  1. Hello again ye hallowed halls of the B&C! Seems I did a disappearing act again in my previous topic. Long story short I started to hate the models I painted up for Legio Victorum, I rushed them and I made alot of mistakes building them. I still have them, and they may yet provide fodder for my new project: LEGIO ASCALON I've been plugging away at this guy for about a week now, really forcing myself to take my time. Mucked up the melta cannon a bit, I will attempt to rectify. Should have the VMB stand in from Battlebling any day now, looking forward to that, and waiting on some basing materials. I got the Precept Maniple Battle force, and I had a Warbringer and this Reaver. So that's the current build log. Working towards a Perpetua Maniple of two Reavers and two Warbringers then finishing up with the two Warhounds and the Warlord. After that...maybe a Warmaster? Thanks for looking!
  2. "Speak." "So that the dead may hear!" "Kill." "So that the dead may be avenged!" "Live." "So that the dead may never be forgotten!" -Charnel Consuls Rite of Remembrance I decided to start a thread on my on Successor that I've been developing, the Charnel Consuls AKA The Unkind. I was inspired by Paul Nortons Iron Ravens. Originally they were to be my own DIY but as Death Watch. Suddenly the new marine 'dex dropped and alongside it I saw the IR's; so vanilla they became. It is a work in progress from fluff to models. ++ BEGIN DATA STREAM++ //ERROR_INFORMATION MISSING OR CORRUPT //DATA RECOVERY INITIALIZING... A History of Unkindness The Charnel Consuls are a Primaris chapter founded during the Ultima Founding. Like their ancestors, the Raven Guard, they excel in ambush and shock tactics. They favor high mobility mounted hit and run tactics using Impulsors and are experts in urban warfare. They wear black and gold armor with company colors on the left knee pad. Their symbol is a black raven on a field of gold. Chapter Beliefs The Charnel Consuls hold a deep reverence for the dead, even for those they slay. They believe that death is the darkness cast by the Emperors Light and that in communing with the dead they receive guidance from their fallen brothers, friends, and enemies. To this end they collect the skulls of the dead, friend or foe, and gild them in gold to don upon their armor. Notable Charnel ConsulsChapter Master [ERROR] Captain [ERROR] High Chaplain [ERROR] Lieutenant [ERROR] Chief Librarian [ERROR] Chief Apothecary [ERROR] Current WIPs 2,000 Point list I used and am building towards:

  4. This log will be for a 30K lost XI legion. I've been playing HH for a few years and have done a couple of legions (Night Lords and 2K Sons predominantly) but have reached the point that I want to do something different with a bit more flexibility than I've had before. I've done a close combat legion, I've done a psychic heavy legion, now I want to do something that the other legions don't have, a choom based legion. Background: A while ago I read (and re-read) Athrawes lost legion blog (http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285838-the-lost-and-forgotten-building-the-ii-legion/, read it if you haven't!) and it was particularly inspiring. What particularly inspired me (aside from the great models and artwork) was the use of the tarots to define his primarch and the description of the other lost primarch, "Fortune." Link: http://menducia.atspace.com/primarchs/X.html Once I read the tarot, I had a ton of ideas straight away about the character of the other lost primarch, how he was effectively the "good" primarch, the one who was too idealistic, too reasonable and too 'human' to succeed, and I really wanted to build his legion. So I made a few decisions/rules: 1. The description of the primarch and his history is paramount. I see the primarch as being the missing link between the other brothers. In 30k, the primarches are heavily polarised from one another, with many hating each other or being generally poor siblings. I wanted him to understand the need for unity and be the bridge between them and that his failure/death means that this chasm of mistrust grows even deeper. He holds genuine affection for the vast majority of his brothers and he's willing to embrace and give them the benefit of the doubt even when it's clear they are wrong. He is the good influence on the worst of them, but they are the worst influence on him. (I have particularly strong ideas about his relationship with Kurze) He is consistently popular with his brothers and understands the drivers of even the most difficult of them (Kurze, Lorgar etc), but cannot stand those who throw their troops lives away or are withdrawn to the point of suspicion. (Pertarbo) This is his single greatest character flaw and has to inevitably be his downfall, his over eagerness to trust others must be his demise. Someone has to let him down, under deliver or betray him and leave him vulnerable. He has to come from a world that was disunited and fractured until he arrived. He is no great general, he is a great uniter of man. He is closer to Lorgar than Angron in ability, but without the requirement for dogma and rules. He can convert worlds by words alone and longs to build a mini, semi-democratic empire like Roboute. 2. They have to be armed differently to the other legions and have a different quirk. To this end, I bought 40 volkites and a dread with dual volkites. I love volkites ever since my 2K Sons 10 man heavy squad half killed a primarch through weight of fire. This also meant that most of my army would be close up choom marines, which I hadn't used before. Ideally every single unit will have volkites and no unit will have a bolter. Even crews to platforms will have volkite pistols. In addition, power halberds are their choice of combat weapons. 3. They had to be a colour no other legion has: This was harder than I thought it would be. The other legions have a pretty good spectrum of colour and this limited the field to only a couple of options. Rather than a boring old brown or a variety/mix of colours, I decided to do orange. But not just a bit of orange, I wanted them to stand out... So I picked up Tamiya Clear Orange. 4. The unit choices have to display a 'great faith in humanity'. In short, no mechanical 'bots. I have quite a few in my 2K sons so this worked well with the 2nd point as well. I love my bots, but they are exceptionally good. 5. They have to have a unique name and symbol. I spent a long time trying to find a unique chapter pad before coming across a shapeways store with the manticore symbol that I didn't recognise. This has become the legions symbol. I haven't come up with a name as of yet, but open to ideas! ------------------------ So, after coming up with these rules, I went out and picked up a dread with dual volkites, a speeder, 40 volkites, 40 white scar helmets, 60 manticore symbols, some grey knight spares, 4 bottles of tamiya clear and a prospero box and got to work. Below is the first, WIP steps of the terminators and some tactical (support) marines. For gameplay, my group is unlikely to be bothered that I use tactical support as tactical marines (they are actually probably worse I think!), but if they are then I will use them as Night Lords as only Night Lords and Sons of Horus can use this many volkites.
