Vadskærs Marines

liking these, some very neat painting there.

Whats confusing me a little though, is the really random basing?

Regarding the basing - as with my painting - I do what I think suits the model. The latest is a standard tactical marine, and thus I feel he would do just fine on a simple base, whereas an indvidual character looks cooler on a more impressive base.

...or maybe I just haven't found the final "look" for my army yet in regards to basing. But anywho, I can always take him off if I at some later stage decide do do a more uniform theme.

i like what i am seeing so far!

would you be able to do a picture of the whole lot together, so i can take in how much you have done so far without having to flick back and forth <_<

Hello lewiss111

I can certainly try to get a group shot! Might be fun to see how much it adds up to :-)

Your models look amazing especially the sternguard vet sgt but why have you only painted the laurel on half his helmet?

Hi mikhail,

Thanks <_< In regards to the laurel - maybe he only earned himself one!? Nah, no particular reason. I just felt it would look nice on just the one side of his helmet.

Hey Vadskær,

Brilliant models, I love your dark angels.

Can you tell me how you paint skin...

Thanks

Hi Ragnar02

Thanks for the praise! :P

Here's what I usually do when I paint skin:

Undercoat chaos black spray

Basecoat two thinned layers of tallarn flesh

Wash with Ogryn Flesh

Wash with Devlan Mud (only in the deeper recesses)

Begin to paint the non-recessed areas with a base of Tallarn Flesh with increasing amounts of Dwarf Flesh added.

Highlight with Dwarf Flesh mixed with Bleached Bone.

Redo the reccesses with a fine detail brush loaded with a bit of Devlan Mud.

Paint the eyes (always a bugger!)

Key note is always to keep the layers thin - they look better and dry fast, so you can usually paint up a face in one go when you continually mix the paint into lighter tones. Also, if you want to add beard or stubble, add a tiny amount of grey into the mix and for gods sake - keep it thinned :)

Hope it was usefull - if now, feel free to ask again!

awesome work! I think im in love with your chaplain!

Du får den også lige på dansk hvis du skulle være i tvivl: super flotte minis! :D

Are you going to try a vindicator or whirlwind in the future?

- Don G.

Hey Don G.

Cool to have another Dane check out my thread and thanks a lot for your comments!

The Rhino that I'm painting now will actually also be a Whirlwind...the top-piece can be removed and exchanged for the missile launchers. I've got a Vindi assembled and basecoated, but I can't decide if I should paint it Deathwing white or the regular DA green! Any comments or ideas?

Well its only a matter of opinion but I say Deathwing white! Makes it look more elite!

My thoughts too! Plus, it will make the grizzly ork-heads and skulls I am planning to hang from the siege shield contrast nicely with the bone-white <_<

Hi, sorry for the late reply! I've been so busy these past couple of days!

The recipe for the crimson fist was quite simple:

Chaos Black spray undercoat

Necron Abyss Foundation - do two thinned coats

Shade the recesses with Babdab black - one or two layers should do it.

Highlight with a mix of Regal Blue and Ultramarines Blue.

For extreme highlights, you could do a 3:1 mix of Ultramarines Blue and Space Wolves Gray.

The Ultramarines follow this recipe:

Chaos Black spray undercoat

Regal blue basecoat - two thinned coats

1:1 mix of Regal Blue and Ultramarines Blue; do two coats

Shade the recesses with Babdab Black - two layers.

Highlight first with Ultramarines Blue

Highlight againg with 1:1 mix of Ultramarines Blue and Space Wolves Gray.

Holla if you have any more questions smile.gif

Awesome minis man!

Love the banner bearer, really, this is the best way to use this (one of my favourites indeed) miniature by far! I hope you don't get sad if a Swede steals your idea! It's glorious!!!

Good evening Artekus

Hope all is well in Sweden tonight? :P Sure thing, go ahead and copy-paste the idea. I'm just glad if some of my work could inspire others.

Thanks a lot for your comments - see the next post for something new to look upon :D

'evening all!

After much work (sadly, a lot of it non-40k related) I managed to finish my Rhino! Normally I paint crisp models, but this time I thought I'd challenge myself and go to town with the new Forgeworld weathering powders and make my Rhino look as if it's driven through some arid wastelands with nay a servitor with a bucket load of soap-water anywhere near.

As usual, I couldn't resist the temptation to do some freehand and this prolonged the project somewhat as I had to do a quadrillion layers to get a clean, white finish on the stylized wing on the right side door. Also, the DA relief on the left door took quite some time to paint up.

The challenge with weathering any model is that you must first finish it nice and shiny. You can't let any part wait for after weathering as this would be obvious. All parts has to get some attention in the weathering process in order to avoid some parts looking too crisp. So after finishing a nice and clean Rhino it was time to start the challenge. The result I present below - but first a shot of what it looked like before I continued on the model.

C&C always welcome!

I'm a big fan of weathering, and poweders really help out weathering - so I'm excited to see FW powers as I think because of them we'll see more powders used in 40k, which is good :whoops:

I'm curious how you applied your pigments - did you do a dry application or did you mix with water and wash on?

Morning

I did a dry application with a detail brush after creating a chipped look on the paint with a sponge. However, the result/look after spraying on a layer of matt varnish has dulled the bright dust/earth somewhat.

This Rhino, which will double as a Whirlwind once I get the missile launchers painted, was sort of a test model for my Imperial Guard tank-army, which will be heavilly weathered and worn.

Hey all,

Next project - Deathwing Vindicator! Just basecoated it with my airbrush.

Any suggestions on freehand, embelishment, bling or any other cool things to add-on? The side door and rear door scream for some DA relief symbols from the Ravenwing sprue. The Siege Shield will be decorated with grizzly ork-heads & skulls.

For a challenge, try something more ornate, perhaps. While I'm not suggesting you try and emulate exactly any of the above freehand, or even pursue a freehand project as detailed as any of these examples, I think they are good examples of something more ornate which I imagine the DA would apply to something a bit more rare like a vindicator (rather than something more common like a Rhino)

If any of these images get your inspiration-creative juices flowing It will have justified the 5 min CMON search i did!

keep us posted on the project.

Very good inspiration :D Some of the patterns look a bit too celtic for my taske, but some of the murals are wonderful. Of obvious choices would be the side door and the siege shield. I must also decidce on which areas should be painted green for some contrast.

Right now I'm concentrating on getting the metal areas painted black and getting the tank shaded with Devlan Mud.

I'll post pics once this is done :P

Goodevening all,

I found an astonishing model/sculpt today on eBay, that I couldn't resist buying! He will make the perfect Dark Angel Lord for my army.

I might do a modification and change the raised lion head on the back for a themed banner, but I will decide on that when I get the model on my desk.

Let me know what you think of him ^_^

;) So... Awesome...

Ask the guy you bought it from if he has any more, if not, get a mould made and make me one. I'll pay anything under £15, from you. :)

He would make an awesome Azreal, but is it it just me or does the sword look a bit small and weedy? :jaw:
