GAR
One could assume that Hydraxis did not listen to his mommy about sticking his tongue out at others. Now it is stuck like that. But how did he get the snake thing going on. I shudder to think what he stuck out for that one. ^_^ Once again doing my part to be a part of the problem. The_Chaplain
"okay wise guy, the next four are yours!" ROFLMAO-- that was priceless. I'm truly amazed how well you are pulling of the split scheme on these termies. Keep up the good work! Honda
@The Chaplain Thanx for comments. It's been quite a journey so far and there are still times when I'm not sure that the white/black thing will come off, but I am determined to see it though. There are times when I wish I could get them painted quicker, but there hasn't been a way to short cut the process. I was pretty sure of that going into this, but it has tested my patience more than once. The upside is that the next 10 I am working on are moving along at a pretty good pace and I'd like to have them done by the end of next week. Then I'd only have 5 more to go, plus some scouts, plus 3 dreads, plus my drop pods. That's a lot of pluses, but I do see the end of this part. After that, Phase II where I will most likely work up a Librarian in PA, his PA retinue. These will replace the termie libby + retinue, and I have an idea for a couple quick tac squads that will bridge me into Phase III, which has Landspeeders and more tactical squads. In any case, the intent is to get to the table and have an army while the next phases are in progress. That way when Apocalypse comes around, I'll have a pretty decent sized army to mess around with. @GAR I can always count on you to do your part  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/100590-apocalypse-lords/page/5/#findComment-1201279 Share on other sites
Honda
Ok, good progress today. The base "white" side is done, so I have started on the bling, primarily the bronze areas and the Crux. This is the first pass on those areas so I will follow up on them a little bit later. The encouraging thing about this part of the exercise is that I am way ahead of schedule compared to how long it took me to get the first five done. Perhaps knowing what you are doing ahead of time is a good thing. ^_^ Some team shots http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Omegawing/Omegawing-WIP13001.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Omegawing/Omegawing-WIP13002.jpg As promised last week, more Snakes from my first 40K army, the Alpha Legion http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Alpha%20Legion/Omegawing-WIP13006.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Alpha%20Legion/Omegawing-WIP13007.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Alpha%20Legion/Omegawing-WIP13008.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Alpha%20Legion/Omegawing-WIP13009.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Alpha%20Legion/Omegawing-WIP13010.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Alpha%20Legion/Omegawing-WIP13011.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Alpha%20Legion/Omegawing-WIP13012.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Alpha%20Legion/Omegawing-WIP13013.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Alpha%20Legion/Omegawing-WIP13014.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Alpha%20Legion/Omegawing-WIP13015.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Alpha%20Legion/Omegawing-WIP13016.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Alpha%20Legion/Omegawing-WIP13017.jpg A size comparison with the newer terminators http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Alpha%20Legion/Omegawing-WIP13018.jpg The Saturday Funnies http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Omegawing/ComicWIP13005.jpg Until next time... Honda
Here they are, never perfect, but always progressing... This week's installment is moving right along. I am definitely on the home stretch. Tasks remaining: 1. Finish highlighting the bronze 2. Add script to purity seals, armor 3. Do the Omega symbol on the shoulder pads 4. Add the "energy" to the power weapons 5. Add battle damage 6. Finish bases For those keeping track, this batch of 10 will be done by the end of the month (at least it looks that way). So that means that my theory of being able to double up once I knew what I was doing proved out. This time, my "Line-fu" was a little shakier than last time, so some touch up will be necessary. Still, it will be nice to have 15 done. Also, I got some larger PVC pipe and caps and put together the drop pods that will carry my dreads. Here is a picture of the new size (3") next to the smaller, plus a figure for scale. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Omegawing/Omegawing-WIP14018.jpg Here are some WIP shots. The Angelus Sanctus
Impressive work as always Honda, the terminators look fantastic, well done :) Im finding myself VERY fond of the glowing eyes as well, looks great! Its great to see the work you have put into these models and each batch, i swear is a constant progression on previous work (not to suggest your previous work is bad, but each time i see your termies, you seem to be getting a firm handle on things). Keep up the great work :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/100590-apocalypse-lords/page/5/#findComment-1208857 Share on other sites
GAR
The OSL on the eyes is very very good. Excellent work, although... well how do I say this? They all seem rather formal. All the black and white and the gold touches. I think they all need a tie and cufflinks. Honda
