12 MoH - completed Plodding Along

Hi folks,

Here is the closing point for a 10 months long project: a 12MoH plodding along vow consisting in developing a few (a lot) of additional items of scenery. The purpose was to increase the set from which I could select my scenery for an Ashland desert themed table. Before starting I already had quite a good bunch of scenery associated to this theme yet it was not necessarily fully satisfying. Indeed it was based mainly on small LoS blocking elements or scattered areas. It lacked a third dimension and height.

I toyed with the idea on including something like a mining theme in order to link the table theme with my not GCS project. Because it can be clearly assumed now that I will end up building a GSC force…

What was the initiating event that decided me for starting up that project this year? The MTO for Tectonic fragdrill opened to sales by GW in December 2025…

We have therefore:

-          A style (Ashland)

-          A theme (mining precinct)

-          A subtheme (mining site)

-          A constraint (giving height)

-          A mandatory model (the Fragdrill)

The initial steps of the work focused on getting some hills and big rocky chunks. Big enough to screen titanic walkers. It was a good training for defining the paint scheme and the shading of the items.

Then the stuff went off road. I added a fuel/ammo dump and grabbed a second hand set of Ryza pattern ruins that were not on the initial rooster. I cut, I saw, I filled with paster and medical mesh… More armored container were added after that, including a damaged one.

After a serious slow down, I completed the set of cranes (bought during the same MTO than the Fragdrill). And summer came which made that slow down turning into a full stop (due to being committed to CtA26). When September came (ooh, a quote from GreenDay!) I resumed the project with the Fragdrill. Better late than never one may say.

Yet I was almost convinced I would not be able to complete the vow because of a tiny item listed in my initial pledge: a home made power generator. I already own the Killteam items that are supposed to be plasma generators (from KT Termination), but these cannot be interconnected with plasma pipes. A shame. I therefore loaded a shoe box with bitz and plasticard remains in order to try to build something more aligned with my views on the matter. It has been quite a fast job in the end, but how much did I struggle with myself just to start doing it! But I did it. Next time I will instead look for a 3D printed stuff. If there is a next time.

But hey! How does it looks like now?

Well, here it comes:

Close up on the fragdrill and the powergen. The latter can also be seen there (Power surge - Bouargh´s miniatures´ closet clean-up - The Bolter and Chainsword)

The ammo dump; this will be perfectly usable on a Munitorum themed table too. After all I own many Munitorum assets (containers, drums, cranes…)

An overview of the mine with the crane on top (I forgot to put it whan I made the first pics so be not surprised it appeared suddenly!).

The Mine itself is a Mesa, counting as impassable terrain except for units with keyword “Fly” or with scouting rules allowing a deployment on the top of the hill before the battle rages. I guess a deep striking unit might access the mesa too. And if needed some hatches can be added to climb on top from the mine entrance. An idea for a future project would be to model a kind of lateral scaffolding to get an access route… Being a highly thematic item meant to be scenarized, getting an asymmetric access will not be that problematic.

This was my 2026 Plodding along pledge for 12MoH. It is done and complete! I end up with a LOT of extra scenery. If I add the rest of the Ashland themed stuff I have made over the years I could cover twice the exhibited surface (or even more if I try getting a table effectively playable with longer distances between debris and scenery elements!).

Next adventure? I dunno yet. But if I decide something you will read it there!

See you.
