I've been a long time lurker on here (since 2007 I believe) and finally grew some stones and signed up properly. I'm using this thread to document my return to 40k after not touching anything for 17 years. What will follow is my slow progress on my own Astartes chapter; the Ardent Swords. First up will be the chapter master and honour. The chapter master is still waiting for some bits to arrive so he'll probably be postponed to January at this rate. Hope you all enjoy watching my journey back into the grim darkness. First up; the honour guard. These chaps are built on the reiver base with extra bits stuck on. First time doing hand transplants with these guys and was more fiddly than expected.

Since we seems to lake a thread about discussing how to make our traitor members of Loyalist Legions or loyalists members of Traitor Legions. There are lots of other threads where the discussion have appeared but more as a derailing or side discussions. So here we have a thread for explicit talking about how to make you Traitor Ultramarines stand out from their Loyalist brothers, or your Loyalist Night Lords form their traitors and cowards kin on the other side. And how to explain their existance. With that said, here are links to some of the threads where this discussion have happened before: Will poste some of the thoughts and suggestions from those threads here later.

Greetings, fellow programs. I've felt motivated to get my Necrons into a full army ready position, having left them to languish in a grey for far too long... thought some were under coated I swear! I'm going to add to this topic but I would be delighted to see what else other people are working on as well. Anyone else motivated by 10th? I'm no good at taking pics, with technology not being my strong suit (ironic huh) but here is what I've completed this week: I need better lighting and will see what I can do I painted their "carapace" parts a dark green, using Nuln Oil gloss over it to deepen things even darker. Edge highlights of lighter greens to ensure depth and make them prettier. Initially used the same lighter green on the contours of the skull shape for the head, but found the latter models looked better with an in-between shade of green (warpstone glow) on the face to make it pop without looking... awful. The early Warriors can stay like that, as they don't look awful. Some of the first Warriors were painted months ago but I finished them and their compatriots a day ago. ***** Next up... I might treat myself to a Skorpekh Lord or maybe the Nightbringer.

Renegades and Heretics (and heretic-Heretics) Painting Bonanza Welcome to the first R&H collective painting event. We're doing this to have some fun, get some inspiration, and show off some great little plastic (or metal or resin) Heretics. Participants will be able to vow to paint part of their collection, ranging from a single cultist to an entire army, and we'll see how much we as a subforum can accomplish. The Rules: Anyone is welcome to participate within the guidelines of the festivities. The event will start immediately, and run until the end of August. Anyone is free to vow as much or as little as they would like, but please finish one vow before starting on another. Try to not vow more than you can handle. Any models fall into one of three categories: 1. Entries in the Renegades and Heretics army list from Forgeworld's Imperial Armour Index. 2. Entries from the Astra Militarum army list from Index: Imperium 2. 3. Other Entries with the Faction Keyword "Chaos". These entries may only make up a total of half of your vows in total. So two squads of Cultists and a Squad of Fallen is ok, Three Squads of Renegade Astartes solo is not ok for this event (unless you have three units to balance them). The Vow: Simply post the following to make your vow of painting. Failure in your vows will be looked on harshly by the Warmaster, and being turned into spawn is the best you can hope for. "I, [name], vow to supply the Warmaster with [units or models here] totaling [total points]. May we bring death to the False Emperor." I will keep track of the vows periodically here :) Kinstryfe- 10 Marauders with Meltas and Shotguns, 2x 6 Marauders with Flamers 194pts 4 Lascannon and 3 Autocannon Teams 146pts 3 Malefic Lords and 3 Enforcers 183pts Greenz- 10 Guardsmen with Heavy bolter, Flamer, and Bolter 56pts Lorgar17- 2 renegade enforcers, 2x 5 Marauders with a plasma gun, meltagun, flamer, grenade launcher and shotgun, a disciple heavy weapon team with a missile launcher, and a land raider with a combi-bolter 550pts Hydra with heavy flamer/heavy bolter (magnetised), totalling 132pts Akrim- 30 Mutants with shotguns and 2 Medusa Siege Guns 120+???pts Azekai- 2 Nurgle Enforcers with Plasma Pistols 70pts

Ok guys, had a (IMHO) great idea on how to get conscripts fluffily into our DKOK (or any other that wouldn't use them) armies. Indentured Citizenry! We've all read dead men walking, how the DKOK have no qualms about training up citizens to become soldiers.. but imagine one step down from that, I could see them happily arming the masses to fight for them! So the next question is, does anyone know of some good 'normal people' models that are of a similar scale to FW's Kriegers and Elysians that I could convert up? Thanks in advance!

Hello fellow princeps! Having finally gotten an account in this vibrant community, I guess it's only appropriate to start by showing off some miniature goodness. I have a personal compulsion to convert everything to make it unique, even if only slightly, and a Titan Legio would be no exception. Legio Favilla, the Ashen Gods, are not a frontline battle Legio as such, originally developed for more sombre purposes of acting as final arbitrators of imperial justice for civilizations that resisted too vehemently. Theirs was an unenviable lot, from a sane point of view, to descend in flames to wipe whole worlds' inhabitants from existence until no shred of memory remained. "Imperator Domine, in cinere dona eis requiem" - Lord Emperor, grant peace for their ashes. They've often marched alongside the XIV legion Astartes, with whom they share a grim and humorless attitude towards advancing the great efforts of the Imperium. Currently I'm up at 2 Warlords, 3 Reavers, 4 Warhounds and 10 Knights of some varieties built with some more in boxes or being eyed on the shelves. AT hits just the right buttons, plastic crack train has no brakes Paintingwise, trying out NMM for the first time in any seriousness was a spur of the moment decision that came about as I was starting the first Warlord. Using metallic paints just didn't feel right on this scale, so I went with a more expressive and less realistic style to try and capture some of that sweet, heavy atmosphere of baroque paintings, stepping out of their frames and striding into the furious, mad symphony of war. I apologize for phone pictures, future updates should have an actual system camera behind them from now on. The grand smurf of the order, Iudex Ultionis - The Judge of Vengeance, first to fall from the heavens horns blaring. Here he is, guiding the little lambs to slaughter like a good shepherd. I'll eventually get around to take proper pics of them too. The second lord, Memento Mori - reminder for the opposition of their own mortal frailty. His base will have a despairing soldier staring up, gun fallen from slack fingers. Reavers underway: Aurora Terribilis - the Terrifying Dawn, last gasp of regret the enemy has before their doom and Damnatio Memoriae - fate of those destined to be swept off from the collective memory of the galaxy. First Reaver to get ready: Ruina Superborum - the Ruin of the Haughty, that which inevitably follows for the fools who dared to resist the bearers of the Aquila. What is a Legio without its loyal Hounds of war? Let them run and dance in the ashes. Edax Rerum - (like Time) Who Devours All. Echo Dolorum - the Echo of Sorrows. Occisor Spesi - Murderer of Hope. Cineres Immensi - the Vast Ashes. And some Cerastus waiting their turn. Acherons' flamers were converted from Warhound's Inferno Cannons, fits nicely I find. Cor aut mors, brethren!
