Cult of the Deep Void? What's that?

That is what my sleep deprived brain calls a heretic Chacharodon warband :tongue.:

With the exile markings are all tentacle and not quite chaosy. It will be a pain to free hand.

Chaos Carcharodons with tentacle markings? Iä! Iä! Cthulhu fhtagn!

Just a case of narrowing down the choice of Minotaur, Space Shark or Executioner!

Ooh, Executioners – Secessionists are badly outnumbered, and what better way to scratch an itch than with a double-handed axe?

The man speaks the truth :tu: Doooooooo iiiiiiit! It’s only a few models ;)

I do always gravitate towards the bad guys  but I get the feeling the Minotaurs are more in that vein than the Executioners!

I do have plenty of double handed axes too....

Alright. And how would they fit into the Badab War narrative?

I'd also rate Minotaurs as more "bad" than Executioners. Either way, you'll do a solid job I'm sure. :tu:

It's not so much an error as just me wanting to keep the focus on the Badab War narrative. There's plenty of opportunity to explore the respective factions before and after this event but I'd encourage people to do that elsewhere given the singular focus of this thread. :) That and the Badab War has plenty of areas which could do with fleshing out in both word- and model-form. :tu:

Thanks man, hopefully! And the solid job I will be aiming to get right is.......drum roll......

Minotaurs

“I, Midnightmare, swear to complete a Kill Team consisting of 8 Minotaur Veterans who are committed to the Loyalist cause of decimating the the traitorous Tyrant Huron and his allies. The deadline for this will be December in the year 2020 and I shall do my bestest not to fail my fellow Frater”

Yeah, I have plumped for the Minotaurs after much deliberation, as even though I have a soft spot for the Executioners, I have always, always loved the brazen shiny guys with a penchant for murdering other space marine chapters since FW redid them. I am gonna go down the Sternguard true scale based on Primaris route for reasons -

1) I love the Primaris models

2) I hate the Primaris fluff :D

3) My dudes will be mostly (mostly!) wearing MkVIII ‘Errant’ armour which resembles the Mk X :D

4) I love the gold colour scheme with the red pauldrons (ie veteran)

5) I will be painting them dirty, beat up and in the middle of battle as usually the are all shiny with the best equipment polished up.

6) I have set myself as long as possible date as I have an awful lot on with my Black Legion and these guys will be a strict, labour of love side project. Hopefully I will finish before!

So, tdlr; I am in!

The Spear of Judgement has aimed at Badab

Midnightmare: Nice! Looking forward to seeing your Minotaurs! :tu:

Well now, a Badab war modelling project.

Not sure I can resist joining in.

That's the idea.

I don't have enough likes for this thread!

Biohazard, that test model is ace, the blue tone is lovely! Can't wait to see more like him.

Still messing around with contrast paints trying to find a Mantis Warriors green tone I like. Watch this space!

Ooh, I like those guys a lot. They look seriously tough! Definitely not a group you want to mess with. I love the little touches of character--the shaved head on the right, the angle of the reiver's head, the "angry" look on the second from the left. It gives each figure a little individualism in the midst of all their very regimented heraldry.

...it'd be a shame if something were to happen to them on the moons of Lomea :P

Meanwhile, I'm still wrestling with the painting but have got two basic marines together in between swearing at my primer and swearing at my pot of Plaguebearer Flesh:

gallery_74400_16105_359446.jpg

Most of the effort in these guys went into slimming down the weapons, something I think really adds to the "bulk" of the figures. I'm awaiting a shipment of Deathwatch power packs and Imperial Space Marine heads before I go about making any more, so these two will likely be the first on the painting table while I wait for those to arrive.

Some great stuff on here guys, really enjoying this thread so far :tu:

First steps taken of my kill team, to be codenamed Kill Team Hades. I only have one Primaris atm (I was originally going to paint him up as a Flesh Eater) but I will be using him as my Sergeant -

gallery_46632_13392_492820.jpeg

Early stages, missing his shoulder pauldron as I have ordered some Deathwatch Minotaur ones as I don’t fancy freehanding the symbol. Only snag is, it’s not the Minotaur symbol!! Doh!! Pardon my crude photoshopping skills, but a little greenstuff tweak to the horns and remove the ears and I should be able to make it a convincing Minotaurs symbol -

gallery_46632_13392_195476.jpeg

I want to paint the pauldron red to denote veteran status, so I will have to invert the colours with the Minotaur head in gold, or perhaps in white so as to break the gold up? I will see when it comes to paint time. I might yet go with the free hand or even fork out for the Forge World fancy ones.

