Majkhel
I, Majkhel of the Blood Angels, vow to complete one Intercession Squad Kill-Team of the (surprise!) Blood Angels, to be fully painted and based by the 31st January 2023, and to provide at least minimal fluff/background for them. May the Emperor curse me to darkness and ruination should I fail! A bare minimum (might be couple operatives more in the end) for the moment would be: - Intercessor Sergeant, Power Fist/ABR - Assault Intercessor Warrior - count-as Intercessor Gunner (upscaled Flamer Marine) - count-as Intercessor Warrior, SBR (Eliminator) - Intercessor Warrior, ABR (x2) For the glory of the Great Angel! Xin Ceithan
OK, I’ll bite… the eightfold Path seems to call and who am I to question the Primordial truth. I, Xin Ceithan, vow to complete one Kill Team of Heretic Astartes (6 Models minimum) to be fully painted and based by the 31st January 2023, and to provide at least minimal fluff/background for them. May the Pantheon curse me to darkness and ruination should I fail! These will be drawn for this box set, retrieved from the warp at great cost ( and some rummaging in my hobby cave): As to the nature of my Killteam, well... I am the Very model of Chaos Undecided My current ideas are something like this: WB Raksakaharu Sam’hyanaka- Keepers of Memories Templar style Order / Chapter that ventures into ruins, space hulks and civil service offices - you know, all the dangerous places where stuff is lost and forgotten for aeons. They eschew use of TDA because they are no KT rules for it, ahem, I mean, because they prove their dedication by facing the challenge while just using regular PA. Pro: Cult style Indians Jones shenanigans. Established colour scheme. Cons: Painting red (again) AL 7th Troop, 42 Fangs, Obsidian Coil Marine Commando style, black ops mission boarding specialist. Cross trained, other detachments cycle through unit for “active” combat tours in dangerous field operations. No nonsense. Vague and thankfully brief bios and descriptions. Osprey Publication wanted to feature them, but the author was found dead and all records were gone. Pros: Painting actual AL!! An excuse to make more references to everything from Mission Impossible to Zero Dark Thirty. No excuses needed for blurry photos. Cons: very vague and short character bios. Hedonistarii or similar slaaneshi themed piratical CSM warband. there is very little fluff here, that would allow a RT era feel of actually doing a small, original band of rascals instead of waging war on the galactic scale. War for fun and profit. Space Pirates. I wanted to paint something purple for some time now. Possible snake/ draconian theme since they ally with Heldrakes? Board Space Hulks for fun ( and possible loot) so different boarding teams/ warbands compete with each other during boarding for trophies and MVP bragging rights. Pros: Wicked colour schemes. Tie in with recent focus on boarding actions. SPACE PIRATES!! Cons: No idea what cross cultural / linguistic references to use for something like “Hedonistarii” Thoughts? Lysimachus
Ooh, all options with good potential! I think personally I like the third idea best, because this: 4 hours ago, Xin Ceithan said: would allow a RT era feel of actually doing a small, original band of rascals instead of waging war on the galactic scale. War for fun and profit. Space Pirates. sounds awesome! Could be fun with doing some of the new MkVI's in a RT style too... Edit: Admittedly, I may be biased in favour of pirates... but I guess these guys would be quite different from the Iron Gods as their motivation would be a lot more Slaaneshi 'doing crazy stuff for s and giggles' Edited October 9, 2022 by Lysimachus Xin Ceithan, Mazer Rackham and Rusted Boltgun 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/376138-knives-in-the-void-painting-challenge-2022/page/2/#findComment-5873724 Share on other sites

Currently, I am leaning very much in this direction - I’ll try to do a”proof of concept” to see if I can pull off my ideas for the intended colour scheme. And no - even Kill team Cutlass antics aside - the Iron Gods would probably be mistaken for a Black Templar successor chapter in comparison to what I have in mind here Lysimachus and Mazer Rackham 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/376138-knives-in-the-void-painting-challenge-2022/page/2/#findComment-5873735 Share on other sites

Mazer Rackham
++ INCOMING MESSAGE ++ "THE STRONG...ARE STRONGEST...ALONE" To: Satrap Julo Ignatius Karthago (Administratum Tithe Fleet VX542/11). From: System Defence Command/via Comms-buoy Relay #E/419-Subjunct/Huron/int.cede/230 Lord Karthago, you are in violation of sovereign Adeptus Astartes Territory. All these worlds belong to us, and their riches, the souls and the flesh of all who dwell upon them is in service to, and defended by, my warriors. This zone has been given over to the Maelstrom Warders in perpetuity by the High Lords, your masters for the purpose of the security of the Emperor's realm. Failure to remove yourself will be considered trespass, and an act of war. Your jealousy, greed and incompetence, do not concern us. These lands, paid for in the coin of sacrifice, are not yours to buy or to sell for profit out of spite. Choose wisely, Lugft Huron. Chapter Master Adeptus Astartes Astral Claws, Tyrant of Badab. ++++++++++++++ I, Mazer Rackham, loyal scion of Badab, Soldier of the Silver Legions, Oathsworn to the Throne of Thorns, vow to complete one Kill Team of Astral Claws Retaliators (6 Models minimum) to be fully painted and based by the 31st January 2023, and to provide at least minimal fluff/background for them. May the Administratum and Adeptus Terra chastise and censure me should I fail, which will be impossible, for Huron did nothing wrong. Spoiler Spoiler "And so it was, that the might of the Imperium, and the defiance of the Maelstrom Warders was set upon collision course, and the beating heart of Julo Karthago ripped from his pathetic chest after 14 hours of bloodletting and the ruination of the Tithe Fleet sent to Censure them all. The fate of the Lordling was sealed, when Kill Team Cerberus, a squad of the Tyrant's brutal Retaliators stormed it, slaughtering any and all in their path." m_r_parker
