Oooh, this has a lot of promise. Looking forward to seeing your progress. I always thought the lion's head looked like Charles Dance (the actor who played Tywin Lanester on Game of Thrones). Which by the way is perfect for a grizzled knight.

I'd always thought he looked like what would happen if you put Liam Cunningham's facial hair as Davos Seaworth on Charles Dance's face. I'm really not looking forward to doing the cape. Sculpting fabric is frustrating. I may have to ditch it and do something like get a drink can and cut and shape a cape from that and then put a thin layer of green stuff over that instead.

Test fit of the cape. This phase 1 of doing the cape. Sanded most of the obvious lumps down first and will be building up the folds and blending the joints with the plastic on the underside where needed next.

I have done this! The 50/50 miliput/GS mix is perfect for this. You slap it on there, and usa a wet brush to smooth out all the wrinkles...much easier than sanding afterward, but its an option l, if you dont get everything smooth initially.

The trick to GS Capes is to let it sit for like 45 minutes. Then roll it out, and cut to shape. Should be not very sticky any more, and if youre gentle, you wont put fingerprints in it. Then just attach it and use some sticky tack to keep it in place where you know it will droop....or just find a way to angle the model so that the flow of the cape is going with gravity as it cures. Hope that helps.

This will definitely help for when I pluck up the courage to do a full cape from scratch. Luckily this was just gap filling so the plastic of the existing cape kept the putty in place.

Cape now attached to model, but may still do a bit more sanding down. Added some purity seals for good measure.

And now to ask for some opinions. The first ever iteration of this model had a lion pelt on top of its cape (see below). The model was in Cataphractii Armorur so it didn't have the vents to worry about covering. I'm tempted to alter this and do the same, but it would mean covering the vents which I've always viewed as a no-no for Indomitus. That was until new Grimnar was released who conveniently has his wolf pelt covering his vents! So now I can't decide whether leave him as is or pay tribute to his first iteration and add a lion pelt which would cover the vents. Thoughts?

I suppose there is also the option to explain away with a bit of lore on how his suit is custom built due to being larger than a normal Astartes and is frankensteined from available Indomitus and Cataphractii parts and say it doesn't have vents.

Leave his as is, I think you have just the right amount of "cool" in that area.

Love it, btw, great conversion.

Ah no a 50/50 split

Thanks for the input all. After looking at the model I think I'm going to try and get the best of both worlds. By that I mean take the cape off, trim back where the fur comes over the shoulder so there's enough room for the pelt's head and sculpt on paws similar to Lion El'Jonsons cape. The pelt will only be over the one shoulder and leaves the vents open. If it doesn't look right then I'll just reinstate everything as it currently is and stick with that.

Wish me luck.

So I spent so long looking at this model that my partner actually asked if I was alright

First attempt at my plan. I feel like I need to extend the limbs for the paws further up the sides of the pelt and make look they gradually "wrap under" the pelt towards the top sides if that makes sense to anyone.

I managed to cheat a bit and make blue stuff molds of the paws and tail from El'Jonson's cape and then a blue stuff mold of the fur texture from the plastic part of the cape to try and better blend the green stuff. I unfortunately got impatient whilst sculpting and started trying to do more whilst the first bits were still malleable and flattened some of the initial detail. Managed to rescue it to a decent degree and then waited before carrying on.

I will stop tinkering with this model at some point. The paws and limbs on the pelt have been extended to the top with an attempt to make them look like they're folding under. I also found some bits from a Lions of Chrace kit that had little lion icons on it so made a cast of those and used them as heraldic icons on the tilt shield and gauntlet shields.

I think it lookz great. Once you prime an paint it, you wont be able to see any imperfections, that you as the creator may notice. Especially if you paont on a texture. I do it all the time, "got a smooth area that isnt smooth enough?" "Well, just paint some scales, or small fur lines on it, and it breaks it all up, and noone is the wiser." If your mindful about how you paint it, you can hide all manner of "sins." All that being said, i think youve done an outstanding job here

Typo

Base is done. Just deciding on a few finishing touches now. Also trying some decoration on the cape which just needs some shading to match the rest of the the colours.

Absolutely outstanding!

I love the scheme, the sculpting skills and well, everything about this bloke!

What’s coming next?

@The Pounder Much appreciated. I'm hoping one day my sculpting skills will get to the same level as Anpharius on Insta.

I do have a rough to-do list somewhere on a previous page but really I need to finish off my Proxy Headtakers. I was going to get the Deathwatch shoulder icons from PopGoesTheMonkey to use as heraldic symbols on their shoulders, but with Shapeways going into administration last year they no longer have a printing facility in Europe so the shipping costs for the shoulder icons now exceed the price of the shoulder icons themselves. I may try sculpting but I'm not great at things that small yet. I may skip them for now and work on an update to my proxy Ragnar.

That cloak is awesome. How long did it take you?

@Boc Thanks. A few days I think, had to wait a while for the gap filling on the original cloak to cure and then the pelt took a couple more, especially because I got impatient and ruined the fur texture on it.

Having a short pause on hobbying. Our 16 month old bypassed the fire guard on our log burner in a way that would make Alpharius and Corax proud and got 2nd degree burns all over both his hands, so no free time whilst we try to keep him occupied and prevent him taking his bandages off

Hope your little one recovers well, that sounds a challenge!

Anpharius' work is amazing. I went on his HH beginner's course last year and had a blast despite being the worst in the room. Hadn't written so many lecture notes since uni!
