El-Diablo
Absolutely AMAZING! I must say they are just so cleanly painted. :) ;) ;) Cheers! the red on the tabard looks like a really well done bloodstain... you should leave it that way I've just had a look at that, and your right! Pity the tabbard has had a new paint job. Oh well. After losing the mojo for a while, i've done a bit more to Sgt Arlan, just his banner/backpack left to do now. Once thats done he'll get thrown up in the Hall with the first half of the squad. I've also come up with a small piece of sidebar text for Sgt Arlan which will go in IA: Sword Bearers once its written (stop beating me with that stick Mol!). Once a member of the revered Vanguard Veterans, Brother Sgt Arlan lost his legs in a near suicidal assault on a Black Legion dreadnought, from which he was the only survivor. After many months of physical and spiritual recuperation he petitioned First Captain Tarius for permission to rejoin the company and continue his role in the Chapter’s Vanguard. Although Arlan’s intentions were pure, Tarius thought Arlan’s talents would be better suited elsewhere within the Chapter and was given command of a tactical squad under the command of Brother Captain Ranon, of the 3rd. As well as his newly implanted bionic legs, Arlan was the recipient of the Niveus Mucro, a badge of great honour amongst the chapter, gifted posthumously to Sword Bearer’s Vanguard upon their death. Although dead as a Vanguard, Brother Arlan’s tactical squad is always counted amongst the first into the fray, and the last to leave. Anyway, no-one but Mol wants to read walls of text so minus backpack, here he is. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y57/El-Diablo/Sword%20Bearers/ArlanWIP3.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y57/El-Diablo/Sword%20Bearers/ArlanWIP4.jpg

Barret
That red gets more delicious every time I see it, and I agree with Pulse about the helmet. I wish I could freehand swords like that... Or anything, really. ;)
MithrilForge
Great Model that "Sgt Arlan" :tu: i suspect/guess that the helmet is from the Dark angel accessories sprue and that he has shaved off the wings surrounding the sword icon....am i close midian :) ?? or possibly it is just greenstuff skills! Commissar Molotov
Yay! Fluff! Er, I mean... whatawonderfulredblahblahblahIwishIcouldfreehandblahblahblah. Where was I? Fluff... :) But seriously, the black helmet to denote Veteran status is very cool, and I'm as impressed as ever. Some day I'll have to make it down to Winchester to see these guys in person! Be sure to send me some of your ideas on IA: Sword Bearers, and I'll stop beating you with that stick. :tu:

Ta Pulse, your right about the helmet, I think the black helmet, combined with the heavy bionics and the pose give a really menacing feel to it. Mithril Cheers gents, Mithril is spot on about the head, its from one of the Dark Angels sprues (Ravenwing I think) with the wings shaved off the sides of the sword. Pain in the ass to do though. Yay! Fluff! Er, I mean... whatawonderfulredblahblahblahIwishIcouldfreehandblahblahblah. Where was I? Be sure to send me some of your ideas on IA: Sword Bearers, and I'll stop beating you with that stick. ;) I though that might keep you quiet for a while. ;) I will get the fragmented ideas written down at some point, I just need to find the scraps of paper their scribbled across in one place at the same time. As for the freehand, I wish I could paint freehand, not just thick lines! The amount of cleaning up on the number was unreal, I nearly scrapped the pad for another but it worked out ok in the end. I think the black veteran helms really add to the piece, though I may need to add another highlight to make it pop, it seems a little subdued to me at the moment. Once the rest of the squad is done im going to do some more vets, terminator armoured this time, and a magnetised Land Raider to dump them it. I think I need to do something more interesting than Tacticals just to keep me sane, plus Satans little helper is bringing me an airbrush and compressor for xmas so I don't have to worry about brush marks on the huge landy plates. Awesome models and painted good job! Sweet use of the bionic bits, and the black helmet is very imposing. I like it a lot. An excellent addition to an excellent army. Cheers guys. Im aiming to get some more red down later today, it won't be much, but it'll be worth another picture as i've got an old armour varient in there. Skull_Lord
:P :tu:  :tu: Your Sword Bearers are beautiful, especially the red (which is why i use a technique based on yours). I like the use of bionic legs combined with the black helmet on Brother Sergeant Arlan. Makes him look menacing.

After the amaziness soke in, my quirky brain informed me, "I'll never get my metal legs", in a high-pitch whiny, robotic voice.

El-Diablo
Sounds good to me, I'll keep an eye out for the PM. Are you just painting what you feel like, or are you trying to piece together a decent army? At the moment its generally what I feel like, though I do have a loose idea of an order to paint them in. Now im close to half the tacticals done, I need to paint something that isn't power armour, so thats either scouts of terminators. Seeing as i've got a redeemer and some magnets sat on the shelf I may as well do the terminators and a Landy. Once their done im going to do 10 assault marines and 10 devs, then Captain Ranon, the command squad and their transport.

Marshall Costello
You may have already adressed this, Midian, but are you making a complete company?
El-Diablo
You may have already adressed this, Midian, but are you making a complete company? Yep, complete 3rd company, with scout and veteran support. Im going to do a bit of a motor pool, probably a couple of predators, vindicators and whirlwinds. Land Raiders will be attached to the 1st company, and i'll probably do a couple of techmarines as well.

El-Diablo
Quick update, the red is done on a couple of tac marines, including an old metal mk5 variant. Should get a bit more done on these tomorrow. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y57/El-Diablo/Sword%20Bearers/WIP14Nov.jpg
Sir Clausel
Lovly army you got going here! The red is nicely painted! Whats the recipe? I really like that you convert almost every marine just at least a little bit. The sarge Arlan you have reposed the arm holding the gun I see but did you cut it in anyway or did you just glue it on with a little space between and GS the soft armor? The red (all credit for this to Chaplain Desmodus) -Mechrite Red basecoat -Overbrush Blood Red until you get an even coat -Line the armour joins with a watered down mix of 50/50 black/brown ink (devlan mud wash would work for this also) -Edge highlight with Blazing Orange -Glaze with red ink (Thinned down Baal Red would also work) The arm had a pin going into the body which was bent out a couple of mm, then gs'ed.