HOOAAAH!!! Ok, that's about the best way to kick off this session. I got the 10 termies done, so my count is now 15 down, 5 to go. What I am excited about is that it took me nearly 50 days to get the first five done, but the second ten in 14 days. That bodes well for when I kick off the effort to create some tactical squads to support their big brothers. The group shots are posted in the Hall of Honor. So without further ado, a few selected shots... http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Omegawing/Omegawing-WIP15008.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Omegawing/Omegawing-WIP15009.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Omegawing/Omegawing-WIP15010.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Omegawing/Omegawing-WIP15011.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Omegawing/Omegawing-WIP15013.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Omegawing/Omegawing-WIP15028.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Omegawing/Omegawing-WIP15030.jpg Here are the veteran sgts for the two squads. I am much happier with the "dripping" energy effect on the power weapons this go vs. what I did on the Librarian. This is a lot closer to how I imagine it should be. It was a pain in the neck to replicate on the lightning claws, but I think I got close. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Omegawing/Omegawing-WIP15032.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Omegawing/Omegawing-WIP15033.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Omegawing/Omegawing-WIP15034.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Omegawing/Omegawing-WIP15018.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Omegawing/Omegawing-WIP15021.jpg The Saturday comic: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Omegawing/Comic023.jpg And I'm going to take a scout break to produce some of these... http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Scouts/Omegawing-WIP15035.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Scouts/Omegawing-WIP15036.jpg For those of you who may not like the tactical helmets, I am invoking the "It's my army and I think it's cool" rule  Cheers until next time... Honda
I really like the way you did your claws. Is that a layer thing, or did you blend to that. Could you expalin, I would like to try it in blue. What a great army!!!!! Thanx Lf! I'll try to explain what I do and you can tell me which technique that is as I'm not sure. :teehee: 1. Weapon is base coated in black 2. Paint Boltgun metal on the blade Interlude...<the interesting bit>...So the effect I am striving for is the idea that energy will be generated from a point or edge and then "drip" or flow down the surface. This means that you have to decide where the energy is originating from and then shade one way or the other to the other side. In my case, I wanted the energy to collect at the lowest point. 3. After you decide which way things are going to flow, paint Chaos Black over that area 4. Then paint a thin coat of Dark Angels green over almost all of the black From here I use what a friend called a "wet" palette. In my case, I use a paper towel, the kind that can hold some moisture and not shred on you, use an eye dropper to put several drops of water on a spot, put some paint on your brush and gently dab on the paper towel. This takes some paint off and puts some water on your brush. I used this technique for all the remaining colors. 5. Apply Snot Green in a flowing, waterfall on the lowest edge of the energy, pulling the paint up to the higher edge. 6. Do the same with Scorpion Green, but don't draw it up as much 7. Do the same with Bilious Green. Also feel free to add some swirling energy type strokes on areas so that it looks like there is movement 8. Use Skull White for a final highlight, just dotting here and there In this case, the lowest edge is the brightest color. You could do the exact opposite as well. If I were going to do blues (and I don't mean singing), I'd start with a mix of Regal Blue and Black, then Regal Blue, then UM Blue, Ice Blue, and finally Skull White. You could probably get a similar effect by starting with the Regal Blue+Black mix, then Regal Blue, then lighten up your blue with Skull White as well. Feel Free to experiment, it's not that difficult to do. I hope that helps. Honda
Well, now that the thunderstorms have let up for a little bit, let's get on with the show. Here are my WIP Scouts. Mostly sniper rifles with a ML, though because I had a few points left over, I added some bolters for "perimeter defense". My intention is to make them distinguishable, but subdued in appearance. Some aren't going to like how this turns out, then again, I will invoke the "It's my army" Rule . They will still have glowing green eyes, just to be consistent with the rest of the army, but for the most part I am expecting them to be like the real hunters they represent in my army, so blending in with the background is the order for the day. We'll see how that turns out as I'm still working out their scheme in my head. Their cloaks will be camo, armor black, uniform...undecided as yet, but some variation of "dark". Terminus Est
They are just amazing Honda, i esp love the helmets on the scouts. Only two criticisms, the assault cannons look plain. You fixed the storm bolters up nicely but the ass cannons look a little unfinished to me. Maybe some more of that lovely maroon on them? The other crit is the veteran sargents, they just look a little too brassy compared to their bretheren. Maybe if the brass was on the shoulder trim but not the whole pad? Honda
