I think the wheeled version makes it look a bit too much like a tractor, but at the same time, anti-grav is just over-used. There are plenty of other options they could have gone for that would have been far more unique - a more sensible look for wheels, a half-track, 2 wheels at the front and 1 at the back like a Polaris Slingshot, a big ball at the front and 2 anti-grav engines at the back like a brute chopper from Halo. The main body of the vehicle itself is decent, but the idea of more anti-grav is just...a bit boring?

The big bulky void armour on the pilot is also something that feels like it doesn't fit well.

The pilot also appears like she might have prosthetic or cybernetic feet. The ankles seem far too thin, as if it's the robotic version just covered over by clothing:

Which would mean there are multiple times we've seen them with robotic feet, the original reveal miniature had them and the artwork for that and this miniature all look like they might. I  get the impression they all might be like that, which would be a baffling design choice....

Saw this photoshop of a wheeled version on reddit earlier, much better than the hoverplates. Will be converting mine like that i think!

If that’s what we would have gotten my wallet would have been in big trouble.

I know there are people in both camps, understandably, you have people who have never seen squats(Votann) so are seeing something new through non judging eyes , and there are those who kinda want to see a flashback to years past where they have fond memories….

Converting for them is probably the way to go,

I’m quite happy so far but do think non GW paint jobs will make them all look better !!

You also have people who have seen Squats but still like the new design more. Not everyone was nostalgic for the biker gang army.

This.  When I heard people reminisce about Squats I did some searching for what these revered models looked like and found. . . well I found out why they were discontinued lol.

I get the appeal of the ridiculousness of dwarves on bikes.  I really do.  But there's just too many suspensions of disbelief even in-universe for those old models. I mean, I can kinda sorta work with trikes--even though they're a horrible, horrible design just based on physics and practicality alone, at least a dwarf could mount it.  The bikes?  Just lol.  Have any of you actually tried to mount a bike that's way too tall for you?

To me, the model looks like Hoggle from Labyrinth riding an electric shaver. Some people say it looks like a street sweeper.

That can be fixed easily enough by using a bearded head and swapping out the round coils for different plates. Conversion will be the name of the game.

Everybody keep in mind this is one model of a unit - I’m sure there will be more heads, and if it’s like other kits, there will probably be alternate heads as well.  The “Hoggle” female head is at least better proportioned than the actual Hoggle head.  :laugh.:

The grav plates it has aren’t my favorite visioning of the tech, however, it’s not any more laughable to me than the rotated flat tires of the Delorean from the Back to the Future series, or the same in Agents of SHIELD.  I don’t think the tires improve the design - they are more of a lateral adjustment than anything (and wouldn’t allow for any Fly rules that the trike might have).

I like the curved, but somewhat industrial, aspect of the armor/body styling - it’s cool to see a more organic (but not insectile/demonic) type combat equipment, as opposed to the blockiness of the Imperial war machines (even the grav-equipment of the Primaris).  Looking forward to seeing more of the Leagues!

In the broader context of the setting and game, I’d have preferred something other than hover-tech – wheels or even tracks, perhaps. That’s because flying machines are now used by so many factions that it encroaches on the high-tech feel of Eldar and Necrons.

In isolation, however, I certainly don’t mind the design. It’s a nice distinctive vehicle that straddles the not-Imperial-not-alien design space successfully to my eye. The rider looks cool, too. The coat over armour look gives a suitably practical and independent feel, while remaining sufficiently sci-fi and outlandish. The gun and pose are straight out of Terminator II, and have nice retro vibes.

Do I like the beardless head, or the fact that the rider’s female? Again, I like the idea that this practical-minded faction makes best use of their population – seems entirely fitting to me. I am hoping for some more beardy head options too, but as Bryan Blaire writes above, I’m sure there will be lots of options across the faction.

The previews we’ve had suffer a little from being quite limited and out of context – the bionic foot of the line soldier has implied to some that the whole range will have their feet replaced, for example – and I suspect many of the objections or reservations in this thread will evaporate when we get the whole picture.

I’m really excited about the return of the squats, and looking forward to more

Right, bit condescending to cast everybody who likes the new vision of them as noobs who don't remember the good old days. There are some of us who've been in the hobby since those days capable of holding an opinion that isn't "old=better".

I really hope the anti-grav stuff is limited to this vehicle because it's meant to be a fast scout that can go anywhere. I feel like having Land Trains, Gyrocopters, their main battle tank and everything else also be anti-grav wouldn't be as cool.

The originals did have hover boards and hover cars at least so it's not entirely new to them really.