  5. I've been a long time lurker on here (since 2007 I believe) and finally grew some stones and signed up properly. I'm using this thread to document my return to 40k after not touching anything for 17 years. What will follow is my slow progress on my own Astartes chapter; the Ardent Swords. First up will be the chapter master and honour. The chapter master is still waiting for some bits to arrive so he'll probably be postponed to January at this rate. Hope you all enjoy watching my journey back into the grim darkness. First up; the honour guard. These chaps are built on the reiver base with extra bits stuck on. First time doing hand transplants with these guys and was more fiddly than expected.
  6. Howdy! After years of stalling, doing research, lurking, and general procrastination I have finally put brush to model and begun my first army. I have painted a bit on and off, and after a couple of abortive attempts I have finally settled on a scheme that looks good and is easy to replicate. Sure, they look like Blood Angels or Word Bearers, but I am happy with them thus far. This army will be my DIY Chapter, the Red Fangs. They are both in their final stages, they just need decals and weathering on their shoulder pads and finally basing. First, pictures, then a question/favor. The test guy, and first member of my first tactical squad, the picture represents the red well: The second guy, finished tonight: And the two together: The Images are shoddy at best, but not bad for smartphone pics. Fluff to come, as that is my thing. Now for the question, what kind of bases should I go for? Starship deck? Urban? Thanks for any C&C in advance! *EDIT* Just realized the bolters need to be drilled! DOH!
  7. Well. It finally happened. I was bitten by the Primaris bug. I swore it wouldn't happen, heck, I can't even tell you HOW it happened. But here we are, a new army. I don't even know what to call these guys. They're silver and blue, basically the colors of the Tyrant's Legion. They have a white bull or minotaur as their chapter symbol. The list I am working towards is kind of a gun-line style list, with Iron Hands chapter tactics, though I will be looking into using the Indomitus Crusader specialist detachment. Anyway, enough gab, here are a couple of really bad pictures: I will have a better lighting situation after the holidays, but I was just so excited to share! I can see the eyes need some more highlights, and there are a handful of little things that need touching up, still, not bad for tabletop quality! First up will be 3 squads of 5 Intercessors, a Lieutenant, Captain, Ancient, and 2 squads of 5 Hellblasters. Also after the Holidays, I will be acquiring a Deredeo dreadnought for added firepower and protection with the Atomantic Pavaise. That should put me right around 1000pts. If anyone has suggestions on names I am all ears!
  8. Howdy, folks! Without a whole lot of preamble, I've been looking at expanding my relatively static forces, as well as finishing up those I have but haven't based or painted. This here will be that effort cataloged for posterity. First up, I've got my first Noise Marine: his sonic blaster is made out of a bolter and different shapes of styrene. He'll have some guitar wire running from backpack to gun in the tradition of DIY Noise Marines, but only after I get some cutter that can handle steel without suffering the same fate as my snips. Click to embiggen!

Here's the commander of my (not finalised) D.I.Y. chapter's 2nd company, as denoted by the yellow (in this case gold) detailing on the chest. I do not currently have a logo for the chapter that I am happy with.
  10. I've decided to get started on a preheresy legion. But why start with RAF troops when I can lead the project with something more... epic. ** So people know, yes I'm inspired by/shamelessly stealing this guy's work: http://www.tanksandtrolls.co.uk/40k%20Stormbird%20Troop%20Transport.htm I start with This: http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2013/364/c/0/stormbird_02_by_kasumidoll-d701zv1.jpg And then add That: http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2013/364/2/8/stormbird_01_by_kasumidoll-d701zmf.jpg Then add These: http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2013/364/4/a/stormbird_03_by_kasumidoll-d701zyj.jpg And maybe end up with something looking like Thus: http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2013/364/5/e/stormbird_04_by_kasumidoll-d70201r.jpg Then I just need lots of plasticard, some other fiddly bits and some legion etched brass things. On a side note, does anyone have a good tutorial for fixing all the broken door hinges?
  11. Been a couple years since I've played 40k, or even modeled anything. I came back to the B&C and saw Maverick Prime's conversion challenge and thought to myself: now that's a capital idea- and a heck of a way to get back into the hobby. A supply runs and hours at the table later and I remember how hard conversion work is. But I digress, here are some extremely work in progress shots of my chaplain for the "Litanies and Legends" conversion challenge. Comments, critique and criticism are encouraged and appreciated. The base model is Ivanus Enkomi of the Minotaurs chapter from the Forge World model company. The head has been replaced with a metal chaplain helmet, the feet will be replaced with the armored boots from the same chopped up metal model. The minotaur/bull head on the chest has been shaved down and slightly green stuffed to resemble a human sternum (figured I might as well considering the chest armor is modeled after a rib cage). A side image of the chaplain conversion work in progress. Just a small detail to note but I green stuffed on a small squareish carpenter style nail into the purity seal. Wax can only adhere to a surface so well, especially something like armor- having it physically nailed into the surface of the armor makes a little more sense in my opinion. According to my fianc
