Thanks guys!

I did a sort of tutorial way back on page 5 describing the way i paint. I belive i've used even more earthy colours for these two last ones, making the blacklining even less "black". The dirtiest parts of my minis are simply just earthy colours mixed into my white. Hope that can shed some light on your question drudge.

cheers guys!

A very small update but here is a sort of team/class photo of the termie detachment of my force so far.

Top row: I’ve been messing around a bit with the terminators and decided to make a few changes.(surprise, surprise, no wonder this takes forever. But hey, that’s me… I guess.) I’m going to re-arm my heavy specialist in the shooty squad from AC to Cyclone and storm bolter. For one, I think cyclones look cool and secondly because I need to save a few points in order to field the list I’m currently working towards. Also leaning heavily towards giving my sergeant a hammer and storm shield. Yeah, that’s right, guess he’ll mostly be rather useless in a shooty squad, but I kind of fancy how he looks together with the rest of the squad geared like that. Have a termie with chain fist primed and all, but I don’t really like the pose I glued him in. So he is gone in favour of a guy with just a fist. I kind of like the cocky western/cowboy style gunfighter pose he is getting. Draw… <_<

Bottom row: No additional work done yet besides replacing a th/ss with a set of claws for one member.

So…how awful of an idea is it really to put a hammer sergeant in a primarily shooty squad? -_-

So…how awful of an idea is it really to put a hammer sergeant in a primarily shooty squad?

Very very awful. I assume you'll be using Codex Dark Angels rather than the upcoming Codex Space Marines (Oct)?

Anyways if that is indeed the case yes it's pretty awful, as if that squad ever faces a combat situation it's very likely they'll all go down without getting a single hit off (normally when the Sgt has a power weapon he'll be able to cut some foes down at initiative - assuming the foes don't have better I). In a force using the upcoming 5th Edition Codex their Sgt if armed in the same manner as yours (assuming that's even possible in that Codex) has a much better chance of surviving (3+ Inv save vs shooting and cc).

Cheres mates!

Hehe, yeah, i knew it was a bad idea. :P But to be honest, i'm more concerned with losing out on the stormbolter shots rather than the intiative swings. Anything sent to charge a unit of termies probobly is evil enough to smack my behind anyway. Optimal wargear isn't too important for me, but okay, i'll give that a good thinking. Perhaps i'm building this army weak enough as it is... Thanks for the advice.

Yes, this army will be buildt using the DA-dex. Atleast when heavy on terminators. For a pure biker army i might use the new marine dex instead. (My guys aren't even Dark Angel sucessors, they are sons of the mighty Rogal Dorn, so i don't feel bound to any particular codex for that reason.) The really long term plan is to build enough for pure termie and biker armys and of course any combination between them. The "short" plan is to hit 2k with almost as few minis as possible and therefore heavy on terminators.

  • 3 weeks later...

The third terminator, the heavy specialist, is about 80% done. After very much debate with myself, i decided to swap back to the assult cannon over the cyclone. Mainly because there's so much less work with that gun already being primed and all. Yeah, maybe a bit lazy, but anyway...

Still left to paint= The shoulderpads (only basecoated), the metalic areas (also only basecoated and and a couple of washes), the glowing red targeter, the gems on the crux, the pruity seals, the base (i'll do these all together once the squad is done) and some minor touching up here and there.

I kind of like how they look together. This only 3 somewhat finished minis, but it's actually kind of rewarding to see the army take some sort of shape. C&C as always appriciated!

I can't describe how much I'm loving these terminators. Desert Eagle you've really outdone yourself. Not sure if taking out the cyclone was a wise choice.....but I'm not much of a gamer

When you have this army finished and on the tabletop I would love to see a battle report with some pictures if that isn't too much to ask?

Ofcourse seeing how fast you paint...it might be awhile :P

You've really inspired me to get back into this hobby and start on my old dark angel successor chapter....(soon to have a blog as soon as I get my lazy ass a better camera  )

Anyways keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing this army completed

Cheers guys, thanks!

@Bojangles: Yeah, a battlereport sounds like fun. I'll probobly do that once i get a big enough force painted up. But as you said...that might take a while! :Elite:

@Mmmmflamed'nid: Cheers, Guess they kind of do. Haven't heard of that group att all tough, what kind of music is that anyway?

Small update. No additional work done on the ac-guy. But just as with the cyclone switching back to ac, saving some time, i started painting a termie already primed rather than cleaning up and priming the replacement i had planed. Well well, he is basicly very early in the painting stages. The lower body is getting there, but is far from done. But what i'm really curious about is what you guys think of the checkered pattern on the fist. Good or bad idea? Does he fit in with the rest of the squad? Wanted to do something slightly diffrent, so i figured checkers might be cool. The battle damage got a little over the top, so i'll probobly paint over some of it. Btw, painting chekers turned out to be a real headache. Those damn squares are hard to paint neatly... :D

I like the checkered patternon his fist just fine. Wth your top-noth weathering, itlooks convincingly like a stone checkerboard. And in regards to the "over the top" weatherng on the fist, I'd leave it. He's bashing stuff with that hamfist, hence the notches and nicks.

These guys are a like a slow blooming exotic flower.

The assault cannon shield/badge is brilliant. I will have to borrow that!

The Checkered powerfist is flawless with the weathering.

Great work. This army will be a master piece when its done. Hopefully the DA codex will do it justice on the battle field in 5th ed..

:)

Thanks guys!

@Muskie: Well, i don't know...it depends if i get hold of a mini in time. Also, as i have the crux on the shoulderpad from forgeworld on all my terminators, having on mini without would burn my eyes out. :jaw: But big applauds to the guys behind the contest, and there are some very nice prizes.

@Tiriel: Fiery orange mixed with Dark Angel green. No ratios or anything, sorry, i just mix the colours untill i'm happy with what i see.

@ShinyRhino: Thanks. I might leave the weathering and damage as it is then.

@Master Toddius: Cheers mate. Well, i plan on cheating! Haha, no, seriously, i just hope i can squeeze a win in now an then. Atleast it should be quite decent in kill point missions, i hope. Later on, in the far far future, when i can muster a full biker army, they will most likely be fielded with the vanilla codex however.

@Aioannou: Well, it's been said before. Don't know if it will ever happen tough.

@TheRat: Can't really take much credit for it as i saw that article about the biker bases on the gw-site. I just used diffrent sized bases for virtually the same convertion.

Well, i've made some further progress on the checkered marine. The gun arm is mostly unpainted, as is ofcourse the metallics and the base, other than that it's just some small tweaking here and there.
