Some of last night's progress. Lion is just basecoated and washed for now - aiming to get a white lion of chrace look to it. Cloak needs a wee bit more done after I finish the lion.

I was thinking of using the Ultima border from the FW decal along the base and (depending on my ability to paint a straightish line) an adjoining one up the sides.

Brief back seat for the Chapter Master.....

 

ploughing through stuff trying to get 500pts ready for a game on Friday. Rules state no FW unfortunately so repurposing the units to fit Codex:SM.

 

This is the 2nd tac squad. Still got 2 Volkites (cout as Melta) and a 5 man (4 missile) dev squad to go....

 

There not finished yet, but will do for Friday. Still to be decal'd, detailed and weathered, but that can wait.

So i managed to get the other 7 guys finished, then double checked my army list and discovered i can't add and had painted 2 more bolter marines than necessary! Oh well, it's 2 less to paint later

here's a few pics of some of the WiP on 2 of those 7. I've got a light tent now that i'm playing about with so will try and get some better pics up later on.

First, a volkite caliver (used as a Melta for the 40k games). Quick attempt at a glow effect with a combo of white and nihalak oxide

Next, the Devestator sgt. Quck red on the cloak using an even base of mech red, a few thin coats of blood red and a dousing (or two!) of baal red.

I think the blue recipe is here somewhere, (although it varies a little...) but basically,

Black primer

Mordian blue overbrush

Drybrush progressively through to nearly Ultramarine blue

Heavy wash with Asurmen blue

Apply some final highlight with near ultramarine blue

Quick update on Khârn's progress. Not much, but grey base washed with mic of nuln oil/ogryn flesh then reapplied the grey and worked up though many washy layers of white. Still needs a little tidying up, but more or less done. Next up is the metallics.

Wow Rider, you've really thhrown a wrench into my plans now... Having recently read trough the fluff of the 3 books from FW recently, I'd been tempted to get a new army again and had pretty much settled on a choice, but these ultras are sublime! I'll have to do a few more test models before i can finally decide for sure...