As for my Sergeant, you can see I have shaved some of the details around the knee, added a bit of greenstuff to the ankles only to realise that Mk VII armour has a similar fitting to Primaris armour. Doh (again)! Not to worry, I feel I am quite new to this Loyalist stuff :D I chose the head as it is giving a look of pure distain and somebody or something, very apt for the Chapter. Powerfist is just a place holder until I come up with a sword on a Primaris auspex arm I think.

gee great stuff, ca..nno..t.  re..si..st..

dos - purveyor of fine events  - I'll commit to the secessionist roster with Huron's Will demi-legion.

hope I can put up an offering of the standard we're already seeing - looking good

I've built my 4 astral claws - not up to the conversion standards of many here, but I'm happy with the results.

No names yet - are there any naming conventions (latin names, germanic names, whatever names...) that exist for the claws?

All of them are all parts from the space marine tactical box, except as noted.

The sergeant - right arm  and shoulder pad from the old chaos marine box, axe from new chaos marine box.

yRj5Qan.jpg

The plasma gunner  - left arm and shoulder pad from old chaos marine box.

qy5fdK8.jpg

The close combat guy - left arm and chainsword, right leg below the knee, combat knife (on belt) and head from old chaos box.

gVR3qTy.jpg

Heavy bolter guy - both arms and heavy bolter, right leg below knee, combat knife and holstered pistol from old chaos box.

B2jkKmo.jpg

Tried giving one a chaos backpack, but it was comically huge in comparison to the loyalist ones, so ended up replacing it.

Repaired the battle damage on the chaos shoulder pad on the sergeant - I want the chaos bits to look like the new ones, not the old ones.  Have done some battle damage to the loyalist parts which doesn't really show up in the pics, and will be doing some more.

At the moment they don't look very chaos-y, which I'm not certain if I am happy with.  Maybe if I paint the chaos bits red... but that may make them stand out too much.  Have to think on that, and/or perhaps adding some chaos trophy spikes.

Across the breathless sea
My Tyrant summons me
Oh come to Badab, come and see
Our battle to be free

This, then, is my declaration. A wayward son of Badab pledges his brush to the cause. Legion Cohort Surraek will return sometime in the next year to fight alongside their brethren, clad as they should be in silver and in blue. Current force disposition and timeframe unknown, but they'll be back. I swear by the Tyrant of Badab's name.

There Death shall find me willing
When silent fall the horns

Where fallen kings lie sleeping
In the Ashes of the Thorns

I`ve only ever painted one mini in my life so far... Ahhhh to the warp with it :biggrin.:

Let it never be said the sons of the angel don`t stand alongside their brothers in their hour of need, the Lamenters shall heed the call :happy.:

(Force disposition is currently unknown due to me being in work)

Nice work Dr_Ruminahui :tu:

Have had a brief look at the Kill Team rules, I see you can mix and match squads which I wasn’t aware of - not to be a power gamer as my guys may not ever see any play - I think I will change my vow to five Sternguard, and three other specialists to allow me to do a couple of Vanguard Vets and maybe a Company Veteran, which will make for more interesting conversions. I will sprinkle in some magnets for weapon options in case they ever see any use!

Well, this is a perfect opportunity to finish the kill team squad of Sons of Medusa I intended to create for Brother Tyler's Badab event a while back!

I'll submit a vow after returning from attending the opening match of the 6 Nations. :D

This is shaping up to be some excellent stuff, judging from the work already seen.

Still waiting for my Eliminators to arrive, so I make do with the FW books and name finding.

Any thoughts on cultural leanings or naming regarding the Mantis Warriors from my fellow wardens ... the whole hidden valley of the wind thing always triggered some ninja vibe in me...

My army is supposed to be post-Badab, but my models that , lore-wise, are veterans of the Badab War have a variety of names from Asian countries, including Mongolian, Indian, Chinese, and Russian

Just from scrolling the Lexicanum list of named Mantis Warriors, I'm also seeing a number of weirdly Norse or Roman sounding names. Most of them are from the C.S. Goto books though, so I don't think anyone would blame you for disregarding them.

I usually go with names with a sort of harsh consonant sound for my Mantis Warriors, especially k and z sounds.

EDIT: Been absolutely slammed with work, not had much hobby time this week. Managed to scrape together a new Mantis Warrior, minus the po wer pack and helmet that are still in the mail. Pretty pleased with the slimmed-down bolter he's got; it's a little shorter than the ones my other two have, since it's made from a left over apothecary gun instead of the bottom half of a combi-bolter. I guess I'll count it as a bolt carbine? He seems like a commanding sort, maybe I could run his as a Reiver lieutenant

Liking his pose so far Naryn, where does his right hand come from?

Here is where I am at with my Sergeant so far for Kill Team Hades :tu:

Going with the Power Sword over the Fist, as I think I will enjoy painting this more. Needs a sight on his Bolter too, to count it as a Sternguard one. I am still in two minds over the Bolters, go for old ones or stick with the fancy Primaris ones and counts as?

I went with FW pads in the end too, more fitting for veterans me thinks