Ok, I'll give this a shot, sure... I, m_r_parker, vow to complete one Kill Team of the Word Bearers, to be fully painted and based by the 31st January 2023, and to provide at least minimal fluff/background for them. May a fluffy teddy bear curse me to darkness and ruination should I fail! With three months on my side, I might just be able to get this done. Seriously, I don't exactly have a great track record with getting projects done: I tend to get distracted by the shiny new releases, lose interest, think that I've messed up and want to start again - basically anything other than completing said project. As for a starting point, here is the box of Legionaries that I purchased today from the my local GW. My plan so far is as follows: Build the cool stuff Spoiler One thing that has been irking me of late is the deterioration of the Word Bearer paint scheme over the past couple of editions. It used to be a glorious burgundy colour, a pain to get the right hue but glorious none the less. Now it appears to be red with a silver trim, and I feel I'm confusing them for either World Eaters or Red Corsairs. Paint plan is to prime them with Leadbelcher, and then base coat the armour panels either Khorne Red or Barak-Nor Burgundy. Wish me luck, and good luck to everyone else! Galloway
Tossing my hat in the ring as well. Have had the idea of doing a bunch of kill teams for different warbands from the Abyssal Crusade, try out some new themes and schemes, and this event is a good push to get started. Will post initial picture or link in about two weeks once I'm done with some work travel, but will get my vow in now: I, Galloway, vow to complete one Kill Team of the Grey Death Heretic Astartes warband, to be fully painted and based by the 31st January 2023, and to provide at least minimal fluff/background for them. May the Grandfather curse me to happiness and health should I fail! Plan is to do some "Nurgle-y" chaos but not plague marines, mix in a bunch of old bits with the new bigger scale bodies and go for a bit of a retro feel, keeping with recent 35th anniversary celebration. Initial plan is to have (names subject to change): Covidiax, Herald of the Plague Unending (too on the nose?): Aspiring Champion with power maul and plasma pistol Vorbid Thrice-Blessed: Anointed Khaksek Boneblight: Gunner with flamer Vabrox Plaguebrace: Heavy Gunner with heavy bolter Gaozzux Blightreaper: Icon Bearer with bolter Rudraug Carriongaze: Warrior with bolt pistol and chainsword Thanks for organizing, and good luck to all the entrants- looks like some pretty cool stuff coming. Mazer Rackham
The Mazer Rackham Design Studio, in partnership with the Cabal of Dead Ink, presents: ++ KILL TEAM CERBERUS ++ "I know the Tyrant wanted you dead, but I just wanted you to shut up." Damok Sutris wrenched the powered head of his axe from the Fire Hawk's chest. The smile of the weapon dripped rich, Astartes blood, as it screeched free, parting the cleaved the tilt shield displaying the heraldry of a Knight Lieutenant. Sutris didn't care what his name was, nor his deeds. The fool had defied the Tyrant, with his prattle. The silver-and-blue Retaliators clustered, chainswords thick with clotting gore, combat shields dented and punched by bolt rounds, gouged by enemy weapons. Sutris spied his melta gunner hooking another skull to his left pauldron. Soon the flesh would crisp or slough off, and another victim would be chained to the Tyrant's Claw on his shoulder. Aurat noticed the Centurion's gaze, his poise betraying nothing. A cold one, that. Sutris smiled thinly under his gladiator helm. Udun had lost his combat shield before storming the bridge, a mistake which would force him to cover their rear. He would have put the luckless idiot in front to teach his compatriots a lesson, but Sutris needed every man now. Reports came in from across the ship, staffed as it was by Karthan Armsmen and Tech Thralls, it carried Astartes, a worthy foe - if a bitter one in the Fire Hawks. Sutris reflexively cursed them to the Warp, then thought better of it. Look out any window, he decided, and the Maelstrom is there, waiting for such careless talk. An explosion went off from a breaching charge, and Sutris hefted his axe, Corven, Ores and Pallar closing up to form the bulwark around him, Aurat tight-in to fire the meltagun at close range over their shoulders. It was how they were cutting through so quickly. A knot of armsmen breached the room, spilling inside like blood from a wound. Sutris filled his lungs, keyed his vox. "Retaliators! Kill me this rabble!" The axe smiled as it went to work. ++++++++++ The Kill Team is completed, and I, Mazer Rackham do plead my oath and vow to be discharged in the presence of my peers. May Huron judge my worthiness, and may our Seccesion be victorious. Front: Spoiler Side: Spoiler Rear: Spoiler I tried a few things out here, like the plasticard terrain (I didn't have the newfangled bases, so I tried to make something interesting. I tried some pigments as well for the rust, but I got the mix wrong, but I learned for the future. Cheers to everyone for the encouragement, and I hope this inspires everyone to try crazy stuff! Good luck all!
