Nope, just started smashing bits together from a couple of boxes. I ended up gluing it and it’s different from that pic, the BFG prow was simply too obviously a BFG prow so I removed it. I like the archaic forward smoke stack that would be a plasma dump valve or something so I kept that but used a container as the front part. I need to print hover cars for cargo and magnetize then to one another with flying stands.

My old attempt at a Kaban machine wasn’t terribly interesting.

Tonight I sat down and tried again.

The weapon hardpoints will be magnetized to fit Warhound and knight guns, Reaver guns looked too ungainly unless I made it look like that Skynet rolling tank. The back end needs work, I might try to hide the magnet in the waist as it looks skinny, and it needs spikes/chains. The head orb will get some tubing eye lenses too.

That’s a very cool scratch build. I almost feel like it doesn’t need that warhound armour plate - though it needs something there and that does work. The tracks are really great.

Nerd moment: I started designing my herektek magos while plowing through bits boxes and wanted to name him and the forgeworld he's from.  I haven't picked a name for the planet but I'm calling him Parallax - he loves the simple joy of hacking open an STC constructor, removing the failsafes and restrictors, infecting [gracing?] it with scrapcode, loading a design, feeding it raw materials, sacrificing a few hundred slaves, and letting the Chaos reshape a design as it sees fit.  He would act more like a biologist culturing things in Petri dishes and letting natural selection take its course of successive experiments.  He loathes the rigidity of Mars slavish adherence to STC designs and sees Chaos as a breath of fresh inspiration to craft novel designs.

The Warhound carapace was originally a back end to fill out the mechanical drivetrain and generator housing but I kinda prefer it up top, especially because it's got the eye of Horus on there.  If he had gotten [aka stolen] Crom's design for the Kaban machine he'd have wanted to improve upon it, I wanted something a little sleeker a heavily armored than what the book described as a spherical body with the void shields protruding on a tracked body.  I'm still not sure about the fan bit on top, I wish the exhausts pointed up so I'll probably start that again or add a couple of turnups (maybe flamer muzzles).  Once I have that, the four weapon hardpoints, maybe a couple of melee tentacle hardpoints, the shield generators, and the hood glued on I'll probably just fill out the body with more crap glued on to cover up the fact that it's just a ping pong ball :laugh.:  My dark magos would probably feed his constructors a bunch of broken bits from other titans or knights or see what the gods create.

What about the waist? Is it too skinny?  My Dremel Stylus died this week after over 10 years of service so I bought a simple cordless two speed Dremel at Walmart this morning.  If I take another of those bits and carve out a hole for the magnet and back it with greenstuff it'll sit flush plastic to plastic which will probably look better but I need to make sure it clears the track body.  I'll probably drill holes for spikes and hang some chain here and there, I also thought trailing some chain off the back like he broke loose.

Regarding the waist, the visible magnet makes it a bit skinny indeed. This said, I don't think it is too skinny. Before cutting and slicing, I would play in photoshop to see what it would look like if the top magnet were embedded in the manufactorum piece you used as basis for the torso (aka ping pong ball).

An alternative would be to use another similar piece on top of the lower part, so that you would get an hourglass shape. It could be drilled so the top magnet can be hidden by it. Potential drawback: it would mask some details.

If the BFG bay component is not glued yet, it might be interesting to cut it in two parts and invert one half so that there is symmetry.

I love the use of the Warhound piece with the eye of Horus as shoulder shield on the knight.

Wonderful use of the manufactorum pieces, they are perfect.

I spent some time last night while watching the Michael Jordan documentary getting some contrast gray on the knight exoskeletons, got about 1/3 of the way through that.  I feel the need to get careful going in there so I don't get too much on the top of the plates so I don't have to do a lot of cleanup. That may be false economy, I'm not sure if moving carefully at a wash stage to avoid needing a cleanup phase is saving me that much time. :unsure.:

I had totally planned to get my psi-titan assembled so I wouldn't paint but instead I worked on some crotch/weapon banners for my titans.  These are the same templates I used for my knight banners as those are getting replaced with shorter ones - they're too tall for my taste.  The ones with gears are for my loyalists and the eye/star ones are obviously for the traitors.

I love the idea that my houses are trying to use massive banners full of script and mathematical equations to prove they're right about the nature of the Omnissiah.

What diameter brass rod should I use for these?

I know a lot of players like 1750 but I thought this might be fun to try at 2000:

Venator Maniple

Reaver - Melta/Gatling/Missiles

Warhound - Turbolaser/Megabolter

Warhound - Turbolaser/Megabolter

Lascannon Acastus support knight

Corsair Maniple

Reaver - Volcano/Laserblaster/Missiles

Reaver - Volcano/Gatling/Missiles

Reaver - Gatling/Gatling/Missiles

Lascannon Acastus support knight

Two mini maniples (miniples?) each with a support Acastus.  The weapon options aren't maxed out for damage but rather to economize on points but it's also 8 activations which might help the Venators get in position to maybe line up shots.  I could actually skirmish this over the phone with a friend to see how it moves.

I would advocate putting both Acastus in the same Banner; it increases their Ion save which they deperately need, but most importantly it makes a massive amount of hits on the same location when they fire together at Titans.

I'd say head to a hobby shop that sells either Evergreen or Plastruct styrene and pick the diameter round stock that looks right to you.

Styrene has some flexibility which IMO outweighs the strength you get out of metal. Most of the same stores also sell round brass stock, which is the best of both worlds.

Well I was just seeing how you can take a pair of Reaver-centric maniples each with their own support banner.  Now just think - before the balance change you could take those two maniples and get two Acastus in each banner.

I could always use plastic but the brass or paperclip would be a touch stronger. Paperclip is even magnetic so this might be swappable then. Crotch and gun banners are something I should be worried about on actually finished titans once I can play again.

That's pretty awesome. I think the blade needs a bit of work to not just be a flat piece, but the overall scale and shape of the thing is great.

Not sure what would work best to make the blade more like an actual sword. Maybe GS on each side, rolled carefully to get a ridge along the middle.

I have more plastic and I was looking to order more, especially some ladders. I might sand along the side of the ricasso so it’s narrower than the blade - not as much as Conan’s sword or a GK force sword but a bit and paint it bronze. I also need wires to run up the arm so I need to get the arm (and the body why not?) built ASAP. I have a few bits that would work as parry hooks - not that titan sword would need them but why not? - but calling my greenstuff skills “bad” would be charitable.

It’s just blue tacked in for now, I wish I had someone local who is good at sculpting detail flourishes.

  • 3 months later...

I haven’t touched these in a couple of months and they still have many hours to go. No idea if/when I’ll ever get a game in again with 9th edition being released and GW not really supporting AT in stores so there’s not much motivation.  I’ve also got 389,612,770 other projects going

This is all contrast paint so far, the white panels on the back right shoulder and lower left leg need to be blocked in as I go along with Micron pen markings as I finish the panels. I haven’t even finished shading the skeletons.
