Started playing about with bits I had left over and I think I came up with a use for all the leftover WW1 German bodies I will have after using the heads on the WW1 French kit when it comes out. Just pop on some left over Grognard arms and you have some nice Vets.

med_gallery_75911_16900_749561.jpg

Also managed an Officer, two heavy weapons teams and a Whiteshield.

med_gallery_75911_16900_345587.jpg

Im gonna use bare WW1 Germans straight out the box for Whiteshields, they are not worth giving good equipment so they use old style projectile weapons. If/when they prove themselves they get lasguns.. The kitbashed WW1 French will be my standard infantry and the Grognards will be Vets/Grenadiers.

I will also have vets using WW1 German bodies but they will have lasweapons and better equipment (gasmasks, backpacks, shovels etc) to make them stand out from the grunts. Now I have a plan and an image in my head of what I want can crack on with WGA purchases and know I wont be buying excess stuff I dont need.

Cheers. High praise indeed coming from yourself as your the B&C Krieg guy.

I noticed as soon as I started adding Wargames Atlantic kits to my army the look drifted away from the WW2 more towards the Great War aesthetic, so Im gonna split my force I think. The 502nd will continue as intended with lots of Vets in transports and Tanks flying about and the newer stuff will be the 666th regiment specialising in Urban and Siege warfare.

Actually whilst I remember, a couple of quick questions.

1. What do people favour most out of the Quad Launchers or Heavy Mortars and why?

2. I believe Grenadier squads have been dropped now, so we just use Vets instead? Do they still have the option to take a Heavy Stubber and I guess 'Grenadiers' can now take Sniper rifles?

C. Does anybody have any idea how the North Star mounted Uhhlan's scale next to the average 28mm figure? I know they will be out of scale next to a Guardsman but I am considering them as cheap Deathriders, hoping they will pass next to the WGA minis.

Pik for reference... Not great but a hell of a lot easier than trying to convert Perry Napoleonics.

So I picked up some of the German horsey boys and one of these to use as a Centaur, no idea what the difference is between the forced recon and the normal kit but Im sure Ill learn that at some point lol.

35249-LN01_3236753_Qty1_1.jpg

Just ordered some 3d printed artillery (2 mortars and a thud gun, cheaper than my usual kebab order that I never made tonight so Im saving money :D )  and tomorrow Im picking up some WGA Germans and Grognards. Already have 3 sprues of Grogs in the mail as well so that will give me 63 meat sacks, so that will be my elites and fng's sorted, then I just need the WW1 French kit do drop so I can do all my line infantry.

Im gonna need industrial sized pots of grey paint at this rate.

I currently own the Heavy Mortars (my wife got me them for Christmas) but if I had to choose I’d pick the Quadlaunchers (don’t tell her that!)

The sheer rate of fire (4D6 shots) can really chew through chaff. I’ll definitely be picking some up eventually to finish off my Artillery Company.

Slowly getting there. Started painting the first Vet/Grenadier squad and built a second. Eventually Ill bump both up to ten men when I get some more bits.

Another Commissar, Commander (swapped his arms and head) and a random Master of Ordinance.

med_gallery_75911_16694_181926.jpg

Commissar training squad that I may run as Scions.

med_gallery_75911_16694_465502.jpg

Started the 'Centaur' as well.

med_gallery_75911_16694_430026.jpg

Worked out without the GW bases you could fit 15 chaps in here, may get one of these for Gorkamorka.

med_gallery_75911_16694_368370.jpg

Scale shot with a Leman Russ.

med_gallery_75911_16694_892262.jpg

I may get a few more and convert them to have Mortars in the back, thinking of making some with an armoured compartment for the driver and gunner.

So whats the deal with some of the Krieg stuff at the moment? I know a lot has got folded into the Guard dex and the rest is in the Imperial Armour compendium but whats goin on with the Centaur? Has that gone to legends or just been dropped completely? Oh and Grenadiers, do we just use Veterans now? Guess that means no more 5 man squads and heavy stubber armed dudes? and the same with heavy stubber heavy weapon squads?:sad.:

++EDIT++

Yep found them in legends. Im chill with the changes, I loose out on heavy stubber armed infantry but I do get Krieg Ratlings and Ogryns. Cool cool...

What happend to Elysian Drop Troops? Looks like pretty same thing. No updates, no legends, no comments. It looks like geedubs are up to something, but then you recall what sort of things geedubs and FW did in the past, and the question becomes somewhat rhetorical.

I just want plastic Krieg, I am easily pleased and dont ask for much.

Anyhoo instead of moping about stuff I have no control over I shall focus on what I do have control over, which brings us nicely onto...

