Hierax

Hierax turned his helm to look over his shoulder at the brightly coloured devastator.

+Child’s play,+ he growled. He then shook his helm slightly in the negative and muttered, irritably, +Observe until ready.+

There was no telling how many of the aliens there were nearby – the depot could be positively crawling with them. And Hierax was not going to sell his life dearly or waste precious ammunition taking a pot shot at some insignificant greenskin for no strategic gain. Indiscriminate killing with no plan could see them all dead in moments, and there were clearly enemies both within and without who would like to see this kill-team eliminated.

The Weighstation:

It is precisely at that moment an explosion of glass erupts from the comptroller bubble facing in your direction, and an Ork Boy is forcibly defenestrated sans his noggin. Trailing blood and gristle-pulp, the unfortunate greenskin is cast down and slaps wetly in a crackle of shattering bone, onto one of the blasted wrecks he no doubt helped to create.

This is followed by a piercing whoop of joy from a human throat.

'Wooo! Come get some, cackmongers! I got lots to go around!'

The sounds of his fury go undimmed now the window is out. The gunfire is as fierce as the invective that compels it, although it is plagued at the edges by a fatalistic hysteria.

'Yeah! Eat my entire :cuss: you big green bastards!'

Another body falls out of a window facing the northern end of the bunker-plex. It is quite obvious he is blind to the grot sappers climbing the rigging.

Keys and Notes:

The metadata from the binharic data package advises as follows: GM: The angled pieces are hydraulic arms carrying power and air lines for tools and cutting gear, the grey track is a parts carousel which runs around and below the main ingress/egress platform. Dark grey squares with red boxes are hydraulic inspection bays for docking vehicles before inspections and repair are carried out. Black slats left and right on the sides are your doors in and out. Note this is a profile for the left-hand bunker, the right one is mirrored.

The objects on the conveyor are approximations of parts and lubricant ampoules, note that this a floor plan - not a current map.

First Floor:

Spoiler

Keys and notes:

GM: This is the first floor, displaying the cogitators and mechanicum gauge-devices and augurs, as well data storage for STC and mechanical build packages for myriad Imperial approved vehicles. A weighbridge is commonly used for the enforcement of lading limits and goods vehicle conditions as dictated by Martian and Imperial laws. Fines are dispensed for over-laden or poorly maintained vehicles - which of course can be negated by the immediate repair to standard for a much smaller fee. The green cogitators are noted as functional, the red, not.

Also on the schematic, are the lift to the ground floor (green square) and the stairwell symbol. On the left side the black square is roof access leading to the antenna array, and the orange square is the comptroller-altar/alcove where the Weighmaster would be in residence, computing tyre pressure variables and fines for a wonky exhaust.

The blue square is access to the Comptroller Tower, from whence the Machanicum Fabricator What's In Charge has his say.

Breaching charges perhaps, as the Salamander watched the grots climb. The orks would be alerted to the sound of gunfire but would perhaps attribute the lick of flame to simple malfunction, at least for a short moment. He weighed the possibility of scraping the smaller orkoids and their master from the tower against the distance and time required for the task - for if there were survivors within speed was of more value than stealth.

Comptroller Blister:

The Gretchin with the satchel clings onto the antenna with his legs as he faffs about with the bag. He reaches inside it, and black smoke suddenly starts to billow from the satchel. He passes it up the grot ahead of him, who, panicking throws it up to the next grot in a exceptionally dangerous mimicry of pass-the-parcel - each subsequent recipient becoming more agitated and cantankerous than the last.

D100: ...?

Finally the grot furthest up hurls the device at the blister's now open window, but at the last second he fumbles it, and the bomb tumbles away to smack into the comms antenna the grots are all clinging to. They shriek as it goes off, tearing a massive chunk of metal from their perch, and the blister itself. With a long groaning sigh, the antenna tips, and one of the grots manages to save himself from the terrible plunge as the other drop onto the ground below, bouncing in ragdoll aplomb before literally eating dirt.

The signal from the facility wanes drastically, but does not cease. It is highly likely the signal is now being maintained on only local transceiver.

After a few heartbeats, the foul-mouthed human blister occupant appears, wielding what appears to be a large angle-poise lamp.

'THIS...IS...MY...HOUSE!' He bawls at the grot. The lamp thunders down with each word, until the final imprecation accompanies the wretched lemming-creature being well and truly brained.

At the plummet of his latest victim, he throws the lamp out after it.

'And don't come back!' It is not certain if he refers to the lamp or the xenos.

He disappears.

When the immediate dust settles, the access hatch on the roof opens, and the Ork Runtherd peers out, piggish face contorted in confusion. He drops back down, and ten seconds pass before a small troop of Tankbustas emerge, pointing their Orky rokkit-guns up at the blister.

Whilst the man's courage (and profanity) may be limitless, it appears his time just ran out.

