Speaking of the Basilisks, the two that have their barrel horizontal somehow look like they actually were completely different vehicle compared to their brethren with guns at 20-40 degree angles. Like as if they were a tank destroyer or assault gun variant built on the Leman Russ chassis. Actually, a bit like the good old Destroyer tank hunter from the Forge World catalogue, though I think that had slightly beefier gun.

 

Plus a nice paint job, the orange details nicely contrast with the green hulls.

 

Cheers, the older models were certainly a part of the inspiration for these. Alongside real tanks and tankers in general, back in the force you'd get shouted at real quick for forgetting the camo-nets... :D

 

The Russ-Basilisk hull is certainly nice for tank destroyer designs, yes. I intend to build a few Destroyers from these hulls with individual barrels from titan turbolasers, so they'd be a bit slimmer than the neutron cannon armed Valdors that the LI range has, which are a tad too large for this.

Looking forward to seeing those Destroyers one day, whenever they get ready. Are you thinking of nicking the barrels from Reaver turbo-laser destroyer arms? Those are still quite sturdy looking. As for the Valdor, that vehicle certainly has a rather peculiar look (as do the other Malcador-derived vehicles).

 

Speaking of Leman Russ based assault guns, isn't the LI version of Medusa pretty close in look to the Thunderer assault gun? The Medusa barrel might be a bit longer, and Thunderer might have the gun mounted bit more to the fore, but the general look seems rather similar.

Pretty similar, yeah. The artillery-Russ hull just has that boxy rear portion that, personally, looks a bit too much like a moving target pinjata for anything meant to work as an assault gun :D

 

Not sure about the lasers yet, mainly I have a bunch of extras from AT Warhounds as turbolasers aren't too hot there. Not the only suitable thing in the bitz box, I guess. We'll see.

Taking a closer look at the titan sprues, the warhound turbo-lasers seem to be a better choice, as they have both barrels separate. With reaver arm, one of the barrels is separate while two are connected and thus would need to be cut from the middle to separate them, which would require careful touch.

 

As for Leman Russ Thunderer, I guess one could be quite easily built also from a regular plastic Russ and a hull-mounted demolisher cannon nicked from Malcador or Dracosan kit. With some amount of carving, filing and puttying the demolisher should fit to the turret front. Then make a new hull top superstructure from a piece of plasticard, add a hatch on top and maybe some camo-netting and stowage if you are not happy enough with the superstructure.

 

The easier alternative is not to build a Thunderer, and instead get a plain Leman Russ Demolisher, available straight as a kit and more practical on tabletop. Thunderer is one of those vehicles where you need to love the style to justify taking one to the tabletop instead of a regular demolisher, regardless of scale or rules.

Not entirely, for in EA the Guard tank corps (Minervan tank legion list) can use cheaper Thunderers and Conquerors to flood the board with durable hulls. Sometimes you just want the numbers and Thunderers can provide, while the heavy lifting gets done by the superheavy companies.

Casual AT18 today, Favilla's headlong charge paralyzed Ignatum into their deployment zone and prevented them from advancing on any of their objectives before being pummeled to death.

 

1850 points, Engine War scenario to control territory. The Fire Wasps wouldn't dare to move up in fear of two double-fisted Ferrox Reavers barreling down on them. By the time they had been dealt with and most of everything, engines and buildings included, had been blown sky high, it was way too late to salvage the situation.

Building some Ogryns and Sentinels for the Guard. I gave most big fellas some ranged weapons, repositioned some arms and left the missiles off the already bulkier Sentinels in favour of more usual stowage. I think I'm going to base the Ogryns one big boy per base escorted by regular infantry, they are pretty chunky.

That's a fair number of ogryns and sentinels (4 sprues worth by my counting).

 

Where did the big guns for the ogryns come from - are they simple spare pintle-mounted weapons left over from the vehicle kits, or something more elaborate?

I've got dozens of those sprues around, people didn't really care for the Auxilia at the time of the release. The fools!

The various guns are mostly sponson and hull guns from various vehicles, yeah.

Sticking small guys on the same base with ogryn really makes the big dude look big - especially when the small guys are sensibly trying to hide behind him!

 

And the stowage items bring nice variety to those sentinels.

I had been wondering what could be done with spare heavy weapons, and the best idea I had so far was bunker armaments. These fire support squads look quite inventive, though if I am not mistaken those lascannons look like they have been nicked from Tarantulas rather than Rapiers. Are you planning on also sticking some regular SA figures to the bases? Besides the normal lasrifles, there are some interesting ones in the command figures (vox operator and the officer with telescope), and tank commander figures could be placed so that they look like they are standing in a foxhole.

 

PS. Sherrypie, have you got any plans for the leftover missile launchers from the sentinels? Could those be stuck on terminators or dreadnoughts, or maybe also used for fire support stands?

The lascannons are from Tarantulas, yes. Same sprue, either way. There will be assistants, loaders and such added later, yeah.

 

No immediate plans for the hundred or so launchers, no. They're neat bits, I'm sure they'll land somewhere in due time.
