Hey all, just thought id post up a pic for my next project. Its going to end up being a mini diorama involving an Imperial Fist at the moment of the end of the Siege of Terra. Im hoping to capture a more tragic scene than one of celebration.

Anyways, heres the first test fit for the legs, which will be the bade of a non aggressive pose. I dont want to use the words 'calm' or 'relaxed' because thats not what the marine is meant to be feeling, but thats essentially what im going for.

C&C always welcome!

Thanks,

Cutting out those feet is always so fun isn't it? Anyways, looks good so far.

Haha yeah i used to spend hours with an exacto knife, these days though i just cut them out of one set of legs, and then cut the greave away from the feet on a second set of legs.

Just signed up - happy to help in any way I can (I have a big bat if you need anyone to enforce the rules ;) ).

Hey Folks,

Well this is where i have got to so far,

Did blazing orange instead of fiery orange on the highlights and then bronzed flesh also did hawk turquoise on the wings.

Cheers for the suggestions Pig Of Sparta think it looks alot better than what codex grey would.

Do you think the armor highlights are ok? I think i prob need a better brush though lol ;)

Anyway be as harsh as you like or feel you need to folks i will try not to cry. Although RL has just kicked me in the preverbial so i cant make any promises lol :P

I agree with Skirax. A wash would help the armour stand out more.

Also cleaning up around the face. It looks like you got some skin onto the hair. If you clean that up he'll look pretty good. :)

The wash should also tone down some of the glossyness from the picture.

@ Khornate Killer: Instead of washing everything, (cause it'll cover over your hihglights) what you could try doing is washing just the recesses in the armour with a very dark red. Try mixing dark flesh and scab red if you have it, or scorched brown and blood red. The other thing you could try although it'll take a bit of experimentation is using green to shade the recesses. My understanding of colour theory is basic at best, but I've read that uisng green can make the red pop more becuase they're opposites on the 'colour wheel'.

Either way he's looking pretty cool now and I'm glad the Hawk Turquoise worked out well for you. I've just started using it to highlight black and I'm thinking about not looking back ;)

@ Lestat: The showcase forum is yours to moderate if you want. I can't really see much stuff needing moderated to be honest what with us all coming from this forum, but the post is there if you'd like it ;).

@ Shortsonfire79: you're most welcome to join up, and thanks for checking out the forum. I'll add your name to the membes list.

Glad everyone seems to like the forum, although if you have any feedback, ideas or stuff you'd like to see then plaease let me know :)

Thanks

Hello everyone, I've just joined the IBH, and am glad to be a part of it.

If anyone wants to look at my work so far, you can see my WIP thread (link in my signature), and drop a comment. If I have anything specific to ask, I'll be sure to direct my questions here.

I like that Astorath, KhornateKiller, and I agree with the others on the muscle wash (sounds like some kind of skin-care product). I would like to say, however, that it looks like he's falling over backwards under the weight of the axe. Is that how he's supposed to be posed?

I'd honoured to help moderate the showcase forum!

Do we need a set of forum rules written up? If so, I'd be willing to do that. I have some free time over the next couple of evenings.

Either way he's looking pretty cool now and I'm glad the Hawk Turquoise worked out well for you. I've just started using it to highlight black and I'm thinking about not looking back

James, Turquoise is a really good colour for highlighting black. Especially mixed with black. If you thin out a lot of premixed paints, namely Andrea's line of Don't Mix just Paint sets, you will notice that almost every single one of them besides the darkest shadow has an almost identical colour to hawk turquoise. It's really quite amazing when you think about it. Because it's something you really don't notice while your painting unless you look.

My BA Terminators were all painted using Turquoise, but it was because the paints I used to paint the robes already have the pigmentation in them.

It's a cool concept.

Hey guys, another post from me. My current Death Company list minus the two Dreadnoughts is now all primed! :)

Do they all have jump packs? Thats got to be one hard hitting and expensive list! No scoring units either - but who needs them when you're going to kill everything else anyway!

My kind of army!

@ Lestat: Yeah, if you don't mind doing that, it'd be cool. With two kids on the go it's a little difficult to get time to do stuff on the computer during the day sometimes .

I'll update your permissions on the forum shortly as well :yuck:

@ Master Chaplain Astador: I din't know that, but it certainly explains why it works so well. I've always thought that the GW way of highlighting black wasn't quite right, it always looks a bit too harsh. I guess it works if you want a glossy black, but I think the blue/green hue that Hawk Turquoise gives works much better.

Hello everyone, I have a question:

Do you think I'm doing these camo schemes properly?

gallery_50723_4325_125606.jpg

From right to left, urban scheme, forest scheme, desert scheme.

My technique is just random lines and spots of various colors that go with the theme.

Do you have any tips or suggestions for improvement, or do you have preferred methods for painting camo?

The Normish Posted Today, 09:39 AM

Hello everyone, I have a question:

Do you think I'm doing these camo schemes properly?

Looks good from the pic mate, are they part of the same squad, because my only advice would be to keep the scheme the same for the whole squad. Personally i prefer the urban scheme.

Heres just another update to the mini-diorama for Pig Of Sparta. This image is of the dead Son of Horus marine. Ive seen a few dead marines of late in the WIP and Hall of Honor sections and every time there is posts below it saying 'he needs to look more dead'. Often if you put together a marine model and lie it down it wont look dead, and most of the time it can ruin the entire model or diorama. I try to make my corpses as flat as possible, and never put a back pack on. You can tell its a marine without it and it almost doubles the height of the corpse when its on there. On this particular model i wanted it to look more like he was killed from a bombardment, as opposed to a bolter round or something. Because of the (perhaps over thought) emotions i want in this piece i felt it would be more appropriate if the corpse wasn't killed by the Imperial Fist, and was killed by more indirect means.

Thanks for looking!

Replica you should build and send me a Sanguinary priest of awesomeness ;)

All in good fun. ;)

Normish:

It looks right but without a clear photo it blends a little more. If you get a better picture I am sure we can give you a better answer and advice to help with anything that may be wrong. :D

James:

Yeah GW likes to do Stark line highlighting which is ok, well alright I suppose with their choice of colours, but for the broad highlights that are commonly seen amongst professional and historic painters and even lately in the GW 'Eavy Metal team the Turquoise recipe seems to work better because it isn't as flat.

Lestat:

I posted my lists in my WIP thread. My 1500 pt DC list is 20 Death Company with packs, Astorath, Lemartes, and 2 DC Dreadnoughts. :)
