G'day Brothers,

Heres an update on the mini-diorama- Its still got a little way to go but i took the opportunity to get some pics now that i can put it together.

The dead Sons of Horus marine is pretty much done apart from a little more grime, and ill probably get rid of some of the blood.

The Captain's flesh is only started in the pic, and same with the bolter. I might weather him a little more, but im going to wait and think about it right at the end.

C&C always welcome, thanks!

Nice indeed, but I think the Son of Horus is a little too dull. Maybe it's just the picture quality, but he doesn't stand out in the scene, unlike the Imperial Fist. The first glance I took at your picture, it looked like you had yet to put whatever it was the IF was facing on the base.

Speaking of which, I really like your yellow and the Mk. IV helmet.

Just ......WOW! I like the fact that you have used empty space on the base which concentrates the eye on the main parts of the diorama. The IF has a certain RT-era feel to him as well. The Son looks like he's been rolled over by a tank!

Just one question - why does the dead Son have a post-heresy bolter?

Cheers mate, yeah the angle looks more like the corpse is buried into the base, but hes actually on top of it with rubble covering him slightly, i will need to get some better shots i think, they were kinda spur of the moment, but ill get my light box out and get some good ones!

And as for the bolter- the goodwyn pattern bolter is pre-heresy:

Wow. I wasn't prepared for that at all.... Those mini's are looking great. I really like the free hand on the Fist and I think you've nailed the pepperminty colour of the Sons of Horus too.

If it looks this good in the spur of the moment pics I can't wait to see some 'properly made' ones :)

Thanks

James

I haven't updated in a couple days, but I haven't gotten much done until today. I started working on a Daemon Prince for a Dual competition.

So here is the first shots of the Prince. Again from my phone, the camera battery is dead.

Wow, I really like the skin tone on that Daemon Prince, care to share the recipie?

The more of these I see popping up the more I want to get one. I think I might just be able to scrape the cash together for one as well.... must resist... so much to paint already... damned shiny new stuff and it's insidious pull!

Really nice skin tone on the DP ;)

I have just picked one of these up aswell, I really like the kit its got some nifty bits in it, Im going to do mine as a Night Lord one for a competition coming up over on Throne Of Skulls only thing is the power armor front doesn't go round the back it looks like just "demon flesh" so not sure how i going to do that, I also want to try and turn the axe into a chain axe using plasti-card which i not tried using before for something like this, Or at all for that matter,

There's no update on the DA guy with NMM yet, I having a go at doing the gold on him nmm to, Although i know it wont look quite right as i have different light sources on it at the moment but i want to try and get the effect right first before worrying about OSL ;)

Wish me luck guys will get a bit done tonight so will post pics later :D

Also Replica your diorama looks incredible cant wait to see it finished !!! HURRY UP !!! LOL :D

Hm I think I can let my recipe go. ;)

I primed him black with a dusting of white over it to create the basic highs and lows.

Then I basecoated his skin 1:1 Bootstrap Leather: Ordic Olive

Once I have a nice even coverage I begin applying the highlights by adding some Jack Bone to the mix at 1:1:1

I highlight up to almost pure Jack Bone using glazes and washes to maintain an even flow over the model.

Then I begin shading with Sanguine Base: water 1:2

Once that dries I start the redo the lights and adding more shade to areas that are constantly exposed and strained, namely the knuckles and knees.

:)

KK: Can't wait to see how yours turns out!

And James you really should buy one! haha

I like the skin tone on the Demon Prince. I was thinking of getting on for a primarch conversion (a loyal primarch), but I have realized the shoulders are disproportionate for a non-demon entity. I plan to try my hand at sculpting my own once I get settled in Va. I will post my WIP as it progresses.

Hey Killer,

That gold has turned up pretty good. Maybe needs a few more layers to blend the colours better. Perhaps a mid tone between the dark shading and the main colour and a final highlight on the very sharpest points in a near-white. Still, I'd be really happy with it the way it is

I agree with Power Hungry Monkey. I think that NMM gold has come up really well. If you hit the very edges of your highlights with a tiny amount of Skull White it'll add the pop I think you're looking for.

For a first attempt though you're definately doing really well.

thanks

James

Wait a tick!

You see how without the head, the Daemon Prince looks like he has a massive eye sticking out of his neck? With a little greenstuff, that could be a good idea!

Otherwise, I like the Emperor's Champion quite a lot, though a view from the side might help us see his pose a little better.

That Daemon Prince is coming along nicely. I've so far resisted the urge to raid the back of the sofa to find the money to buy one (nice try though Brother Chaplain Astador). Maybe once I get the BA comission I'm working on out of the way then I'll buy some shiny new things.

I quite like the look of the Emperor's Champion as well, definately better than the stock metal mini.

cheers

James

I guess I can double post this here. More people probably look at this thread more than mine now a days

Status update. Arms are glued, I need to reposition the head. The shield won't be glued until after I paint.
