I must admit that i have not.  I don't really have the time to set down a guaranteed contribution.  Between work, family and commission time, i'm rather struggling for my own hobby time.  Especially when people go and throw challenges and ideas at me to distract me from the hobby stuff i'm meant to be doing....

A little bit more work done.

 

I originally painted the drape as a pale leather / tanned hide colour, but while I was mulling over how to decorate it I had a different idea, so ended up repainting in black.

 

The decals need another wash with microsol before tidying up and adding a little shade into the recesses, and the black need another highlight or two.

So what I'm trying to decide on is the basing. I'm thinking of sticking to predominantly black/near black/very very dark grey. But I'm open to suggestion ;)

Thanks 1kH! Was an interesting learning curve. I should be acquiring photoshop in the next month or so, rather than Serif photoplus which is what I used on this. Hopefully I can start playing around with more pics too.

Next up is work in progress for the start of an Imperial Fists commission. There was a separate thread for this but it seems to have gone AWOL since the last forum outage

First up are 20 Legion Tactical marines in mk3 Iron Armour. The brief is, as before, to portray the VII at the Defence of the Imperial Palace. They are to be "dirty, beaten up and looking like they've gone through hell and back".

I’m working up 5 to complete so the client can give me feedback before I plough into the remaining 15.

This was a test model I banged out in a couple of hours to give the client and myself an idea of what we were trying to achieve.

Black undercoat, followed by an Iyanden Dark Sun basecoat:

Wash (drown) with Gryphonne Sepia, relayered with Iyanden Dark Sun, highlighted with 50/50 Iyanden Dark Sun/Sunburst Yellow, then final highlight 25/75 same colours. Reline the detail in black.

Chips and scratches applied by brush using some trompe l'oiel techniques, then dirtied up with a mix of powders. I think in retrospect both are overdone and were done quickly, so not quite how the finished ones will be. Also, as a further note to self – allow varnish spray to fully dry before photographing. I’ve also since hit it with a blast of Testors Dullcoat – first time I’d used it (this was before doing the Cataphractii above) and my God, it’s a little miracle in a can.

Next up was trying to replicate this with the newer GW colours, but also using an Army Painter desert yellow basecoat spray.

The commission is to finish the models from how they arrive. In this case they arrived assembled (save bolters) after having
been sprayed directly with AP Desert Yellow over the bare resin. I know AP claim that the basecoat sprays don't need an undercoat, but the bit of preshading a decent black undercoat would have provided would have helped me no end....
Also, the spraying the components without cleaning the joints up before gluing meant that after their trip through Royal Mail, they arrived in rather a lot of bits. I'm still trying to find a mk3 pad....

So now here's some more WiP shots.

This is them after I managed to clean the joints and reassemble them. Iyanden Dark Sun for comparison to the AP desert yellow.

Attached to bases and given a thin coverage of Iyanden Dark Sun to get the recesses the spray hadn't reached.
(Although the client has now provided bottled of Desert Yellow)

These were now at the stage I'd expected them to be at when they arrived.....

19 of these are washed in Gryphonne Sepia, 1 in Seraphim sepia.

It's a bit like "Where's Wally?" Or "Where's Waldo?" For the 'mericans....

I started with one of the mk3s as a bit of a test using the newer yellows.

Ie: replacing Iyanden Dark Sun with Averland Sunset and Sunburst Yellow with Yriel. Finished with a very thin layer of pure Yriel Yellow.

The yellow recipe, if anyone is interested is:

AP Desert Yellow spray, tidied up with either Iyanden Dark Sun or Desrt yellow

Seraphim (or Gryhonne – both seem to work fine) Sepia heavily washed

Averland Sunset layer

50/50 Averland Sunset/Yriel Yellow layer

Yriel Yellow layer - thinned lots x2(x3 on shoulders)

This stage is getting nearer to done: just the metals, then
tidy up, decals, base and weathering to do.

Well after Apologist and Doghouse returned the fray with their true/artscale marines, I was drawn back to my Minotaurs:

One is all done (see Hall of Honour link), 2 are assembled but need detailing, 5 are in early stages. That's 8. I was only going to do 5, but I've now secured two more pairs of tartaros legs to bring the squad up to 10 :)

 

Thanks go again to Apologist for inspiration on getting my arse in gear and getting some more done on these. They'll still be dribs and drabs if progress rather than full on progress, as I have to fit them around 15 imperial fists....

I haven't checked this thread for a while and all I can say is 'Oooft' some awesome work going on here buddy, really liking the Ultra Termis and the Fists are coming along really well. Cant wait to see more finished Minotaur's as well.
