Primaris flyers are inevitable, but Thunderhawk size I would not be so sure of. Well, without knowing the sales on that giant primaris grav tank

Edit: Is that Astreus tank the only Forgeworld Primaris theres been?

It's a tricky one, since by now most of the Primaris battlefield roles have been filled and there seems no scope for additions.

Perhaps they'll switch things over time to allow more diversity (Intercessors getting the same weapon-option ability as a Tactical squad has) but if we see Primaris as a return to unit-specialisation as we had in the Heresy-era, then perhaps not even that is possible.

I do think we might get a Primaris flyer of some kind - maybe as a Primaris equivalent to a Stormtalon/Blacktalon or Xiphos Interceptor. Maybe even an enlarged Corvis but I think the only ground vehicles in need of 'Primaris-ising' are Heavy Support option such as a Vindicator-equivalent. Or a Whirlwind.

An Overlord flier could be something we see eventually, but I doubt it's big in their roadmap. Is there much value in that over just a Thunderhawk?

I would expect something like a Xiphon at some point. Maybe if they do the Xiphon in plastic for HH, they can just stick a heresy era pilot, a mk VII pilot and a primaris pilot on the sprue. That would be pretty simple to do.

I do think we'll see supplements this year probably with chapter specific minis. They've pretty much moved to a 3 year edition life cycle and I think year two makes a lot of sense for a chapter specific units, because you'd still have some space between that release and the new book that comes with 10th.

Granted GW is pushing out so much content that who really knows at this point.

It’d be awesome if infiltrators and Incursor sergeants could take melee weapons.

Yeah I agree but at the very least Reivers should get them as well. At this point they probably should get them the first because they've pretty much been the worst Primaris unit since release.

Yeah to my knowledge it is the only primaris release. I tend to think it would have a better chance of transitioning to plastic than us getting a plastic overlord I've only seen one thunderhawk in person and that model is big enough where it just isn't practical.

Okay, time for me to make a(nother) prediction on the circumstances of the next Primaris drop. SPOILER ALERT: This is basically a modified version of my "March battlebox" prediction.

The fact pattern:

1) The new Captain in Gravis Armor and Ancient models were revealed in full in December, suggesting those models will be out by March or so as GW simply isn't in the habit of showing new models in their entirety and then sitting on them for long stretches. Two to three months is about the longest duration between full reveal and pre-order, except for exceptions.

2) The Captain in Gravis Armor WAS hinted to be leading something.

3) The massive leak drop did NOT suggest any substantive Marines range expansion and those reveals seem to cover through the rest of this fiscal year (meaning through May).

4) The FIRST major expansion of the Primaris range was centered around the Vigilus campaign.

5) Vigilus is back, baby.

So I am hereby on record at this moment in saying that I think the Primaris models we have seen - Gravis Captain and Ancient - and those we have only heard Valrak's "whispers in the Warp" about - the Rocket Jocks and the new Melee Dread - will appear together in a limited-release box set where they form the thematic counterpart and followup to the VANGUARD Space Marines we saw in Shadowspear. These are the heavy boys (or, in the case of the rocketeers, the heavy WEAPONS boys).

What more appropriate force could there be for that new version of the Gravis Captain to command? And hopefully, in addition to what we've already seen and heard, we'll also get a three-man Gravis Close Support squad: Thunder Hammers and Storm Shields for everyone!

These are not the guys who start the battle (that would be the Vanguard).

They are the guys who FINISH the battle.

They are... the SPEARHEAD.

So I think they show up together in a box set, either as half of a battlebox or as an army box of their own. And they didn't show up in the leaks due to them either just appearing in a single box with a nebulous title where the leaker didn't have the inside track on the actual units within... or they'll show up right at the end of the fiscal year, right about where the leaks ran out so they simply weren't on the leaker's radar at the time he compiled his list. So I expect these models to be box-exclusive for three to six months.

But then, just like in 2019, I expect that during the NEXT fiscal year, we'll see the new Space Marines codex and updated supplements for the codex-compliant chapters.

And THAT is probably when we'll also see MPK Outriders and Suppressors, along with a couple of new surprises.

If I'm anywhere in the ballpark on this, I don't think we'll have long to wait. Again in a rerun of 2019, I think the box would be announced at LVO. And that's coming up in less than four weeks.