Artillery. :D

Got my 3d printed Siege Mortars through, the seller even had a miscast one he threw in for free, the only thing wrong with it is the bottom of one of the wheels is a little bit buggered but thats easily fixable if I 'sink' it into the mud a little bit, no one will be any the wiser. So that brings me up to 3 Mortars and 2 Thudd Guns, although the seller has removed them from his store on ebay which is worrying as I need to buy a few more Thudd Guns (the joys of doing Squats and Guard huh?). If they dont come back up for sale I guess the Squats can have the ones I got already and I will use 3d printed Nebelwerfers for my Guardsmen.

Also started on a 5man Grenadier flamer squad, and found 15 metal WW1 Germans that a friend gave me a few years ago (I dont remember getting 25 Napoleonic French infantry off her but they were in the same box, anybody need any metal Frenchies??) so I can save some pennies and use those as Conscripts, are they minimum 20 or 30 per unit though? Dont have access to the dex atm so I cant check.

After a quick check of what I have my army consists of -

You’re making great progress!

As you know I love my artillery, looking forward to seeing yours.

Was gonna get them primed tonight but I need a new rattle can, had a farts worth left in it. :(

Tomorrow I am off to get some black and white paint, a bag of cheap kitty litter and some pva glue, I think a nice ruined city is just what these boys need to fight over. Looks like Im gonna be up all night watching war films for ideas now. Yay movie and kebab night.  :D

Got a bit of painting done and finished building the command squad for the 666th

Grenadiers/Vets.

Looking great!

Very gritty.

Modelling wise I especially liked the command squad, the posing is really dynamic! They’ll look epic in your colour scheme!

I wasnt sure what I wanted to do with the Medic, I wanted something different than the Cadian holding toilet roll medic arms. The idea came to me when I was watching Sharpes Battle when Rifleman Perkins was stabbed by a traitor and he was begging for his mother and Harper was holding him telling him 'Your Mothers here lad, Mothers never leave you!'. Ngl first time I saw that episode with my mates we all ended up crying like babies at that bit. :laugh.:

If I do any more Medics I think this heckin good boi will be next. I want some of those flying Rats that poop everywhere as well instead of Servo Skulls. Hmmmm servo Pidgeon's for the win I think. :D

Paints are drying out so I still have a few bits to touch up eventually but got a Grenadier and two 'Deathriders' done.

So it turns out these are a thing?

miniart-38036-135-pigeons.jpg

s-l500.jpg

Looks like cyber pigeons is on the menu chaps. The bottom ones may be a bit too big but Ill hand wavium that as genetically vat grown pigeons or some such nonsense. Not sure if Ill have them following characters around in place of servo skulls or have them pooping over my objective markers to add a touch of humour into a grim looking army. Might mix both scales together and have giant spy pigeons with glowing red eyes trying to blend in with flocks of normal pigeons, why send scouts out to get shot at by snipers when you can send a homing bird with a camera strapped to its head to gather info instead. :D

The Deathriders are coming along.

The pigeons take me back to those old Dick Dastardly cartoons!

(Stop the pigeon, stomp the pigeon!)

Could you not use them as counts as vox casters?

Thats a good idea actually. Real Vox for the elites and Pigeons for the meatsacks!! You genius :D

The Deathriders are a smidge smaller than the Perry Napoleonics I was going to convert, but I only have 4 Perry horsie boys so I will use them as the command squad and the smaller ones will be the bog standard cav, was thinking of picking up a few more blisters because I miss metal minis.

and Stop the Pigeon was an epic cartoon. Ahh the good old days.

  • 2 months later...

Been away from the hobby the past few months due to real life distractions (women and bilateral hernia surgery), I feel like I have 1v1 Khorne himself and blocked every punch with my groin. But it has come to my attention that the Wargames Atlantic WW1 Frenchies will be released in Sept, and that has literally just sucked me back into my Guard army. Currently finishing off building another Vet squad for the 502nd using Les Grognard bodies I had laying about, I just need to finish basing them and straighten the barrel out for the heavy stubber then I can crack on with painting them.

As for the WW1 stuff, Im thinking two boxes of French and one of German to start, that will give me 100 meatsacks to bump up my 'Krieg' Vet squads to ten men, conscripts to whatever their min unit size is and the rest as bog standard infantry. Im gonna need to order in more grey paint as well I think.

We all know nobody ever finishes their Guard army... so it's less being dragged back in more returning to normal ;) Good to see you back and hobbying :tu:

  • 3 weeks later...

Grabbed some grey car primer from poundland, the black was ok for basecoats so hopefully the grey will work out fine, would save me a lot of time and tbh I am getting sick of painting grey all the time.
In other news I will be moving in about a week so wont be about as much until I get internet sorted. But I will keep working on my Guard so when I am back Ill hopefully have something worth showing. The WGA WW1 French are out soon, so I may return with a ton of infantry finished... :D
