Oh well, guess I can still use crucible rules for the rest (once I get to converting some. (thinking of putting the Techmarine on an atv with a real big servo arm)

Regular ol' Champ doesn't have rules anymore and is stuck with Company Heroes. Thanks for reminding me about that.

New battlewagon, trukk, lootas and bikes could be a lot of fun. Considering design philosophy shared in the round tables, it's very promising.

Nazdreg very long overdue and it'll be interesting to see his update.

For expanding the Leviathan/ Armageddon marines I'd be down for a vet dread. As it stands I'll be looking at a brutalis with yellow melta muzzles. It's too iconic (ancient?) not to do.

I'm excited to see the Venerable Redemptor. With enough weapon options it could round-out the revamped Dreadnoughts.

It's probably the only new Marine unit I would purchase day one. I'm an Imperial Fist at heart, with a newly forming Ultramarine army, and I'm not really a fan of Jump Marines or Bikers.

Seeing as all the new dreads and even the Invictor share the same chassis, I wouldn't mind this VenDread just have all the previous options plus some extras as a form of consolidation. Basically the CoC dreadnought turned up to 11.

Probably helps that they have all the same arm socket anyway so swapping arms around isn't even implausible.

That would be pretty nice. I wouldn't mind if it ditches the more specialist options of the Brutalis but if it's essentially a bigger Castraferrum I'd be down for that. Personally I'd love it if they supplemented its armament with a quad heavy bolter, a big melta weapon of some form and a twin-linked autocannon as options for the main gun on the right arm; then we'd have the entire classic Dreadnought gun selection available.

I'm also hoping it has as much visual customization as the current Venerable Dreadnought kit. Especially sarcophagus options, and the choice between a Mk. IV style recessed helmet or the Mk. V style tomb. And whilst it's probably pure cope on my part I'm praying the design gets slightly tweaked to make the shape of the torso a bit less...nasal. As is, the stock Redemptor looks like if this guy sprouted arms and legs...

How does a Redemptor become "venerable" anyway?

Is is like the Top Gear meme with two techmarines looking at a 5,000-year-old dreadnought chassis like "this is venerable, yes, but I like this one." *points at squeaky clean brand new Redemptor chassis*

Yeah, the idea of Sisters of Battle cavalry is... underwhelming. I wish they would come up with something more original than just giving every army a variant of the same unit, in this case cavalry, we had the same thing with the nundams that just didn't match the overall flavour of the army. It feels like by the numbers army design and lacking in any originality. Give me kamakazi cherubs and a tank with a choir of sonic equipped sisters riding on top, a siege tower super heavy on tracks shaped like a steeple. You can go crazy with Sisters as the representatives of the nuttier side of the Imperium. Instead we get 'Sisters mechs, sisters shield unit, sisters scouts, sisters cavalry'. Out of all the new units we've received since the range reboot the only was that's captured my imagination is the goated Triumph of St Kat. The new Superior in the walking chair is also great but it's more of a reimaginging of the old Inquisitor Karamazarazavov model than something completely new.

Is the chassis or the marine inside that warrants the "venerable" in venerable dread? I always assumed they gave marines of a higher rank the nicer fancier chassis as they were wiser/more experienced/more revered, which is why they used to have that re-roll aura and better BS/WS. Suppose the chassis itself is pretty important too though?

The hero inside is more legendary and the chassis is built to a higher standard to honour him?

"Still. Could be worse...And then it was!"

Camera pans to Invictor utterly failing at sneaking up behind Eldar lines, who are too busy splitting their sides laughing at Brother May's noisy, stubber-encrusted "stealth walker" to end his humiliation with a well-placed shuriken though the rollcage.

"Oh, cock."

Ahem.

The best arguments I can see for Venerable Redemptors are either them either having served long enough without burning out their occupant that they've become an actual veteran (somewhat unlikely but possible), the machine itself having served for a long time even if it's gotten through multiple pilots (suitably grimdark but missing the point a bit), or an older Dreadnought's chassis having been irreparably crippled but the Astartes within being unharmed, so the sarcophagus is transferred to a newer, suitably decorated hull (my favourite option as the hero in question is a genuine, ancient veteran and bits of his previous tomb are retained on his new body, Ship of Theseus style).

Regular champion also got a small revive in the Crucible of Champions ruleset, where it is the default skew for non-Librarian non-Dread characters. I found giving them the Rites of Battle ability but only using it for heroic interventions sells the idea quite well.

Or maybe Company Heroes on bike...

I think it is both. The hero is legendary, so he gets the venerable chassis, because the older stuff is the best and most revered, which means the hero is worthy of being interred within it.

Exactly this. This kinda bonkers stuff is what makes 40k 40k. I feel like that is what has been missing for quite a while in the 40k designs.

Good point! I think the actual 'base' of the dreadnought would have to significantly change to reflect that, maybe to something a bit older "30k" esc? Be interesting to see if they change it significantly or just cover it in purity seals and some engravings.

Just like a Captain has a fancy, dressed-up armour and nice weapons, I imagine that a legendary hero can be gifted a more impressive Dreadnought chassis.

I can imagine some more "well made" Redemptor chassis that have unique weapon configurations and more visual appointments.

Generally speaking Venerable Dreads have had superior Ballistic and Weapon Skill as opposed to better armour or more durability, so it seems to be more of a reflection of the warrior inside.

What if the 'horse' was something like a mix between an arcoflagellant and an AdMech Serberys?

I feel like Sister models (specifically Sisters, not everything in their Codex) have a well defined aesthetic. I just can’t imagine how to make cavalry fit into Cathedral-chique.

Every member of the squad gets their own anti-grav pulpit to ride around in

Whilst I would prefer SoB bikers over cavalry, the cavalry actually fits their look really well. They have a lot of knightly design language, so obviously cavalry works. The reason I'd prefer bikes, is that cavalry is a bit too on the nose.

The Sisters cavalry will be some some Repentia in pony-play gear being ridden into battle by some Battle Sisters.  100% on-theme.

My hope/vision for the Venerable Dread is the above "ship of theseus" style Dreadnought.  In a way, something not too different from how they're mixing in some of the armor marks from old kits into the new Intercessors/Grey Hunters/Blood Claws.  Mix a little Castraferrum into the Redemptor.  Give us some Redemptor legs, Castraferrum sarcophagus, and some crazy weapon options (like giant shields and melee weapons like the Custards and Wolves get).  Toss in a grav bombard or something crazy, give us the greatest hits from Saturnine, Leviathan, and the Contemptor as weapon options.  GW promised point costs for different weapon options coming back with 11th ed, so go ahead and push it with a wide variety of weapons for the Venerable Dread.

I think cavalry would be a big miss for their aesthetic. Part of their aesthetic is how they use mechanized transportation like tanks in contrast with their nunnery/church background. In my opinion, biker nuns fit that aesthetic better than horseback nuns. (First thing that comes to mind are those cool bikes they had in the Priest movie adaptation.)
