Glory and Hate! A Marines Malevolent Project

1000heathens, that is what i thought about the Malevolents, being a fleet based crusade chapter. So it is good that we Malevolent's think alike :)

I plan on having more chaplains, apothecaries, and techmarines due to the constant upkeep of the company and chapter.

Can't wait to see your rhino. Keep up the good work.

Dang!

These look amazing! Because the pics are really close up you can see the details you have put in. Really cool weathering and I'm looking forward to see more.

Love the fluff you've invented for these guys. Be wary though: "the ends justifies the needs" is a slippery slope no loyalist marine should dare to venture (remember Soul Drinkers). Before you know it you are working on another CSM project hahahaha :P

But seriously, keep it up!

Cheers,

Vandael

1000heathens just wanted to chip in and say what an amazing project I think this is the way you are painting those MM is absolutely stunning they really look like they've been through hell and still haven't come out the otherside!

Can't wait to see your next additions to them.

Also I feel you have captured the arrogance of the MMs perfectly in the poses of the models!!

Quick question how long is it taking you to paint each model?

Great job. Need to see more... maybe a rhino.

Funny you should mention it, bro.... ^_^

I've been sick as hell, painting is kinda hard when you're coughing up your lungs up. So, instead, I've been focusing my energy into salvaging this beast. Although most of my vehicles will be going unadorned (to the MM, I believe they'd just see them as tools, not relics), a vehicle that has history stretching back to the Great Crusade would be treated much better, and given honours and battle rolls. As my fluff I made up for the MM has them believing that they are the last inheritors of the Emperor's ideal of the Great Crusade, items from that era are treated with reverence. On a modeling standpoint...-sigh-...it was nice going down memory lane re-building an old Mk. I, I also now remember how much of a pain in the ass it was lining up the hull during assembly, and how much I hated the gaps between the tracks and hull. Ah well, a little green stuff solved that problem.

@Vandael: Remember, Sarpeadon started listening to a cowardly mortal (a thief preist, at that) at the beginning, then began working to protect them at all costs. The fact that the Soul Drinkers are now permenantly seconded to the target practice range onboard the Phalnax proves that hanging out with mortals is a real bad idea. :P

@Bolt16: On a good, quiet day, I can finish a mini in about a day. Since good quiet days are a myth though, 2 to 3 days. :D

I'll start getting some paint on O'l Bertha as soon as the green stuff dries. Thanks for all the comments, guys and gals!

I like the white and green paint job... but doesn't really go with the theme :D

Nice job cleaning up the antique  . Should look really good when done.

I hear you about coughing up a lung... I'm glad I had a second one. First one sounded like it was on it's last legs. Gotta love winter and the wretched diseases that come with it. DAMN YOU NURGLE!!!!

I hope I did justice to this classic....

Next up is finishing the rest of the Tactical squad. I've got some good ideas running around in my head, hopefully I can put them down into plactic and paint correctly. Thanks for all the well-wishes, my lungs have somewhat returned to normal.

@lordof plague: I know you're out there, bro. Go ahead and glance through this thread at my new marines, and look upon your death... :D

@Vairocanum: The bases were actually bits of left-over green stuff that I chopped up irregularly. Glued 'em on the base, painted it codex grey, washed with devlan mud, then a drybrush of codex grey. The helmet used to be the head of the Missle launcher marine from the black reach set. Almost all the marines from that box have met terrible, screaming deaths at my hand, lol.

@Cpt. Mick: As always, thank you brother. Your Death Guard are looking great, by the way.

Sneak peek of the new guy, still in progress....

He's gonna be somewhere between Pasanius of the Ultramarines and Grendel of the Iron Warriors...a giant, bare-knuckle fighter, filled with rage and hate. I wanted him to be huge, but still not screw his squad during games because of LOS, so I gave him a hunched stance, with his feet braced wide. You can imagine his height if he stood straight (almost a good head taller than his brothers) Also, instead of going for the salvaged Termie armour like Pasanius wore, I went for a bastardized suit of Mk. I thunder armour, dug out of the furthest, cobweb covered corner of the armoury. The old Mk. I used straps and clasps, so it seemed suitible for easy adjustment to an oversized Astartes.

I love your posing style. The models are very dynamic.

I love the idea behind the painting style.

I have a couple of notes though:

1) rust doesn't really fit on marines.First of all I suppose they have stainless steal armours. Secondly, if you allow an armour to rust it is going to get ruined in few years, while MMalevolant have the same armour since thousands years. It means they care about them and clean the eventual rust away.

2) paint scretches. you paint them randomly on every open surface. In that way they look odd and not realistic at all.

They should places in "friction" areas, where the metal touch other metal. AKA external plates, outside metal joints.

e.g. in that rhino, scratches should be place where the passengers enter and exit the vehicle and where it could hit environment obstacle while monouvring.

Also I suggest to make them smaller and thinner (in this way you can make more of them).

Keep on with the good work!

@Dobermann: The rust discussion came up earlier, and though I could attempt to justify it through a variety of reasons, it comes down to 'I like the rust effect'. I understand where you're coming from and your reasoning, I'm just kindly declining your opinion. :( Not to mention, they look like yellow and steel dalmations without the rust. And as for the chipping, I have attempted to hit impact areas over friction areas. Knees, knuckles, etc.. and was running with the thought that severe dents in the warplate from combat operations would just be hammered out, but being resource poor, not painted over immedietly. That's how broke my MM are, they can't even pay for a can of Testors, lol. I have gotten carried away with some of the chipping, though, I'll keep it toned down for now. Thanks for the input, though, man!

1000heathens, what is the scale of your "Pasnaius" model to your other Malevolents? I always loved that idea that not all marines are the same size.

Get work though. I say it is your Malevolents paint them as you see them

I would love to hear more of your fluff for them or ideas. So far your fluff is going pretty much how i see them with some differences.

Are you building your army by a list or by purchase? If a list, what is it?

I love the marines you have done so far. The latest in thunder armor is my favorite by far. Have you considered giving him two power fists instead of regular hands? I know it's not really the best way to arm a marine but I love the old rogue trader marine with twin power fists and this model has a similar stance. I am just hoping to see an updated version and I think yours would make an excellent candidate.
