” Or “on a roll of a 6 To Wound in combat, roll a separate D6 and on a 4+/5+/6+ That also scores a MW.”

One rule could be too powerful (in the age of RG-spam?), the other is clunky and involves even more dice rolling.

I was mulling this over too. I think it would be sweet and give some legs to assault. Biggest issue I have is not doing any damage. I've been running 7 Jump DC w/ 2 Hammers and Lemmy since 8th dropped. They continue to do next to nothing for me. I stubbornly refuse to swap them out. Hoping our Dex gives them some love.

Good chance we find out our army special rule on Warhammer Community today. Fingers crossed!

A few thoughts on the topics above and earlier in the thread...

Mortal Wounds Spam

Considering Mars Ad Mech have a stratagem for shooting that lets them cause an additional mortal wound on each 6 to wound, which can be combined with things like Robots with 18 shots each and units of Electropriests that generate more hits on a 6 to hit...

A stratagem of something similar is really believable and likely to happen. Probably be tied to DC style units though.

"New" Units

Obviously the full list is yet to be revealed, but I can't see there being much from the marine codex that we won't get access too. If anything it's more money for GW.

Unsure what we could have in the way of the "Nemesis Dreaknight Grand Master" that GK got as a "New" unit without a model... Maybe we'll get the Reclusiarch back?

Making Combat Meta Relevant

DEldar Wyches have a "No escape" rule where you and the opponent roll off and they can only fall back if they win... Doesn't feel very BA though. As I've suggested before maybe falling back gives us:

  • an extra chance to attack
  • cause mortal wounds
  • pursue them and re-engage

I think our “Nemesis Dreadknight Grandmaster” equivalent could be the (spoilers from Devastation of Baal)
Exalted Herald of Sanguinius, aka the last surviving Sanguinary Guard
. No model change, just a new unit entry/stat line.

Jupp, jump infantry with «fight twice» would be «that guy’s unit», unless the price is right. And getting the price right would be hard.

Playing a strong unit doesn't make you "that guy". Being a dick makes you "that guy".

IMHO, “that guy” seems to break the game by finding combos and loopholes that are other unexpected and unintentional. In video game turns, he seems to glitch his way to victory.

Someone who takes a mean, mean list is not so much “that guy” if he sets the right expectations, explains his army/rules in a fair manner ahead of time, and is generally out for fun.

It’s a fine line and subjective of course, but having really good elements to an army does not automatically make that army OP or a player who chooses it “that guy.”

“That guy” could also be someone who habitually chases the best OP flavor of the day. But I digress

Upon Wings of Fire is the greatest thing to happen to Jump Infantry since the Chainsword.  Also it's tied for "Best Name for a Unit Ability Ever" with FIX BAYONETS!  :D

Also, Librarian Dreadnought going 18" a turn is squishy good, especially with re-rolled Charges.

Finally, general add 1 to Wound in melee is brilliant, as it works in the first combat round regardless of charger/chargee.  So even if your Terminators (etc.) can't assault out of Reserve due to bad rolls, they're still a scary prospect to counter-charge (especially with careful combat activation and use of the counter-assault Strategem).
