Ork Updates & New Models - 9th Edition Discussion

Recommended Posts

I'm really excited about pretty much everything from the stream - I can see myself adding a good chunk of it to my existing boys.

What I can't get my head around, particularly having looked again at the detailed pics on Warcom, is what appears to be a lack of coherent approach to the ork design; individual minis, or even parts of the minis, appear to have been designed in isolation.

The heads in particular stand out to me - the wurrboy has very tidy, regular, weedy teef in what I'd consider to be a pretty traditional ork arrangement (tusks being lower incisors). Others have more irregularity, which is fine and there's a well-established precedent for this in the existing kits, but they look like the teeth are growing out of the jaws in a 'normal' way. Still others, though, have weird snaggle teeth that just point out at odd angles for no apparent reason.

I'm all for variety in the lads - I've put a good amount of effort into subtly tweaking my existing orks to vary the faces across my mobs - but it feels here that the styles are all over the place.

isnt regular and recurring design traits kinda the antithesis of how orks do things?

That looks like kommandos will get a lot more weapon options! I’m just painting five with the current armament now, so I guess I’ll be making more once I have the codex :D

I want the Snagga Box and the boss on the squig. I’m not sure about the big rig yet as I have other big models planned already.

Absolutely happy for that with the things orks wear, use otherwise make, albeit recognise that there are limits to that given the need for the minis to be mass produced.

Not so much when it comes to biological bits, apart from where they have been fiddled with by the dok!

So much hype for the trailer.

As a long time of and off blood axe ork player, being able to get snipers back since we lost the ability to loot squad loadouts with lootas many moons ago makes me so happy.

New koptas and sniper actually made me shout at the screen in excitement.

Need to crank out the painting now ready for when I can afford all the things I want

I’m very pleased to have new decals! I can’t wait to get the box. I think I want the mounted named character too. I don’t think I have room for the big rig.

I heard the currently resin models will be disappearing. That means…weirdboy? Grotsnik?….?

We'll see either this week or Saturday with review copies. Fingers crossed they don't!

generally, NDA lifts midnight the day preorders go live.

I assume this week will be warcom articles daily for the okrs

I hope we get kulture changes in the WarCom articles. Id like my evil sunz to keep their movement and assault weapon buff. Could use a better strat and relic though…

Having played since 1994 the rules come and go. It's the models that last. If you're happy with the models and your paintjobs that's what's important :)

Based on every other 9th Ed codex, I'm sure we'll be fine.

I have a feeling there will be a few changes. Half expecting Dakka Dakka and the Goff ability to just grant extra hits instead of attacks like everyone else's exploding 6s.

Death skulls will get a similar change so salamanders.

I'm hoping the blood axe one gets some love but we keep out 1cp infiltrate strat.

I'm interested in the snakebite one and how it interacts with the new snaggas, also if we get a mono clan bonus like the other factions do.

Not a fan of the wagon but it might grow on me. still not overly keen on the bigger squigs.

that said....

Great white squig I actually like a lot more than I thought I would.

Boyz are great as are the new Kommandos (I really want the new kill team but two 'new' horde armies at once is going to be too much for me so we'll see)

I may try and get the beast snaggas box and see how I feel models in hand for the squig stuff. I'd say I can always sell/trade the stuff I dont want but I won't - it all joins the pile of shame!!!

I know from playing Bad Moons that picking out 1s and 6s and rerolling slows the game way down. I’m expecting this to change; Death Guard seemingly lost the FNP rolls to speed the game up.

As someone who is poised to make a new Bad Moons army full of shoota boys, I’m keen to know what’s in store for them also. I’ll be doing Bad Moons regardless as I love the colour scheme but the rules might effect some of my build choices.

I'm hoping the blood axes trait gets some love as the 18" away part rarely helps, the fall back and shoot/charge is a fun trick for unexpecting people but overall feel lacking compared to deathskulls/evil sun's
