Boc's 2025 WIP Thread (I'm told this is "blue" 3/8)

Gloss varnish applied on these guys, I'll be doing oil washes tomorrow. I think instead of the black I use on the Dark Angels, I'll try a umber (the darker one...) or a shadow brown + rust.

 

Now a question, since these are essentially my CSM 2.0. I've sold all of my pure Heresy stuff, but still have some SoH eye decals here and there on vindicators, Rhinos, and shoulders with some heads. Since I'm essentially an Abaddon simp anyways, should I just flip to Black Legion decals? I've got plenty SoH ones left but... I dunno, I hesitate to use them more.

 

 

The assassin will get black on him and rust on the panel thing. Before going onto eBay with the rest of my wretched loyalist creations.

 

 

 

 

Hoping the wash add definition to bile's face because I'm lazy and want to sham into only doing edge on his face 

 

 

Next 5-10 Legionaries are getting trim tomorrow and touch ups, hopefully I can get them to washes tomorrow.

As an alternative, have you thought about Payne's Grey?

Guilliman Flesh thinned with Contrast Medium works well ...

Eversor is all finished up. I've got second layer of washes on the Chaos Lord and Fabulous so they'll be finished up tomorrow.

I'm going to move away from the blood bases (at least try it) so I've got some new resin ones on order. But Fabius and the Lord are, for all intents and purposes, done.

 

 

 

I've also got the other Lord (no jump pack) and 5 legionaries at the final steps of their own, with gloss coat and decals applied. They'll get oiled up first thing in the morning.

 

To keep them a bit different from my DA swords, I used a red florescent here which I think looks pretty good.

I really like how Fabius' cloak and the lord's plasma pistol turned out

And finished up another Lord with 5x Legionaries.

I tried a red OSL on the lord's plasma... not really thinking about the giant red cloak not helping it stand out

I've sold all of my DA stuff om eBay, and have been looking for a bit of a change of pace to break up cranking up my CSM (and eventual Emperors Children). One of our local guys sold me a good chunk of Tyranids for super cheap, so I'm painting these up to sell. I'll never play nids, gross.

 

I've got two haruspex to kick off my first ever tyranid models. These were the worst thing I've ever had to prime. So, so many angles. And I've done a bunch of forgefiends and maulerfiends, and these were waaaaay worse. Or at least recent.

 

 

They're both in identical WIP stages at the moment. I'm lazy so I'm opting for Hive Fleet Behemoth since they're the same colors as my DA, just with blue edge highlighting instead of gray. 

 

Hooray originality!

 

Tomorrow I'll be gloss varnishing everything, taping then doing the black to gray scale on the chitin, and then taping then painting gray to white on the bones and apply skeleton horde contrast on top of that. 

 

Honestly I think this'll probably be faster than painting 5 Legionaries, large surfaces with pretty uniform coloring, no blinking lights or trim. Taping/silly puttying to separate colors I think will by far take the longest.

One of them I taped/puttied the red off before applying black, the other I said screw it and just tried to be careful lol

No, no I am not. Even with the little stripey things, not as bad as trim haha

 

Finished the first one up tonight, plan on finishing the other tomorrow. I think I'm going to dry brush that one instead of stripe, but we'll see. 

 

 

Also, fun fact. This whole time I thought I was doing behemoth colors. Hooray colorblindness!

After these guys, I'm getting back to cracking on the Legionaries. I did the silvers today, golds and cloth is tomorrow, hopefully maybe even get to decals.

 

I had my FLGS preorder me an Emperor's Children box so I'm in a rush to finish my regular CSM backlog haha

No, because that would be smart. And if I were smart, I wouldn't collect Warhammer.

 

Got the Emperor's Children Terminators assembled last night, primed, and the white plates done.

 

 

i used a neutral gray > light gray > white for the panels. Had some flow consistency issues on the white (used Proacryl Titanium White) but I think it'll cover up once I'm at the finishing touches.

 

 

 

The plan is for the helms, pauldrons, and the non-white leg plates to be purple (I bought some of the color scale purples from Army Painter, never used them before) with gold trim.

 

Optimistically I'll get the purples at the next paint session.

So I'd gone with these three purples, without checking with my non colorblind friends

 

 

Came out much lighter than I was thinking/hoping it would

 

 

The gold helped to separate it a good amount, and I'm hoping the washes add enough darkness to the purple.

 

 

I used Abteilung 502 Permanent Violet on the purple sections and (thanks to @Firedrake Cordova for the suggestion) Paynes Gray on everything else. Hopefully the stains are enough, but I'll be cleaning them in the morning.

i think I'll get the darker purple and try again tomorrow on another test model.

Picked up Alien Purple on Tuesday and refinished the purple plating, and I'm really liking the more vibrant color.

 

 

I've got the gold trim done on most of the remaining 9, so I'm hoping to finish the trim tomorrow, touch up from the airbrushing spills, and get the contrasts all down.

 

I'll be stopping after the first gloss varnish until the EC box set comes out since I need to wait for decals

Finished up all the trim on the Terminators and the last 10 legionaries I've got on the table, but also went with a big change of pace that I'll chomp through throughout next week.

I got some new paints in today from ProAcryl so the carapaces should be real Behemoth this time haha

Got the blues done today. Veeeery sloppy ob the edges but nothing a little touch up won't solve.
