MR, if we were going after any on the following, Tyber would be much more brash...

Orks

Eldar (both white meat and dark meat)

Necrons

The most common aliens my chapter has faced on the table top.... though they seem to fight CSM the most...

If we get to fight those wretched vermin called Eldar or Orks, trust me, despite how much shorter than Tyber he is, Akkad will see eye-to-eye with you!

His beloved Chapter Master was killed by Orks and many worlds in the Maelstrom Zone have been pillaged and ravished by Dark Eldar and Eldar Pirates.  Akkad has suffered constant war with them, as with all the Maelstrom Warders, he is hard-bitten, battle-hardened by experience and it will take a great deal for him to disagree with you.

MR.

The Novamarines have a special hatred for Xenos so you won't see Vaidan standing in your way. Heck, he's more likely to make sure he's the first of the team blasting away at them!

Regarding writing I'm still struggling a bit. It's been a while since I've done any serious text work and while I'm enjoying the challenge, I'm also being very critical of my own work especially when I compare it to, f'rex, MR's or Ninesword's texts.

You surprise and humble me at the same time sir - I have always thought your snippets were good stuff and think you have only served to embolden the rest of us with your Novamarine bonhomie!  To be honest this is the most I've posted here, mainly lurking for many a year - so my writing quality is a bit ropey here and there - the technical jargon Xin comes out with is knockout calibre and I can't really adjust - but I'm not a Techmarine and it's wonderfully in character for him, so I don't have to compete.

In all sincerity - can we assist you in some way?  I am cognisant that there *are* other members in the Kill Team and am trying not to "hoard the board" so to speak (but I am so excited by this opportunity, so please forgive me if I have) - would me shutting up for a while be of any use to allow Vaidan to flex himself?

You could consult our GM as well perhaps?

MR.

I am thoroughly enjoying this as well. We have quite a cast assembled here and it's great to see all the thought put into them. The enthusiasm you guys put into this is quite catchy!

And I can easily relate here. It's been quite some time since I wrote anything like this. I also need to speed up my typing, so I can keep up.

Hi all,

Although I've been more active in the main thread than the OOC I would like to share that your enthusiasm and drive is helping me to keep things going! That you are all encouraging one another to up your game and add the depth that makes this something special.

One thing I would say, based on Dos's most recent post:

Such power given to a loose band of warriors who share only the most tenous bonds of trust and brotherhood... a sense of disbelief overcame Vaidan.

One thing I am trying to emphasise in this game is the crumbling, decaying and inefficient aspect of the Imperium. This area of space is remote and desolate, with many threats endangering the populace. The Imperium is stretched thin - Diocles has not been able to accommodate Ryken's requests because there are other, more serious and pressing missions. It will take you an uncertain amount of time to travel to this far-flung world, where we don't know the situation - help won't be close by, any messages back to Azurea have to come via astropathic communication and could take days or weeks to be answered, if they are answered at all. Serving in the Deathwatch is entirely unlike any assignment you've had before, and the rules of engagement are completely different.

Trying to equate these strangers with the gene-brothers you've served with for almost your entire life is, for me, one of the keys of Deathwatch. That's part of the reason I'm playing Varvost the way I am - to be a thorn in the side of any attempt to reach harmony!

Hope that gives some indication of what I'm thinking.

(I also totally wasn't expecting you to take the Interrogator along!)

I think you are really doing great at conveying the back-against-the-wall / two-minutes-to-midnight theme of the late M41. I also enjoy the snippets you throw in to create a living background there, like the reference to other operations and systems.

I decided to finally get Guymer's Eve of Medusa this weekend and already like what complete bastards the Hands are. It is already helping me to balance the more Techpriest setup against the insular hate of Medusan culture. Sabaan is pretty out of his depth, .I guess. He is used to be interlinked to his squad and I also believe that all Astartes are basically designed to form some sort of (fighting) group, yet here he is among cousins he has been taught not to rely on and going into battle outside the pretty high tech seeming set up of his chapter. I do not see him bonding particularly well or fast at the moment while struggling to be as efficient as possible as part of his duties.

I have not played an DeathWatch game before but always thought the differences in Origins and outlook between killteam members should be fun and take quite some focus. Otherwise, if you are just looking to kill stuff with a diverse group of allies, you can always just play Warhammer Quest, right?

In all sincerity - can we assist you in some way?  I am cognisant that there *are* other members in the Kill Team and am trying not to "hoard the board" so to speak (but I am so excited by this opportunity, so please forgive me if I have) - would me shutting up for a while be of any use to allow Vaidan to flex himself?

