Hey all.

So with the release of the new Blood Angels Codex i was looking for something to base a new army on (I already have Lamenters, but they are Primaris only). I was tempted by vanilla Blood Angels, but after reading Devastation of Baal the Knights of Blood really started looking cool. Despite being wiped out, they still go out like any good Son of Sanguinius (Punching Khorne Daemons to death).

They are a lot like the Flesh Tearers except they have embraced the Red Thirst and even have some control over the Black Rage which they do by going all in on their vampric tendencies. They prefer to attack the enemy up close with chainswords, blades instead of at long range. But it is their hidden secret that makes them appeal the most to me. Spoilers for Devastation of Baal:

Turns out that by eating normal humans and draining their blood the curse has taken a dark turn. While they are able to temporarily sate the rage and the thirst, they have instead become physically changed. When their chapter master removes his helmet Gabriel Seth is witness to their true curse. Their faces have become much like a vampire with distorted features, sharp fangs that force the mouth into a kind of grin. Their eyes have turned yellow and their skin is red. When the Knights of Blood Chapter Master Sentor Jool confronts the Bloodthirster Ka'bandha he states that looking at the Bloodthirsters face its almost like a dark mirror to his own.

The Knights of Blood never remove their helmets while around allied forces as they fear discovery would result in their extermination. Still, they rarely fight with other Imperial forces as during battle the Knights become so enraged that they can barely recognise friend from foe.

I've finished a 5 man tactical squad as a test for the scheme:

I've got a big Death Company squad next to paint as well as my conversion for the Knights of Blood Chapter Master Sentor Jool (Without his helmet).

I've long been a fan of the KoB, and yours do the chapter proud. Are you really freehanding the chapter symbol!? :ohmy.:

I particularly like the one holding the knife; both the pose and the paint are great.

Really? Oh well, I love their looks but I certainly won't play them if that's what the lore says about the chapter...

Yeah, I did freehand the symbol.

Love them! how big is your proposed army?

Cheers. I'm building up to 2k for a start.

well he is absolutely terrifying lol

love it... though i didnt imagine them being QUITE so bestial yet, for some reason I still imagined an astartes appearance for the most part, just red skin and yellow eyes, whereas your model would fit how I imagined the beasts of the tower perfectly!

The bestial appearance is how I imagined them after reading their description in Devastation of Ball.

Here is the quote:

With deliberate, stiff movements, he reached up and unclasped his helm.

'We cannot go back,' said the lord of the Knights of Blood.

'I see,' said Seth. And he did.

Jool's face was contorted beyond any generous definition if humanity. His muscles strained under skin turned a terrible shade of red. His eyes were yellow. Sharp elongated teeth crowded his mouth, forcing his lips back so they were painfully stretched.

'The rage has us. It punishes us. My Chapter is finished.'

'When did this happen?'

'Years ago. It began like it is with you, a rise in the thirst, a growing number of brothers falling into the Black Rage. In our desperation we let ourselves give into the thirst. For a while it helped, by the blood of the innocent we controlled ourselves. It did not last. Soon, these changes set in. We thought blood would save us. It damned us.

Look upon me, Seth. There are creatures like me imprisoned in the Tower of Amareo on Baal. If our true nature were known, we would be exterminated. Only blood keeps the Black Rage in check now. Only blood. This is why we fight alone. I would fight with you because you, of all our brother chapters, would understand.'

Jool looked out over the battle. Most of his warriors had broken from the fort, and fought outside its walls.

'The wrath of the beast provokes the thirst. The daemons of Khorne covet our kind. They see our Rage as the same as theirs. They are wrong. Ours remains a holy fury. No doubt this new beast wishes to subvert our might to its own end and deliver us as slaves to its bloody god. It shall not be so!'

He threw down his helmet, and drew his sword.

'Go now, Gabriel Seth. Take what remains of your warriors. Remember us. Strive so that what happened to our Chapter does not happen to yours. We sacrifice ourselves in penitence. It is our due. We shall show the Neverborn that we may rage as they do, we shall never fall into their ways. For we are noble, we are pure,.we are the sons of...'

The daemon screamed again. A fresh wave of anger and desire to slay threatened to undo Seth's resolve. Jool roared.

'Leave!' said Jool, his voice losing its humanity, becoming harsh and animalistic. 'Take the relic back to Baal. Aid... Aid Dante. We will cover your retreat.'

He's a bit more gribbly than I was expecting, too. Like, what happened to his nose? Did it fall off? How does he smell? ("Terrible.")He looks great, though I find myself wishing that the red of his skin was more different from the red of his armor.

The red is brighter than the armour, but the picture doesn't make it that obvious. And the nose is just because I wanted him to look more like a daemon. Edited by RaEndymion

Cool to see some more of these guys around, I think they're one of the most interesting BA Successors.

Woah!!... put that helmet back on sir before the Inquisition sees you:jawdrop: Great work on the head. Horrifying indeed.

They're already excommunicated, what else are the ][ going to do?
