Lamenter's Actual Scale Space Marines

Thanks guys. Gonna name him Castiel (a suggestion given on my thread over on Warseer).

Moving on, this is the final squad for a long term project some of you may remember to build an entire army in Mark V armour. This 5 man devastator squad is about 95% done, just a few tweaks, but good enough to post pics of. There are also a further 3 guys to finish off with alternate heavy weapons that can be swapped out.

The FW missile launchers are perfect and fit the terminator shoulder pads very nicely with minimal trimming. I'll definitely be buying more of them for myself, lets face it old school MLs look so much better than the current plastic design.

Thanks guys.

I've just put the final touches to the 5 man Devastator squad in mark V armour I've been working on. The squad has 3 spare guys with alternate weapons so they can be swapped out depending on the game. The shoulder pads on some models are absent because the client has his own custom pads he intends to add to the models.

I had to completely replace the cables on the two lascannon (I notice as I write this I have a few details to add there) to make them fit. This was simply a case off rolling out sausages of GS really thinly and curling them before allowing them to cure. Once firm, I cut them to the appropriate length and glued in place. With them being in a curved shape when cure they were easier to make fit than it I had to bend them from straight.

I've decided the approach of resculpting the arms from regular power armour arms (cheers Doghouse for the inspiration) is definitely the way to go in future rather than using terminator arms. They aren't difficult to do, are more available, easier to position and look more accurate. (Mini Tutorial on the way).

Cheers guys.

I've put together a quick step by step on how I made the arms for my more recent artscale conversions. I think it's pretty self explanatory but fire away if you have any questions. The size difference may be rather subtle but it really does make all the difference. It should be noted that the top of the arms is best attached to the torso a little lower than it normally would be to provide extra length in the arm. GS padding is required anyway to make the bigger shoulder pads fit nicely so it's not really an issue most of the time.

Also the first bit of GSing (number 7) should be allowed to cure before moving onto the next step.

I'm starting work on a few characters to lead the Mark V artscale army I've been ponderously working on. This one is a counts as Pedro Kantor. I've tried to give him an authorative commanding pose, ordering his troops to move their asses to the objective. I really wanted to try another scratch built power fist after the one I made for my Huron Blackheart conversion. I did it by adding greenstuff over a standard powerfist (with the fingers trimed off) to give me a slightly scaled up fist. The fingers took a bit more work, having to cut each part of each finger from plasticard sheet and gluing together (requires a lot of test fitting). I'll post more details of the fist in my next post.

The cloak and banner are from the AoBR captain (again more detailed pics next time). The basic model is nearly done, the next stage is adding all the gorgeous details that make him a Captain.

That is great work! You did a very nice job posing him. He definitely has that authoritative feel that you were shooting for.

Question though: does his power fist have a thumb yet? I can't see one.

Ohh, very cool. There's no mistaking he's a captain!

Some little questions: Is his bolt pistol a storm bolter cut in half? And why did you change the emblem on top of the banner?

Looking forward to seeing more! :)

No he has no thumb yet, but he will in the next update.

The stormbolter is just a stormbolter (either from the commander or command squad sprue I think), with a targetter added for effect.

I had to change the banner top because I'd already used the original on another project.

I think I'll make the top of the cloak a fur texture and drape it over the shoulders but I have been considering transplanting the shoulder pads from the FW Huron model (as the chapter this model belongs to has a lion theme).

Oh,

Hmm, never noticed how cool that FW Huron was. Those shoulder pads could go on a DA Master, in honor of the lion, and that lightning claw would go very nicely on a termie chaplain...

That's an awesome model but I'm surprised you did him bareheaded, knowing the Lamenters' atrocious luck the poor guy is about to get his head blown off by a random bolt shell.

Indeed. The pads weren't to difficult to adapt considering and would be rather fitting on a DA. I'm currently converting a Huron powerclaw to mirror the existing righthand side one, so there'll be a matching pair. I'll post pics of how I do it once it's completed.

You're totally right except that this guy isn't for my own Lamenters. For my Lamenters I want to do a Captain in Tycho-like artificer armour and pose (probably finished with a NMM silver rather than gold). Gonna be a while on that one though.

I managed to acquire a FW Huron model and decided to go ahead with my idea to transplant his shoulder pads onto this model. Whilst this might seem difficult at first, simple patience and some whittling down of the resin from inside each pad gets the job done. I replaced the crux terminatus with a little space for chapter iconography (that'll be up to the painter). I had intended to add details to the back of the fist but I felt the model would simply be overloaded with imagery (how many eagles can you fit on your armour? hehe).

I'm quite impressed with just how nicely the AoBR captain can be converted and incorporated into other minis, I might have to get a few more (he has the nicest power sword too). The fingers of the fist were built of three pieces each and two for the thumb, all cut from 2mm thick plasticard sheet and very carefully trimmed and filed. I'm sure there are a ton of other things I should say but I've drawn a complete blank, so feel free (as always) to just ask.

How did you make the rope (for lack of a better term) across the commander's chest? Is the right foot complete? It looks like it could use some smoothing down towards the outer edge. Will there be any chapter specific moulding on top of the fist?