@TE i esp love the helmets on the scouts. The helmets "seemed" like a good visual fit. In my chapter, Scouts are one of the career paths you take after you get your basic tactical training. They operate out in the field looking for Alpha Legion and Word Bearer cells, then call in the big boys to clean up the mess. So, very much a FORCE RECON type of role. Given that, it seemed like they might keep their helmets and just adopt the scout lighter gear. My only two criticisms, the assault cannons look plain. You fixed the storm bolters up nicely but the ass cannons look a little unfinished to me. Maybe some more of that lovely maroon on them? Yes, I have heard that before. I don't know if I'm going to go back and put the red on the casings or not. Part of me is loathe to revisit things like that, but that is a possibility once the rest of the army is finished. I have taken it under consideration and will evaluate the overall look at a later time. It seems like the missing red stands out more when the a.cannon are viewed on their own and it is less obvious when the army is all together. Anyway, understood and acknowledged. The other crit is the veteran sargents, they just look a little too brassy compared to their bretheren. Maybe if the brass was on the shoulder trim but not the whole pad? I should point out that the brass shoulder pads will only exist on one guy. He's special, but I haven't figured out his story yet, so suffice to say, they all wont look that way. The rest of the vet sgts will have the crux on the left and the chapter symbol on the right. So, he's just a bit of eye candy. Excvellent work on the whole though. When i say the force weapon my jaw dropped I'm glad you liked the sword. I've got a couple more to do and they will receive the same treatment. Thanx for the C&C all! Honda
Ok, here we go... Here's a majority of the scouts for the two squads. I'm showing these primarily because of the cloaks. The camo pattern ended up looking a little "Fallschirmjaeger-ish". It's not bad...it's been growing on me. Things to do next: 1. I'll eventually have to go back and put a dark color on the recesses of the cloak to give them some defintion 2. The fabric on their uniform only has a base color. I'll darken this and then come back with some highlights 3. Highlight the helmets and body armor and lenses 4. Do the leather work (e.g. holsters and boots) So, these guys are moving along nicely and I should have them in pretty good shape in another couple of sessions. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Scouts/Omegawing-WIP17155.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Scouts/Omegawing-WIP17154.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Scouts/Omegawing-WIP17153.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Scouts/Omegawing-WIP17152.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Scouts/Omegawing-WIP17151.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Scouts/Omegawing-WIP17150.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Scouts/Omegawing-WIP17149.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Scouts/Omegawing-WIP17148.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Scouts/Omegawing-WIP17147.jpg As always, the Saturday comic: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Scouts/Comic157.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/100590-apocalypse-lords/page/5/#findComment-1227079 Share on other sites
Khrangar
I quite like the camo scheme on the scouts. I'm not a fan of the marine heads on them though, but to each their own I suppose. I'd be interested in seeing the scouts when finished. Tyrannicide
The scouts look great Honda. The color scheme is pretty sweet too. I like the marine helmets on them, especially the scout with the new DA hooded helmet bit. I knew going into this (the helmet thing), that people were either going to like them or they wouldn't. No biggee. I like how it looks and it fits my fluff. I'm also of the mind that you really have to be some kind of nut case to go into combat (especially in the 41st millenium) and not have head protection. So, everybody in my army wears a helmet...well, except for the Librarian stand-ins, but then that's because they are n...you get the point. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/100590-apocalypse-lords/page/5/#findComment-1227149 Share on other sites
Honda
Do you know how sometimes you get a song in your head and it just won't go away? Well, quite thankfully, Barbara Streisand and Barry Manilow (shudder) remain banned to the deepest regions of Chaos. However something a little more "Olympic" did stir through my brain and so I present to you, my "Chariots of Fire". http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Omegawing/Omegawing-WIP18004.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Omegawing/Omegawing-WIP18005.jpg So, the construction is done on these, three big ones for Dreadnoughts, the rest will transport terminators and tactical squads. So ten pods o' love for the enemies of the Emperor. The omega symbol was transferred on with pencil from a stencil (no I'm not waxing poetic today) I made by printing out the character from Word, cutting it into an index card, then tracing onto the drop pod. The omega symbol only has a base coat of Beastial Brown right now. I will go over this with a red. There were some separation marks on the PVC that I decided to turn into failed plasma/melta/fusion shots because I can. :P Anyway, the guys won't be walking anywhere from here on in. And here is today's Saturday comic: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d187/hkowabunga/Apocalypse%20Lords/Omegawing/ComicWIP18009.jpg Cheers, Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/100590-apocalypse-lords/page/5/#findComment-1233387 Share on other sites
StratoKhan
I like the camo on your scout cloaks, very nice. The drop pods look good but maybe a bit more detail would improve their look.
