I have used Dark Communes from time to time this summer and I like them. They grant a surprising amount of durability to a large Cultist Squad. With Cultists, Dark Commune's movement and offensive buffs are meh, but their invulnerable save buff is great. They are not a flashy unit, but a solid support unit. 

 

I'd like to try a Dark Commune with a large 16-trooper Accursed Cultist Squad at some point. The infamous "AC/DC" combo would probably be lots of fun. And the Dark Commune's offensive buffs would probably do well in this setting.

 

At some point I want to try to re-create my old Nostroman 9th Renegades and Heretics Chaos Militia army (120 Cultists plus some Traitor Guard). So I'd replace my 3 old command squads and Renegade Commanders with 3 Dark Communes.

The Dark Commune is another Unit that I'd really, really love to have available to Thousand Sons.

 

The attacks the unit can put out are pretty decent for a Cultist unit and they've got a nice bundle of abilities in the unit.

 

They're fairly cheap too and definitely a lynchpin unit in a Chaos Cult army.