Hierax

Hierax scowled at the scene as it unfolded before him. He could have taken the shot. Should he have…?

The emergence of additional aliens, these armed with what looked like anti-tank weaponry, only confirmed that his inaction had perhaps been somewhat prudent, allowing the kill-team to remain undetected for the time being. However, if they did not act quickly, additional damage would be done to the structure.

+More hostiles. Roof. Anti-armour weaponry,+ he murmured again over the vox, as was his wont. +Orders, Deathwatch?+

The Raptor hoped the largely silent Ordo Xenos veteran sergeant would take the yoke of command soon and give them some direction, or, barring that, stay out of the way. They could certainly blast apart these orks on their own initiative but they were in an exposed position and, as of yet, not in an offensive posture.

There are no solutions to the equations of war, only trade-offs.

Incario:

The Celebrant grinned. With Orkoid heavy weapons present, avoiding collateral damage had become a moot point. Better that the tower was destroyed along with the greenskins by the Astartes’ firepower, rather than leaving the beasts alive to fire their crude launchers.

+I say we cut them down!+

He raised the heavy bolter, lining up against the first Tankbusta, but waited to see if Hierax’ request for orders would be answered.

"Indeed, engage". Uldyssian had not paused in his advance, surprised that the once eager astartes hesitated now. Perhaps unsure as to the risk of the weighstation collapsing or igniting under fire with civilians within as there would no doubt be promethium stores here vulnerable to explosives and heavy weapons fire.

Enkush:

Your distraction gains traction. The Orks may not be wise to many things, but they know a challenge when they hear it. They stop to peer out into the darkness, and spot your bike as the bright heraldry catches in the firelight. The Boss of the clutch slaps heads and they fire quickly - and excitedly - loose Rokkits into the dark, after your bike, while hollering and calling. There is no quiet avenue for withdrawal now.

Rokkits:

Attacks:

1: MISS

2: MISS

The warheads detonate sand and shale, as they slam into the crater lip, spraying debris in a torrent, accompanied by thick, choking smoke from the debased fyceline explosive the Orks have...'refined'.

GM: The ebb and flow of this battle will be varied, increasing in scale as the actions you take dictate it.

GM: Maps are up, I will declare the following:

  • Leyuun will drive the Rhino and the Inquisitor to a safe distance, but somewhere you can exfil to if need be (30m from the perimeter).
  • Dark is beginning to wane. Ballistic Tests are at -10 for Creatures without Dark Sight.
  • There is no Surprise Round (Enkush has been spotted).
  • You are 30m from the nearest wall, the perimeter fence is no hindrance, you can just narratively heave it out of the way, it provides no cover.
  • Buildings are Ferrocrete, so the low parapet around the Orks provides 8 AP to Legs and Body. There is sufficient cover to protect the Horde.

Hierax

The Storm Lord roared past the rest of the kill-team on his attack bike, drawing the ire of the heavily armed savages, who ineffectually assailed the outrider with a fusilade of poorly constructed explosives. Hierax wordlessly released Whisper to clatter upon his plastron cradled by its chest rig, and drew and fired his boltgun up at the distracted aliens without waiting for further direction or discussion, or offering any of his own.

No orders were necessary; they all held the reaper’s scythe well in hand. Battle would be joined by the others in due course. Causality dictated it.

The nuzzle flashes from his boltgun briefly and intermittently illuminated his pointed helm within its cowl with a hateful intensity in the nascent pre-dawn gloom.

Hierax:

GM OOC: I think you're channeling your old Dreadnought there, SAB is a Full Action in DW, and RF doesn't generate extra Hits, so it's 3 Hits due to Size (+20).

The Orks are suddenly assailed by Bolt shells, felling three of them as the Ferrocrete breaks apart in a spall, and the explosive warheads burst flesh. Contrary to all sapient  sense, they cruelly laugh and bawl at the unfortunate brutes who are slain, yammering excitedly to get into position to retaliate.

Wrecked vehicles.

Enemies all around.

Bullets flying past.

It reminded Nolites a bit of home. The cover was a bit worse here. If some Mechanium doo dads got damaged what of it. They had shown their true colours after Badab. Maybe it was time to make some cover of our own.

Kur-Dawa

From the percussion of explosions and the rat tat tat of bolter fire he knew the others had engaged the Orks atop the building. More orks were likely to spill out of the building once they realised that a new front had open up, thinking perhaps that the outside would be a better fight than the engagement against the entrenched Adeptus Mechanicus defenders. If the team played it right they could catch the greenskins in a pincer.

As he was on one flank he kept quiet for now, attention would be drawn to over there and he should use the time to find a suitable position. Dismounting and concealing the bike in a nearby sand drift, it would be ill suited to a dense environment engagement like the outpost.

Concealment of Bike

Ag:61

d100: 83, I guess the bike is not as well hidden as Kur-Dawa thought it was, let’s hope there are no looting greenskins in the vicinity.
