Lamenter's Actual Scale Space Marines

How did you make the rope (for lack of a better term) across the commander's chest? Is the right foot complete? It looks like it could use some smoothing down towards the outer edge. Will there be any chapter specific moulding on top of the fist?

Rats, I was going to ask all those questions...

Personally, I think the rope seal (on the right shoulder pad?) is a bit big, and the rope itself is a bit too small. On their own they look fine, but together they look disproportionate.

Good job, as always

The rope is a simple case of two very thinly rolled out "sausages" of GS and twisting them together. It definitely takes a delicate touch.

I won't be adding any more details to the fist and I figure it becomes a bit over the top, and leaving it flat will allow symbols/markings to be painted on at the discretion of the client.

I've been rather distracted the last few weeks but it's time to get things rolling again.

First up we have another Mark II power armoured character belonging to the Word Bearers legion. The brief for the conversion was quite detailed, in this case, mostly Mark II pattern but with Mark III style armour plating on the legs - and also in a running pose. Space Marines in running poses are always difficult to make look "proper". Making this has been time consuming (took the legs apart three times before getting the pose I have now) but it's been worth it.

The head is originally from a Berserker mini with the silly fangs removed and normal teeth sculpted in their place. Not sure I like it or not yet, so I may yet replace it.

More updates incoming from other projects...

the running word bearer is awesome, with the teeth at the moment, he kinda looks like jaws from moonraker... which is cool, but i bet when painted the teeth won't stand out so much, thats probably what do the eye...

the captain rocks. that power fist screams i may be slow but you will go splat when this hits you....

your skill sir, makes me sick.

show me more

:P

Hmm, I knew I'd forgotten to do something lately... time for an update.

I have more detailed posts regarding these conversions on my website: masteroftheforge.com for anyone wanting more, but for now here's the basics of what I've been doing recently.

Pair of lightning claws converted from two copies of the FW Huron claw.

Artscale Chaplain in Mark V artificer armour.

Usual approach to the conversion. The helm is from the equipment pack of the stock GW Chaplain Biker model. The crozius is a power axe handle with the iron halo from the Sangiunor model attached. I'll be using this "pattern" of crozius again in future for my own Lamenters Chaplain.

High Lord Commander Culln

I like the artwork on the cover of IA9 so much I decided to make a conversion of it. It's well underway so far - more updates real soon.

I'm going to be making a series of Terminator Characters that will all be going up for sale on my site. I'm looking for suggestions on what chapters, special characters, themes, etc to base them off so please head over and leave a comment. I'll give a discount to anyone who leaves a suggestion if they would like to buy one of the finished minis.

Being inspired is my main goal when looking in this thread, and I always am. However, I've been having some trouble with my own true-scaling lately. When you do true scale arms out of regular marine arms, what thickness of plasticard do you use for spacers? And do you put on in both the upper and lower arm? Seems to me like I'd need one in both, but it looks strange. Might look better when they are all covered in GS.

Keep up the good work.

It's about 1mm thick and I only add it to the forearms. You should bear in mind that the shoulder joint should be mounted onto the torso a little lower than usual to add a little extra length. It's easy enough to get away with this because the bigger shoulder pads cover the joint so well.

Oh, and yes, everything looks better covered in GS :P

Well the long awaited first Terminator character is nearly finished (work has started on 3 others, btw). The only thing left to do on this mini is to tidy up a few details, rebuild the tip of the sword (had to butcher it to pin it to the base) and finish the cloak which is currently quite plain.

http://www.masteroftheforge.com/files/images/terminatorcharacters/culln/culln9.jpg

Also still need to add a lot of purity seals and rivets.

On the whole, I think it has come together rather nicely. I was fortunate to find I had a couple of brass imperial eagles that fit perfectly on his hip plates. Not sure what else to say at the moment. Questions/comments welcome.

I want you to consider this question I'm about to ask you very carefully...

Are you God?

Marriage proposals and theological questions aside, I have a minor update for you. :-)

I hit a bit of a stumbling block last week, I ran out of Greenstuff *shock horror I know!*

I keep the bulk of my supply in my fridge and thought I still had some stored there, but unfortunately not. So it took me a few days to get some more. The best deal I've found on GS is from the Troll Trader who sells 36 inches for around £8 (including postage). I only link it here because such a good deal deserves a link.

