Question for this crew:

Someone shows up to a game with a Land Raider variant X and says it will be played as Land Raider variant Y.

Wargear options are as WYSIWYG as can be given the proxying. The model is painted as is the rest of the army.

Yay/Nay?

Obviously if it's a fairly casual game I think most people would be ok with that. More competitive games, maybe not so much.

My thoughts are that with all the various financial, supply chain, and distancing issues happening to many folks here in 2020, where is the leeway for some things?

Specifically, I am considering using a ("classic") Land Raider Phobos as a Land Raider Proteus. Both have sponson Twin-LInked Lascannons and the Proteus can be upgraded to have a Twin-Linked Heavy Bolter, thus having the WYSIWYG part covered. AFAIK, the actual footprint and shape on the Tabletop is pretty darn close as well. The main issues are that its technically a proxy and the actual look of the thing.

Phobos has an extra door right in the front. But why run it as that? Is it a Ded Transport option thing?

Shouldnt be a problem. Make oppo aware and dont use the front ramp or actually try to charge anything with the assault ramp rule..

Speaking of... three colors! Its done right?... :whistling:

Yeah, no... lots to do.

Proteus is DT for Seekers. Also like the Exploratory Web Augur option big time.

Great call on the front door.

And is a  DT for Interemptors..  I had the same internal discussion.  Especially with the horror stories over assembly but it wasnt too bad..  Yet...

IIRC, FW Resin Land Raider and Spartan horror stories mostly come from the time before the tracks were molded onto the side panels of the tank and you had to glue them on yourself and potentially have to cut links because of size issues.

When I built my spartan, the longest and hardest part were those :cuss tracks I swear to god I almost threw it across the room before coming to my senses and realising what an expensive resin brick I was holding.

Tracks are still loose on the Proteus kits. Wasnt a horrible fix but it did bring out the saws...

DO NOT.. put the sponsons half on and try to put the gun and mount on later...

Jeah my proteus was okay to build Till I got to the tracks...

I feel proxying any lr for another variation is okay.

I had been proxying my 40k BT rhinos for my 30k fists for the longest time because I didnt see myself investing upwards of 100 euros and 2-4 weeks of free Time into 3 x 35pts.

Now I was getting annoyed with the whole thing so I talked myself into painting magnetized rhino chassis that can become preds or a scropius or rhinos. Which was way more time consuming in terms of building but I'll a) actually use the scorpius b) field yellow rhinos c) put a pretty nice armoured breakthrough list on the field once I have painted a 4. rhino chassis and some sicarans.

I'd be fine with this - but it would be really cool to see a conversion of the Phobos with something different at the front - maybe some reworked bit like the Achilles to get rid of the door, maybe that iconic* central viewport? And maybe some extra ariel or scanner on the top?

*yes I know the word "iconic" is overused, but if the Land Raider Proteus doesn't deserve it, then what does?

I'd be fine with the phobos representing the proteus landraider, in my opinion. Just let your opponent know rule differences. Speaking of phobos...

I'm at an odds on how to do the camo net/canvas. Dark grey, like an eshin grey?

They used to come molded off? Oh man... I just got my first spartan, and was looking at the chunks of resin like; "This doesn't look so bad". Sucks, because I ordered the Blood and Skulls industry alternative tracks. Oh well, means less swearing, yeah?

Just finished the final touches on a Praetor for my Dark Angels.

Yes, I know, Indomitus Terminator armour is bad in 30k. But I couldn't NOT use the model for a Dark Angels character once I saw Forge World's Lufgt Huron's right shoulder.

Personally, I think this model would represent him during the Late Heresy-era, with an early prototype of what would go on to become the standard Storm Bolter.

He looks good, if it were me though I would switch out the storm bolter for a tigris combi bolter from the tartaros termi's + add a scope, just my personal preference though.

I would do that.... But I'm worried about potentially damaging the arm by removing the storm bolter

Might do it before priming though.

If you don't care about saving the stormbolter + hand, you can clip it apart in sections, use a sharp hobby knife to tidy up the hand to remove the excess to make space for the tigris combi bolter with hand. Its doable. These days I find it easier to not worry about the hands when doing weapon swaps since bare grips aren't a thing anymore.

Well.... I did it:
