mr tough guy
Glad you're back at it, love everything you've done with your fists so far. Can't wait to see your landspeeders though, I love those old models (and really hate the current ones) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/96447-imperial-fists-heresy-era-army/page/8/#findComment-2073517 Share on other sites
Daeothar
Update on Sigismund. Painting is almost halfway and contrary to my normal procedure, I've foregone some large areas and did some details as I'm as yet undecided on how to proceed with them. In the original fluff that came with this mini, Sigismund wore black armour but it says nothing about his robe/tabard. Just that he was uneasy about covering his suit of armour in another colour, afraid to anger its machine spirit (something that has been retconned by now; at the time, no such beliefs were adhered to by any (loyal) Space Marine legion). And there lies the crux *sic* of the matter: do I leave the robe black also, or do I do it up in another colour? When left black, the armour and the robes would be both black but highlighted along a different path, to show them as different materials. The armour would be highlighted with blue, whilst the cloth would be highlighted with brown. Other options are making the cloth yellow or white. When one of these options is chosen, the armour highlight might shift too, although I really like the blue highlights. Second item I have no clue about is the laurel wreath on his helmet; white, gold or silver? Third one (yes; I keep going) is the single frag grenade on his belt: red, boltgun, blue or grey? Pics are lousy; blame it on my abysmal photography skills, but trust me when I say this guy looks better in real life... http://www.fierylions.nl/Pictures/ForumPictures/ImperialFistsArmy/Sigismund/Sigismund%20WIP3.jpg http://www.fierylions.nl/Pictures/ForumPictures/ImperialFistsArmy/Sigismund/Sigismund%20WIP4.jpg http://www.fierylions.nl/Pictures/ForumPictures/ImperialFistsArmy/Sigismund/Sigismund%20WIP5.jpg Gloves and holster will be brown or black, highlighted with brown. Sword, as per the fluff will be black also. I do want to do some funky glowing effect there, but haven't really thought about what and how yet. I really like the idea he's so black all over but I fear the details will be lost when on the table; subtleties are best left for the display cabinet maybe. What do you think? Iron Phoenix
i think leman russ made it back in time to help the dying emperor...and he does have a crappy old model...but i'm not sure. i'd be amazed if there was only 1 model from that battle but i guess people love converting! i generally dislike the old RT models and really anything before 3rd edition but man, you're making these look fastastic. very little else to add. very nice yellow you've built up :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/96447-imperial-fists-heresy-era-army/page/8/#findComment-2074805 Share on other sites
Daeothar
And another tardy update... I went ahead and took the blue aproach on the armour, like I did before on another chaplain and I like the result. I'm still undecided on the tabard though, which is why I deviated from my normal painting pattern and did the details and smaller areas before taking on the tabard. I still think black looks good, but maybe yellow or white might set him off extra; I really don't know. As it is, I need to paint his sole handgrenade, and it will be red. Also, the blade needs more than an undercoat. Fluff says it's black too, but I want to show that this is in fact a powersword. But how? Suggestions? Answering a question I got earlier on the word on his shoulderpad; it says 'pugnus'; Latin for 'fist'. Because at this stage, Sigismund is still an Imperial Fist! http://www.fierylions.nl/Pictures/ForumPictures/ImperialFistsArmy/Sigismund/Sigismund%20WIP6.jpg http://www.fierylions.nl/Pictures/ForumPictures/ImperialFistsArmy/Sigismund/Sigismund%20WIP7.jpg As can be witnessed from the pictures, I also added a banner to his backpack (which still needs its paintwork cleaned up). Only when I used my new bottle of VMC Black to undercoat it, did I find out it was actually Gloss Black. So, till I get to doing up the banner and get it Dullcoted, it will look like he's flying a garbage bag... :P Btw, Iron Phoenix; Russ and the Lion came too late. When they arrived at Terra, Horus was already dead and the Emperor down. There is a Russ model indeed, but he wasn't there. To my knowledge, no other Heresy Era miniature other than Sigismund was ever released (by GW)... Daeothar
And finally he's finished. ^_^ I'm not too content with his sword. It's supposed to have an irridiscent look. It's the first time I've ever tried this effect, but I'm not convinced by the end result. What do you think? Aside from that, I'm pretty OK with how the rest came out. As you can see, I went with a yellow robe in the end, to tie him in with the rest of the Fists some more. His banner needs its back painted still (so I cheated a bit by posting him as finished but I couldn't be bothered tonight). I will have to copy the design form the front, which is not too elaborate, but has lettering and some other detail work. Aside from his personal heraldry, the banner sports a Terminator Honour badge (to be worn by those trained in the use of the armour and also by all other 1st company marines) and his Captain's rank insignia. Oh; and his name of course... ;) The helmet on the base is obviously Emperor's Children; a nice complementary colour to the Fist's Yellow and also fluffwise justified. Oh; and he still needs a couple of layers of Dullcote, as the banner is still shiny from the VMC Glossy Black I bought by mistake... :nuke: http://www.fierylions.nl/Pictures/ForumPictures/ImperialFistsArmy/Sigismund/Sigismund%201.jpg http://www.fierylions.nl/Pictures/ForumPictures/ImperialFistsArmy/Sigismund/Sigismund%202.jpg http://www.fierylions.nl/Pictures/ForumPictures/ImperialFistsArmy/Sigismund/Sigismund%203.jpg http://www.fierylions.nl/Pictures/ForumPictures/ImperialFistsArmy/Sigismund/Sigismund%20Sword.jpg So; what's next? The speeder? The second dread? A robot? Another sergeant? Name it! ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/96447-imperial-fists-heresy-era-army/page/8/#findComment-2093620 Share on other sites
mr tough guy
Excellent work mate, as usual. my vote for your next piece goes to the speeder, it's been too long since I've seen a decent painted speeder that doesn't look like a bumpercart Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/96447-imperial-fists-heresy-era-army/page/8/#findComment-2093637 Share on other sites

MIGHTYPanhead
I quite like the sword. Adds a bit of colour, but still remains "black". Nice job! :) As for suggestions on what to tackle next... I would suggest some more marines! They're really fantastic, and more of them can't be a bad thing.. right? :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/96447-imperial-fists-heresy-era-army/page/8/#findComment-2093718 Share on other sites