It's more me getting words onto the screen and using expressions which actually mean something (the bane of being multilingual) that are causing me issues. So no, Akkad shutting up won't do. ;)

Regarding arming ourselves, my thoughts for the Novamarine were the following:

  1. Take a heavy flamer and a chainsword (20 Req);
  2. or take Hellfire Rounds (25 Req) and kindly ask someone for the extra 5 Req I need.

Thoughts?

Last but not least, any idea on how you'd all like to designate the Squad Leader? Vote?

Well, you have the jump pack as part of your standard equipment and it doesn't encumber you in any way - so you have the option of taking it, even if Tyber is at a disadvantage to pilot rolls or the like. It still fits in with the narrative of Tyber being somewhat inexperienced.

You could also consider Special Issue Ammunition?

CM, I did, but Tyber trusts in standard bolt ammo, as I am at point blank anyways (30m optimal), might as well get into melee where I get two attacks thanks to swift attack.

As for disadvantages for pilot personal, I was thinking a -10 for narrative reasons, as Tyber is inexperienced and his chapter doesn't use them often, like to the point where jump packs are not in their order of battle.

Dos, you can take my 20.

Very generous of you, SC. I'll reassess my choices tomorrow.

If you find yourself with 5 left over I wouldn't mind grabbing up the longer ranged sniper rifle.

Steel - the game is a little short on melee weapons at first rank isn't it.

Yea...

But I mean fare enough, as a lot of the later melee equipment skirts the line of OP... a power fist lets me use x3 SB rather than x2, Thunder hammers stun things, power weapons are devastating and then we get into shields!

A.T.:

My understanding is that without Exotic Weapon Training (Sniper Rifle) that you'll be at -20BS when firing. When you say the "longer range" do you mean the Mark IX Ultra-Pattern rifle from Rites of Battle?

I've updated the Character Thread with a template of what I'd like you to fill in. It would be nice if you could add a picture of your Marine or the like so people can visualise better. I've also added a section called "Purchase History" so you can detail what you've spent your initial 1000XP on and it just makes it a little easier for me.

Thanks all!

For Solastion personally, hell be taking:

-Diagnostor Helmet 15req, Core.

-Godwyn Bolter 5req, Core.

Other things peeps should be aware of:

-ALL tactical marines get a free clip of SIA that they meet the renown requirements for.

-An Auspex or Siege Auspex(RoB) would be useful for our endeavors.

-Im not sure if Sabaan actually has an Omnissian Axe. If he does, hot damn, if he doesnt a Combi-tool would be useful for that +10 to tech-use.

-A meltabomb or two might be helpful (check RoB or the FAQ for the revised cost, its not 25 anymore iirc).

-Flamers and/or shotguns might be useful.

Weird. I guess not all space marines were sniper scouts at some point.

@Commissar Molotov: Is there still a slot open? I asked a couple of questions about my character in this thread some time ago and hadn't got an answer. So I figured  the group was full. Just checking though. I am still game with a Carcharodon Assault Marine.

Slips, don't you already have a Bolter?  Or are you having two?

MR.

As a Sanguinary Priest, I dont get one as Standard Wargear. Normal Apothecaries would but I get a Chainsword and an Exsanguinator instead.

Ah, my apologies - showing my lack of knowledge of the advanced specialities there.

MR.

Slips - thanks for that, I was thinking similarly. I didn't know whether Akkad would want to take suspensors on his Heavy Bolter as well.

So far:

Atratus (Assault)- 0RP

- Astartes Sniper Rifle (20) - potential upgrade to MkIX "Ultra" (25)

Akkad (Devastator) - 20RP

Greysight (Tactical) - 20RP

Khyber Vaidan (Tactical) - 20RP

Tyber (Assault) - 20RP

Solastion Albikus (Sanguinary Priest) - 20RP

- Diagnostor Helmet (15)

- Bolter (5)

Nycax Sabaan (Techmarine) - 20RP

Varvost (Assault) - 20RP

Varvost will be fighting with a chainaxe and bolt pistol so is likely to spend his requisition on Special Issue Ammunition - I will read up on this.

Thorvald Hammerhand (Devastator) - 20RP

Partly to fit in with the new Deathwatch aesthetic and partly because I think it's cool, Thorvald will take a Frag Cannon. I've read a bit on the old FFG rules and the Blood Angels dreadnought has a Frag Cannon profile that I will use. As the Heavy Bolter is 20RP so I'm happy to say that takes all of his requisition.

Quixus: I'd say for the moment we are full up - though I appreciate the interest and I know people would enjoy having you around in the OOC thread so that you can jump in if necessary.
