Bit of progress tonight.

 

I decided I'd not manage to paint him on he base as there was too much going on and would end up making mistakes and continually correcting stuff after... So popped him off the base and got cracking on.

 

Finished the base, bar edging and some tufts of grass - these will be done right at the end of the painting.

And made some progress on the dread himself too. Mainly finishing off reclining the details in black and almost competes the main metal areas. Also got some codex grey on the knees and helm.

Next job is to start going through each area one at a time and finishing it. Ie: I'll finish up the left left, then the right, then the torso completed, then the cannon arm, etc.

Progress update, small, but beginning to look more complete!!

 

Got the knees done. Not very exciting admittedly! And I put a little white on the head just to stop it going to waste...

Also worked on the Kheres barrels, giving them a kind of heat stained effect from all that blasting away at the heretic scum.

And tonight I worked on the gold. Got he shoulders and the Aquila done, also did the Oath scrolls, just because.

Base is looking sweet and I really like the blue you are building on the Contemptor

Basic paint job finished an he's reattached to his base.

 

Following a variety of comments I added more crimson to the word bearer to make him more in keeping with the Calth attack.

Now I say the basic paint job, because I still need to go back and add some character detail, legion markings, chipping, weathering, etc.

 

But the end is in sight!

Well, thanks to Pig Of Sparta he's not finished.... I blame him for satisfying my request for Ultramarine Brass Etch from Forgeworld.

 

So in a slight lull over the Christmas period, I have attached a few pieces there of.

 

I've learnt a few things doing this:

 

1) FW brass etch looks very very cool.

2) The real cool bits are the wrong damn size for where you wanted them to go.

3) Apply the brass etch BEFORE undercoating and painting in future cause its a PitA to fit to non flat surfaces and now requires a good chunk of cleaning around it.

4) That stuff is bloody sharp!

So you will paint this brass etch stuff up right ?

Yes. Got it painted black last night. Need to paint it up and them tidy up around it before moving on to the final stage of weathering and chipping to finish him.

The first couple of bits of brass etch are painted. The Ultima mounted on the Raptor in the first pick had a hole in it, so I've had a go at repairing it, but it's not 100%

Well painting progress is buggered until I replace the 3 of 6 halogen spots in my painting area that have gone POP over the last 2 days.....

 

So instead I've had a go at trying to create the praetor pattern helmet. Thanks go to Apologist for both the inspiration and the instruction :)

The Contemptor is finished and now sitting in the Hall of Honour.

First infantry model assembled. This is put together from a variety of bits: FW parts, BA torso, SM bits, GK bits....

 

Anyway here he is. Brother Sergeant Marcus Tullus, Veteran of the Skaldire Compliance. Tullus began the Skaldire campaign as a demisquad leader under the late Sergeant Galian Fordan. When Fordan was lost in combat during the Persidia Incident, Chapter Master Arvael Leonid personally gave Tullus the brevet rank of Sergeant. By the end of the Compliance, Tullus had had his rank not only ratified by Captain Battias, but received a citation for valour from Primarch Guilliman personally.

 

His citation was marked by a presentation of an Artifice cuirass from the company armoury, a relic he wears with pride to this day.

I've also had a go at converting mk7 legs to mk4. These are the first rough draft. I think with a bit of tidying up, a few bead studs, painting, chipping and weathering should render them acceptable if not exactly what you'd call works of art....

Well, it wasn't... :(

 

So Tonight's work sees me using a random selection of HH bits to work with (at the moment until my FW stuff is sorted), so using the resources I had, I've put together another 6 marines.

 

5 of these are using the converted mk7-mk4 legs that were shown in a previous post.

 

I still also had 1 mk2 body, but no power plant, so some improvising was required...

It's one of the old chaos plastic packs, with the arms trimmed back and then tidied up. Dies the job as can be seen on marine number 1.

The next 2 use a Maxmini steam knight head as a Praetor pattern helmet.

This guy has an RTB01 Bolter with the mag moved to stay in keeping with the FW rehash of the umbra Bolter.

The majority of the shoulder pads are the large rimmed ones from the Grey Knights power armour kit, just with the book removed. The extra gubbins is a mix of GK bits and marine bits.

These guys are looking great and I really like what you did with the Chaos backpack, looks almost as good as the FW one. Looking forward to the progress here.

Next up is a quick concept for Chapter master Arvael Leonid, "The Lion of Macragge"

Still waiting on a few more parts to come in:

 

* wolf guard terminator cloak

* Cataphractii left arm (thanks to PigOfSparta)

* Volkite charger

 

Once these are in the plan is to drape the cloak, remove the legs and tail and replace with those of the chariot lion that head can from. These will then be blended together with a touch of greenstuff sculpting.

 

Or at least that the plan!!

Still very much WIP, with a lot of work to do filling using both types of greenstuff. Need to around the original door outlines and fill them in, then the gapin big holes around the exhausts. Them need to trim the new upper exhausts to blend into the old lower ones.

 

 

But I think it looks okay.

Tonight's progress was small. But it took a while to build up. The last few gaps were filled with liquid green stuff an once dry this was sanded down. The LGS was then diluted down to a paint like consistency and "washed" over the converted area. I'll leave this til tomorrow night and then smooth it down.

Rhino has been undercoated and the blue worked up and washed down in a similar way to the contemptor. Next is to rehighlight it.

I honestly have no idea why you don't have more followers on this log. The work here is outstanding, I really like the look of the 'Lion' nice conversion. The rhino is a simple swap but looks great as well. Fantastic work buddy.
