Nurglespawn
DV8, i love your MoS so far, can't wait to see it finished! :D there's just one problem... now, as the censer is going to be 'blowing in the wind', that [in all sense of physics] means that thare be a pretty strong wind 'a blowin', if it can move a skull on the end of a heavy chain that being the case, in all sense, the chains around the MoS' waist should be swaying aswell, as they are most likely a lot lighter than the censer chain... now feel free to put a bolter round through my head for saying this, but it doesn't make logical sense HOWEVER, i'm sure that the only people to notice such a thing would be the science geeks suck as myself :) so i'm not pressing you to change it, as it does make the figure a lot more dynamic :P for all i know, once it's been assembled the pose will cancel out the 'physics' of the matter, so... yeah :) anywho, can't wait to see the finished product, N.S. DV8
Updates from last night. Couldn't seem to connect to B&C. Not much work done over the weekend. Spent most of today working on the cape, freehand and the gems. The left arm received final blends, battle damage, and the highlights. I've also glued the left arm down as everything that the arm covers up is all painted. The right arm still requires much more work before i can glue it on (mostly the metallics). I really don't feel like typing to that ends this post. Comments and criticisms are mcuh appreciated. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/mybrain/Chaplain%20Vardemis/body.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/mybrain/Chaplain%20Vardemis/freehand.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/mybrain/Chaplain%20Vardemis/gems.jpg DV8 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/85479-master-of-sanctity-vardemis/page/3/#findComment-1002094 Share on other sites
Aidan
I look foreward to seeing this model in White Dwarf after you win. Wow. You nailed the skull perfectly. The the cape goes without saying as being awesome. Artimis Vergadin
Wow, amazing! My favorite part has to be the cape! The purple is so rich! Question on the purity seals: Did you want that purple tint in there? Try basing it with dark flesh, and working your way up by adding blood red to the mixture. More of a "true" red. If I don't see this in Golden Demon online, I'm personally gonna go kick the judges @$$' Artimis Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/85479-master-of-sanctity-vardemis/page/3/#findComment-1002120 Share on other sites

Chronophague
Now that is a nice cape, spectacular freehand I must say. Intresting to see how the whole model will work out. DV8
The purple's pretty simple. Basecoat Liche Purple. Dilute and apply several layers to get a smooth, even coat. Progressively add Bleached Bone and lots of water and slowly glaze up until you achieve the desired brightness. Hit up the recesses with Liche Purple and a bit of Chaos Black (and lots of water). The glazes are about the consistency of milk. A single glaze will not have a noticable effect, but 10 or 20 will. The purple on the cloak has at least 60 or 70. Damocles
Very good progress, but still a few things that keep it from being a total Demon winner. One thing, I'd tone down the source lighting. Just a tad. Right now it seems to glow too far on the cheekbones of the skull. Even if that's how it would be, it doesn't look too great. It's better to have minimal glow. Another thing - the white. The skull looks great, but the winged skull on the chest needs more blending and transitions. Right now there's not enough contrast, it kind of blurs together. Also try to put more attention on the other white parts of the model. DV8
Attached the censer arm (which is pretty much done, barring the metallics on the chain and hand). I've also done the iconographic shoulderpad, and I'm VERY happy with how the yellow turned out (almost makes me want to paint some more yellow marines). I've started the left shoulderpad, but still not completely done (the Crux Terminatus will match the bone/white on the rest of the model). You can even see the scarring my grip has done to the Crozius head. If the white needs more work, I'll do it after I've done all the white on the model (so I can correct them all at once). http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/mybrain/Chaplain%20Vardemis/body5.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/mybrain/Chaplain%20Vardemis/body6.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/mybrain/Chaplain%20Vardemis/leftarm.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/mybrain/Chaplain%20Vardemis/shoulderpad.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y42/mybrain/Chaplain%20Vardemis/shield1.jpg Edit: Forgot to post a picture of the heraldry shield so far. Brother apocalyptic
Is there anything that can be said about this model? No, not from me at least.. that is one splendid model.. Cpt_Tiberius
Wow... Um, wow... This is looking really well done so far. The freehand is very well done and the chapter badge looks amazing, at least what you can see of it. What is the yellow recipe you used? FaeLi-N
Well, whenever anyone considers a work of mine to a high enough standard that they comment "stolen", I'm never certain what they actually mean... Now I do. While I think the eye glow has been slightly exaggerated, i think the model is better for it..."menace". The pose is excellent, the majority of painting to an extremely high standard, only gripe I have (and it's no judgement of YOU) is that the cloak shape is a bit crappy, but that's the model, I can completely understand you wanting to avoid the bother of extending or alerting it (although you obviously have the l33t skillz). Various things impress me greatly, now to go and whip up some competition.... :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/85479-master-of-sanctity-vardemis/page/3/#findComment-1002794 Share on other sites
shuriken
there's a mistake which needs correcting on the belt buckle, seems you got a bit of metalics on the black background, take a close look at the pictures. Otherwise, grood job. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/85479-master-of-sanctity-vardemis/page/3/#findComment-1002805 Share on other sites
magnum_opera
I absolutely love your work here. Great paint job, great converting... Only thing I don't like is the swinging censor... It might be cooler to have the skull on the bottom facing front, rather than to the side. Don't forget to add flames to it! All that's really left though is detailing... DV8
The yellow is very simple: 50/50 Snakebite Leather/Vomit Brown basecoat. Vomit Brown glaze (5 or 6 coats) 50/50 Vomit Brown/Golden Yellow (5 or 6 coats) Golden Yellow glaze (3 or 4 coats here...you don't want it to be completely yellow) Snakebite Leather glaze for shadows (7 to 10 coats here) Final Golden Yellow glaze to blend transitions and hit up final highlight tones (2 or 3 coats here) Apart from the last two glazes, where the mix should be about 1 part paint to 10 parts water, the rest should be about 1:1 paint to water. Aye I hadn't even noticed the bit of overpaint on the buckle... DV8 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/85479-master-of-sanctity-vardemis/page/3/#findComment-1002897 Share on other sites
