Ork Updates & New Models - 9th Edition Discussion

Due to the wording I think mek gunz will deploy as units and maybe stay as units now, it says about if there is more than one bubblechukka in a unit targeting the same unit roll all profiles before resolving any attacks.

Yup and I think it's both fair and sensible. I only have one traktor, one smasha and one bubble chukka. For those with 18 then I lack sympathy.

I wonder if buggy squadrons will operate as squadrons too based on this instead of going off on their own?

I think buggies might be fine as individuals due to footprint of a unit of 3 fitting in terrain being a problem, though they may make them 0-1 instead, deff dreads I imagine will be in the same boat.

I have 4 mek guns atm, one of each from conversion. I planned on having max 6 per clan barring Goffs who get none and badmoons who were getting 8/12(2 of each or maxed out units). But screw fielding more than 6 outside of 3k+ games.

Well... That's different anyway.

So. In my experiance dating back to third, granted this is not MATHHAMMER at all. 4 big shootas in a unit would hit put down 1 to 2 Space Marines each time they shot the swing going as high as 3 space Marines slain. that was with rolling 12 dice. I have wanted more big shootas as a mob upgrade, 3 in 30 just wasn't really enough, it seemed to me.
Now we have smaller tables, because lots of people are playing n the minimum sized recommended now. this new weapons profile of Dakka is a boon for sure. I wanted to shift to playing shoota orks so huzzah for shooty stuff. I agree the mek gunz read as units of more than 1 model now and I expect I will have to fielb no less than 2 Bubble chukkas to per unit. any unit including any bubble chukkas. Not sure how the shift to heavy and blast will work out for Orks except, I guess we'll just have to roll a lot of 6's to hit now with boys and maybe vehicles don't care because they are vehicles. Looks like a big change for Tank bustas but maybe they math and any reroll let them hold up, can't say. I'm not a maths guy.
I definitely see an interesting "separation of church and state" going on here.  Maybe it was always there but it sticks out more to me new.

So far for rules I like what I see but unit structure is also something I am wondering about. We know that if there's no model there are no rules. But now am wondering if the new Boys kit will include two special weapons, if not a third.  But I hope that reflects back to the unit data sheet, 2 special weapons per 10 models would make boys very very playable, and I could go for that. Heck, let me have more KMB's...  We want's them...

On a side note I finally saw the Orks trailer on youtube only this morning and like a lot of the models more from the video than I liked them, which I didn't like them much. from the other pictures GW has shown us so far. So maybe there's hope. Shoot me now.
Although my 6 deff dreads with big shootas just got a major boot in power I think. Sadly I am partly thinking about giving up on Boys for more grots. Maybe 90 to 120 grots + all the other stuff I like, no boys. Yuck that doesn't sound like a good time.

I am really looking forward to the new codex if not much else.

I don't think sympathy is needed. I own 12 in total but I could see people letting at least 6 or so go from their collections over the second hand markets. And that could be good for lots of Ork players. I really feel like GW's current direction is to encourage players to field at most two f the same choice or less but something from ever FoC slot. seems to me any way.

That and get players of every faction to spend 5 turns fishing for 4's, 5's and 6's. Even Space Marines.

I literally just glued together a smasha gun last night lol. Hope they keep it on par, but now I need to build a bubblechukka!

Well, you could swap them.

I'm not super excited about the new BC profile. Don't get me wrong I like it enough, can't end up with a ST 1 or 2 or 3 weapon. But I liked the random stats because my usual Scrumgrod couldn't predict what would happen and it made him worry. Which is amusing.  A d3 roll is probably going to average the second set of stats, 3 and 4 being I guess the average on a D6. so ya, bring 2 or 3 to get a bit of redundancy I guess. I think the Smasha Guns will still be good.

With how GW was dropping those SM combat patrol boxes i wonder if they will do the same for Orks.

Im building a Big Mek with KFF and I thought "Hang on, is this still a thing with the new codex?".

Was the rules for these Big Meks in war of the beast?

The rules for these are in the sags of the beast ot whatever its called with space wolves. Pre faq it was clan locked and worked in CC I'm half expecting that change to come back, as CC staying power is something we could really do with.

So now i see why Lydia Grant whose playing Orks in White Dwarfs Latest 40K "Tale of 4 warlords" went with a Bubblechukka, even though it did atrociously in all her earlier games...:tongue.:

(I would've naturally gone with a Smasha Gun as statistically it hits more often and more reliably). but her insider knowledge has certainly paid off hasn't it...

And I also noticed a part of her terrain for her army is part of the new stuff coming out...sneaky grot she is :laugh.: she is a real deffskull for sure!

Well spotted, you Da kunnin Ork!

So 90 grots it is then!

I'm not a fan only really useful agasint str 6/7 and str 7 against that the new things.

I get cutting down dice and re-rolls but marines etc gets re-rolls out of the wazoo.

I still and am hypes for the dex because its still going to be fun to play with, but this is starting to feel a little lacklustre with what we know so far rules wise.

It is effective against +1 to wound abilities, so it may come up more often than expected at first glance.

As for the rumored leaks, they've been spot on so far. But I would point out that most of it is stuff that changed between the last codex and this one. There's not a whole lot about what's new. I'd really advise to hold off getting down on the rumors yet.

What do you think the Crusade rules will bring? Is there anyway they could mimic the career of a boy to a nob to a boss to a warboss? Probably not but it would be cool!

Maybe there’d be a warboss to mega armoured warboss (warlord?) route.

The old way seemed more like a random happening to reflect the magical nature of waaagh and dakka.

 :yucky: :yucky:   That magical nonsinse ... Barf barf. You can have it as much as you want, barf barf.

So, I am again feeling that MSU Orks will be the way now. I have to learn to play that way but it could be good. I was thinking it might balance out things like Dakka and heavy/blast weapons as well as of course add to a nice interesting variety on the table.  So a few mods of 5, lootas, tank bustes and who knows, even burna boys in the mix just running around or what ever but with enough other units doing as much the same so to not mark them out as a priority target and I think this could work with the higher points costs, we'll see I guess. I'm starting to feel that more of everything will be better than leaning into redundancy.

I'm half way glad they made the Nauts Super Heavy, if that turns out to be true. But then I wish they would remove Imperial Knights from the game as well, but what do I know.

I'm working on building a "shopping list" but so far there's not much on it. While I don't like those snaggas or squig riders I do thing the named character, "oll' what's his name" on that huge squig looks cool. Sadly I don't use named characters.  I'm going to look for more grots for my WAAAGH if they don't go up in points to an unacceptable degree.

If I buy any of the new boys I'll use those as the snaggas foot mob I think.

As someone that prefers an Ork army to be a dread mob having the G/Morkanauts dumped into the lord of war slot is a terrible idea. Perhaps they will have increased the Stompa's points cost so high the unit actually ceased to exist in protest? I just hope the list building for Orks allows us to pick some diverse armies. Stuff like biker armies and Ork tanks would be fun themes as well.