So place your bets, but keep in mind: I'm the same guy who was 100% wrong about the "Outrider" wave in 2020.

I think if there's another wave next year, the Gravis Captain and Ancient will be separate from them. I wouldn't be surprised to see those drop one-off when the T'au codex is released with Darkstrider for instance. I figure we'll see them sooner rather than later, and any supplements, etc. will likely be after the Eldar and Chaos Space Marine releases, while the Ancient/Captain will be before/during those.

Technically no, there were the Repulsor Doors for several chapters that came out in 2017. All oop now of course.
Maybe FW will do more Primaris stuff as it shifts to plastic but that could be a ways off

@Lord Nord late march is a possibility but therell need to be clear daylight between it and HH box. New Primaris Box wouldnt be all that limited I suspect

FW has been scaling down 40k in general in favor of the main studio, not just Primaris stuff.

I think in general, they have only really been releasing kits for their games (30k, ME, Necromunda, etc.).

An Overlord is large enough to air drop two Repulsors, I'm not sure we're ever going to see it in model form.

I’ve been reading the latest Dawn of Fire novel, Wolf Time and once again they talk about the Overlord flyer. I had it in my head that it was previously described as a large Corvus Blackstar but this new and recently published book describes it as a twin hulled Thunderhawk designed by Cawl and loaded with guns and missiles on its wings.

So I’m even more convinced it’s got to be coming in some form. Maybe alongside an update of Apocalypse? Or as a FW release? Maybe resin or maybe as a poster boy for the supposed FW switch to plastic? And perhaps that happens alongside the next major Primaris release?

Stratagem: Overlord [Keyword - Primaris]

For 1CP may deep strike up to 10 Tacticus or 6 Gravis Primaris, or a Repulsor, Gladiator, or Impulsor for 2 CP. This stratagem may be used twice pre-game.

. . . or something like that.

Has there been a credible rumour anywhere about Primaris Scouts or is that just wishlisting/guesswork thats grown legs?

Seeing it all over the place

Speaking as someone who's been banging that drum, I can say that no, I haven't personally seen any actual credible rumors. All of the speculation I've seen (and indulged in personally) has been informed by the Black Templars Neophytes and the new structure of Kill Team for which a Scouts box would seem to be a perfect fit. Very circumstantial evidence, well short of persuasive.

I still think it will happen in the next year or two (whether as a Kill Team set or not), but I wouldn't advise anyone betting more money on it than they can afford to lose.

Has there been a credible rumour anywhere about Primaris Scouts or is that just wishlisting/guesswork thats grown legs?

I haven't seen anything from any of the credible rumour mongers. Neophytes are pretty important to the Black Templar squad structure. Most of the roles Scouts fill in a Marine army are now handled by Phobos units. To add insult to injury, Scouts have been booted out of Troops and into Elites. I just don't see what Primaris Scouts would have to offer at this point.

Bolter Scouts > Infiltrators

Melee Scouts > Incursors

Sniper Scouts > Eliminators

This is my thinking too

And newby Primaris have units like Assault Intercessors and Inceptors they can slot into.

Think Wolves codex (or last one) says that about Inceptors, granted scouts were always veterans/elites for them

If they do a neophyte style Primaris unit, its either a low powered unit in crowded elite slot or same cheap troop problem as 8th ed scouts

A second wound (over regular scouts, not phobos) and shotguns

I find it crazy that so much of the BT upgrade sprue is given up to the shoguns. If they do release a new scout kit with shotguns, I’d be kinda annoyed if I was a BT player, when I could have had more swords or something.

Yes. Even so i want more body variety. Shotguns or no

Honestly another good indicator it isn’t on the cards, at least not any time soon

Well, a Vanguard-specific Army of Renown in the new campaign book doesn't NOT suggest that generic Primaris Scouts are imminent...

Hopefully they'll at least announce the contents of this season's Kill Team box at LVO because if Scouts are happening in conjunction with the Vanguard Spearheard rules, they'd be liable to appear first in that Kill Team set or else a full-on 40K battlebox that I still haven't given up on.

(I promise, if Primaris Scouts are NOT mentioned at LVO, I'll shut up about them until at least Warhammer Fest).
