Sherrypie
Yay, my Vanguard order arrived. Now I can clip up some servitors to repair armless Castellax, because this makes sense at 6 mm :D ShotgunFacelift 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/357330-echoes-of-eisenstein-upscaling-madness-with-the-xiv/page/6/#findComment-5600697 Share on other sites
Sherrypie
Right, so here's about 9000 points before I start putting on the basing splodges.Add a box or two of Aeronautica fliers and it's a nice, round 10k of stuff that can ally as much again in titans from Favilla as needed :D Elzender and Doghouse 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/357330-echoes-of-eisenstein-upscaling-madness-with-the-xiv/page/6/#findComment-5601203 Share on other sites
noigrim
You can use these bots as titan hunter infantry too Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/357330-echoes-of-eisenstein-upscaling-madness-with-the-xiv/page/6/#findComment-5601204 Share on other sites
Sherrypie
You can use these bots as titan hunter infantry too Yeah, when I need 100 tokens on the field :D But seriously that's another bonus in making this second army, so that there are multiple visually distinct markers available if more than one player uses THI. Sherrypie
Quick update on the basing front, the force is soon ready to get basecoated :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/357330-echoes-of-eisenstein-upscaling-madness-with-the-xiv/page/6/#findComment-5602934 Share on other sites
Sherrypie
Did some work with profound meaning, aka switched some AI fighters to older AI bases (the new ones are unsightly large to my taste) while preserving the number dials but making them otherwise prettier for Epic purposes. The newer flying stand was also a bit bigger than the old hole, requiring some slight surgery.Given the Lightning box contains about a million missiles, I also bashed some AA autoturrets from surplus Warbringer shoulders: Grotsmasha, StratoKhan and Doghouse 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/357330-echoes-of-eisenstein-upscaling-madness-with-the-xiv/page/6/#findComment-5603600 Share on other sites
Sherrypie
Boy it's been a while but I've got my master's thesis written and the self-imposed miniature exile is over. Returning to the fray on the tall front, I went and started on something bigger for a change :D I am going to be busting some heads with this hunk of resin if the blitheringly stupid DG restrictions for FW Legion units aren't FAQ'd post-haste, but first he'll have to get finished. So nice to build things again ^^ StratoKhan, Elzender and Gederas 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/357330-echoes-of-eisenstein-upscaling-madness-with-the-xiv/page/6/#findComment-5634835 Share on other sites
Naryn
Didn't notice those ground AA emplacements last time but i love them! Very simple and elegant solution. As a Thousand Sons player I feel your pain about the FW unit restrictions. Sherrypie
Cheers, Naryn :) Yeah, TS are technically even worse off as they don't have even a single drone like Death Guard. But man, is that whole debacle silly. Sherrypie
Screwed up a bit of one track because of a bloody wobbly gubbin at the front, fixed with liberal weathering. This baby will be muddy, alright. The current 40k statline also incorporates a twin heavy bolter for some reason, so I bashed one up for the crew to shoot aspiring graffiti artists off the hull with. Sherrypie
Painting train rolls on, today I started on the Epic Mechanicum with some Thanatars. Bases are 20 mm, for reference.I now have huge robots, big robots and small robots in this scheme, soon also even smaller robots and infantry :DWondering about the bases, though. Should they get a bit of shrub like most others, be more rad-blasted or perhaps burned by the plasma mortars  ShotgunFacelift, Doghouse and Naryn 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/357330-echoes-of-eisenstein-upscaling-madness-with-the-xiv/page/6/#findComment-5638671 Share on other sites
Sherrypie
Some even smaller bots today. Naryn
Those tiny robots are so stylish! I love how the bases look even at that small scale. The different tones look really good and sell the illusion of patchy earth well! Sherrypie
Cheers Naryn :) You know, this was one of those days I realize I am an idiot. Life tends to be easier when you use proper tools and taking pictures of very small models might work out better if using a macro objective in the camera. Derp. Also, razorwire and dragon's teeth on sticks ready to be thrown around the field. Bjorn Firewalker
You should take photos under brighter lights. I want to compliment your work, but the poor lighting makes your models look like dark blobs against a darker background, hiding details you likely put a lot of effort into. Sherrypie
Sorry 'bout that Bjorn, it's a learning process. Especially here in the great northern wastes where daylight can end before you even get out of the bed :D Meanwhile, I promise to paint some actually new models soon, but I had to take a few scale shots for a friend. Who knew, titans look like quite big machines when there's infantry around. Bjorn Firewalker
You should photograph the dark red model against a light-colored background- maybe put a sheet of paper behind it- so the contrast will make it easy to see, instead of blurring into the dark background. (If the model is light-colored, you can use the dark background to contrast it.) Bjorn Firewalker
The models look much better against a light background, in contrast to their dark red colors. Sherrypie
Yeah, though it's a bit hard to find a suitably light but not white background. White can easily reflect too much from unnatural angles, especially as darker models require longer shutter times to properly capture their detail. Well, live and learn.
