Brother Cambrius
Greetings everyone! It's been quite a while since I made a WIPlog here, but with 12 Months of Hobby and the Liber Martiale taking place, I figured I should chronicle the development of my miniatures for the events. Some of these are ones I started over a decade ago, but remained incomplete as I took a minor sabbatical and suffered from Hobbyist's Short Attention Span (HSAS)... This WIP log will follow as I build and grow my two established DIY Chapter armies, the Sons of Doom and the Vanquishers, both descendants of the Imperial Fists. So to start it off, as per my vow for May in the 12 Months of Hobby, I will be completing a model I started 12 years ago as my Chapter Master for the Sons of Doom, but was left by the wayside for far too long. Thus here we have Chapter Master Oros Sirion of the Sons of Doom in his current state, the Lightning Claws are an ornate master crafted pair called the Pyre Claws, which were one of the first creations made by the founding Master of the Forge, Zicronam when the Sons of Doom were founded in 747.M41: He looked to be lacking a good amount of ornamentation to befit a Chapter Master, thankfully in 12 years my bitz box has grown considerably and I have some fresh pieces to help out, including the cloak you can see form the Chaos Terminator Lord set and also now with some other bitz and pieces as can be seen below: So the plan at the moment is to add the ornamentation, liquid green stuff the holes in the cloak and work on painting Sirion to the best of my ability. More to come soon. Brother Cambrius
Excited to see him assembled! Thanks Badgers! Well I am happy to report some fine progress with fresh coats of paint to base the model and adding some fresh paint down and adding some piece on to help give Chapter Master Sirion a more commanding look befitting such a rank: The cloak is not attached as of yet, to make painting easier, and I am going to looking into working out how to paint a burn onto his face, befitting the Chapter's history of training on their volcanic homeworld. Ace Debonair
I'd be tempted to make the claws more of a different colour from the cloak, but that's my only criticism and it's very nit-picky. It's possible I'm just being overly fussy, come to think of it. Truthfully a wash or two on the cloak will probably make it dark enough that the claws stand out just fine. Definitely looking forward to seeing the Chapter Master completed! Brother Cambrius
Thanks Ace, the plan is to add a more orange glow to the edges of the claws to help deviate it from the cloak, plus the cloak's been given some muting washes of Agrax Earthshade to help it not be as vibrant as seen below, but in keeping to the colours of Chapter Master Sirion's tribal origin, as per Sons of Doom tradition. Good stuff! He'll look nice and intimidating once he's finished. Thanks Badgers, I hope he does, it'll be good to finally play him on the tabletop after all the lockdown protocols are safely lifted in the coming months (hopefully). And thus we have some further progress, with washes on the cloak, some cleaning up on the armour pieces and addition of detail colouring in places. I also reposition the extra armour displaying the Chapter symbol too as I wasn't too happy with the previous placement. I added the Teleportation array too as that'll be the way Sirion will likely drop into games in future, since Land Raiders no longer allow you to assault when deployed from their ramps. Next on the list is general washes on the blue and bronze armour, alongside highlighting and adding the detail needed (including working out what to add on his Honour Shield too, which needs some trimming as I missed the bits sticking out on the edges when I first built him a decade or so ago...) BadgersinHills
Good stuff. What's your plan for colour of the base? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/363713-cambrius-diy-chapter-forge-termie-chapter-master/#findComment-5522579 Share on other sites
Brother Cambrius
Good stuff. What's your plan for colour of the base? Thanks. :) I'm keeping to a grey colour to match the army and their homeworld being volcanic. Sadly I couldn't remove him from the base without doing damage to the model, so I might leave it plain or add some random Astartes detritus or add some Blood for the Blood God to imply a fresh kill. Brother Cambrius
A bit belated, but this model was fully completed last month for 12 Months of Hobby, and the final result (alongside my other DIY Chapter work) can be found here.