Anyhow, I'm back in stock and managed to finish my Lord Commander Culln project

As you can see the stormbolter arm is not fixed (magnetized) to allow easier painting and ingame repositioning. I'm rather pleased with how the cloak has turned out and am looking forward to attempting it again on some upcoming conversions. I basically rolled out a thin sheet of GS onto some spare plastic that it comes stored in and shaped it into approximately the right shape. Before it had completely cured I attached it to the model and later modelled more shape onto it rather than just have it flat.

I decided not to go overboard with purity seals and stuck with the regular plastic ones. All in all I'm very pleased with the final piece and it does show that Artscale Terminators can be done very nicely. I also love the fact I was able to pull off the commanding stationary pose, as I wasn't sure it was going to work out.

btw: this will be going up for sale in a day or two for anyone interested.

For those who asked for it, here's the scale comparison shot with a regular marine and terminator.

Whilst I had no GS I tried my hand with brownstuff (no childish jokes please) that I had l not really given much time to using before. I'm sure it works fine for small sharp details but I was most unsatisfied with it. I simply found it too hard and unworkable for my liking. I did manage to do something with it in the end, so here's a sneak peak of the next project - Chaplain in Terminator armour.

These wouldn't be for a certain Company Master Belial by any chance? They look mighty fine anyway!

Thanks guys.

There's pic of an Assault Terminator on page 31 of the 4th Ed. SM Codex with riveted legs armour. That's what I've tried to capture here, that there is an extra layer of armour riveted onto his normal Terminator suit, so the greaves are larger than usual. I stuck with the half bionic plastic head on this mini as it seems most suitable fora grizzled old Chaplain (of the 1st company no less). The rest is pretty standard. I'm really keen to keep this mini for myself, but I think I'll put him up for sale and just remake him at a later date when I don't have extra bills to pay :-(

Unfortunately not, these were for a separate project to help someone else out. Speaking of Belial however...

(using the artwork in the DA codex as a reference point).

could i commission some moulds of said parts?

Sorry, but I couldn't do that. Even though they'll be moulds of my own sculpts, the design is still GWs IP. Selling them would be questionable, making them for my own use not so much.

heres my question, why arent you working for gw already?

You sir are a huge inspiration! Thanks to you I started making some Actual Scale Marines of my own (for a very secretive project *looks around*). Again, you are a huge inspiration to me and my hat goes off to you. By the way, your Culln sculpt is just..... EPIC!

Edit: Forgot to mention that I visit your site almost every day for inspiration and to use your tutorials on sculpting.

Mr.Malevolent

Awesome stuff. Could we please see a size comparison with one of your new terminators and one of your true scale marines please?

Sorry I forgot this time, but I'll try and do so in future. I should mention however that all my artscale/truescale power armour stands at the same height and terminator armour at the same height (a little taller than the power armour), as I have a fairly precise methodology.

heres my question, why arent you working for gw already?

I ain't that good. I have considered applying for a trainee sculpting position, but I'm not certain I'd want to work for them again.

Thank you kindly, very nice of you to say.

This as you may have read in my previous posts was meant to be Belial, Master of the Deathwing, but along the way he turned into a librarian. This is the creative process at work, sometimes you set out to do one thing but it'll end up as something else. In this case I just couldn't seem to get the arms I'd selected for Belial to work with the body I'd made. The robes I'd already added were screaming out librarian so I kinda just went with it, I also had a spare force sword from the earlier Ezekiel conversion. The storm shield is a FW black templar shield filed down (note: because this is a resin piece I filed it under running water to avoid nasty dust).

At the moment the pose and basic features are all done. All I need to do to finish him is the fine details. Not sure yet what to add to the shield, and the crux terminator is giving me headaches (already made two unsuccessful attempts). Also plenty of purity seals and probably a suitable banner to go on too.

Not sure I'm be attempting Belial after this but you never know. The next project in the works will be Arjac Rockfist.

I'm selling each of these terminator characters at £100 a piece. If you're interested in purchasing one or would like to commission one (for the time being I'm taking on commissions of these terminators, in small numbers) then please email me. The last two were sold before I even got around to putting the details on the For Sale page on my website, so best be quick.
