I knew I had seen the Storm Raven I bought on E-bay somewhere before! Sadly the Koyote mk.I was removed from the back of my car along with a new pair of running shoes. :)

So if anyone sees it floating around the Washington DC/Baltimore/NVa area please beat the living daylights out of the bastard using it. But only if the swine is wearing a shiny new pair of New Balance 1012s. :D :P

Brother Dan'l that is AWFUL. Id suggest posting a full message on in Amicus with pics (availble in this thread) !

Also, do the same on Dakka, Warseer and Heresy.

You can get it out to enough people that it will be VERY easily identifiable.

Brother Sergeant Augustus, 3rd Squad, 3rd Company

The panoply of Sergeant Augustus is considerably more ornate than that of his squad mates, but I feel that this is justified by the most current Blood Angel fluff. According to the description of Blood Angel Tactical squads (p.24), the seniority and authority of sergeants of Tactical squads is second only to that of their Company Captain. So naturally, with more experience and seniority comes more battle honors and better equipment. And thus this justifies Brother Sergeant Augustus' extra dose of bling. :)

Koyote,

Your painting is incredible. That's an awesome shade of red. Would you mind telling me the paints you use to match that color?

RECIPE:

1) base coat of white primer

2) 2-3 coats of Blood Red

- thinned with a little water to produce a smooth finish

3) 2-3 coats of GW Red Ink (which apparently isn't available anymore)

- applied generously, but be careful not to let it pool on flat surfaces, otherwise it will leave rings when it dries

4) 1 coat of Red Ink mixed with a little Brown Ink

- 6 to 1 + a little water

- focus on the recesses of the model; this provides shading and a slightly dirty look

- be careful not to let it pool on flat surfaces, otherwise it will leave rings when it dries

- you may have to add a second coat to areas that are not dark enough

- careful that you don't add too much or the finished result will be too dark

- let the last coat dry completely before deciding to add a second coat

5) This will leave you with a very shiny red model, so after you have finished painting the rest of the model, apply a light coat of matte varnish

- I use the GW spray matte varnish

Sadly, my recipe for red does not look so good on large, flat surfaces. Also, the recipe requires a coat of matte finish, which if applied to the entire model produces both good and bad effects on the other colors. You can, however, spray it into a receptacle and apply it to the red areas with a brush.

Brother Aquila, Sanguinary Priest

I intentionally left the saltire on the backpack. By painting it white and red as opposed to black and red, it both represents the Sanguinary Priest's connection to the Death Company and distinguishes that relationship as different from that of the Chaplain.

I am not happy with the photos, but they will have to do for now. The (Shadow Grey) shading actually appears darker than it does in the photo. Also, the white in the photo looks like it is glowing -it's not so brilliant in real life. I may have to re-shoot the model using a different light source at a later date.

Nobody has commented on the black eyes, so I will. ;)

The idea to go with the black eyes came to me while listening to Seth Grahame-Smith's audio book, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. As in many other modern tellings of the vampire myth, when Graeme-Smith's antagonists vamp-out, they transform from normal looking humans into monsters with solid black eyes and gnashing fangs. So naturally, I thought what better way to represent Librarian Calistarius' terrible and mysterious transformation (and crazy stat line) than through the windows into his soul...

I do like the black eyes... reminds me of that true blood show. Can we get a close up?

Also - have you ever tried using Red Ink in an airbrush? ...after seeing how beautiful and vibrant your troops are I want to hit mine with some Ink. I could pretty much do my whole army up real quick with the airbrush... but I've never put just straight ink in it before, and I'm unsure as to the results I may get.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words.

I am pleased with how Meph turned out. I figure that with as much havoc the Lord of Death wreaks on the battlefield he ought to be represented by a correspondingly impressive model. ;)

Nope. I have never used an airbrush.

If you decide to use red ink, be mindful that it produces a shiny finish, which is good for certain details, but may not be so good overall. As noted above, my solution to the shiny finish is matte spray varnish, but matte varnish comes with its own positives and negatives. If you go with the inks, I'd recommend experimenting on a model or two before dousing the entire army. Good luck. :D
