Eerie
*sigh* Honey badgers aside...here's the next WIP. Kyres, formerly of the Lamenters, Sword-arm of King Akan. [Awesome pictures] I imagine Kyres as reletivly in control of his sanity, and tough as nails to boot. The memories and experiences of the Badab War are still fresh in his mind; from constant frantic boarding actions as the war began, to the frenzied street to street fights, and CQC deep within the Palace of Thorns as the slaughter continued. This man is a veteran of the worst Astartes on Astartes conflict since the Heresy itself, and I wanted to show it on the mini. I chose the Mk. IV chestplate, Mk. VI legs and shoulderpad to help reinforce this idea, the improved frontal armour looked incredibly tough to me together. The 'Icon' came out well, in my opinion. I was quite pleased with it, and I'm looking forward to painting him up. The Gladius is a relic from his days as a Lamenter, though the old hilt has been shattered years ago. A Red Scorpion femur made an excellent replacement, heh heh. As for his pose, I chose a steady trot, to help reinforce not only his skill in CQC, but also his level of control and (at least partial) discipline. Looking forward to painting this guy, hope you guys like him! Did you hack into my brain or something? My jaw dropped. All this stuff about him was not in my character write-up, just in my head, yet you nailed him down perfectly. I am at loss here how you could possibly know that. firestorm40k
He's outstanding Heathens, I don't know how but you improve with each mini! :D B) Seeing as he's a Badab War veteran, is the skeleton an Astarted one, or an ordinary mortal? If it's the former, I don't know if you've thought of adding details to suggest it was an Astartes - e.g. Service Studs, or carved inscriptions on the bones* somewhere? *in 'The Inquisition War' trilogy, there's an Imperial Fist Marine whose past time is to carve Codex teachings or seomthing on to the bones of his own hand. As you do.. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/241518-akans-reavers/page/19/#findComment-3029643 Share on other sites
Eerie
I would say the skeleton is just a "nobody". It sits on the shield, so gets shattered and needs replacement in probably every battle anyway. If he finds a dead Astartes that he can strip of his flesh it is all the better, but I can't imagine he has some sort of "reserve stock" on Marine skeletons, so if he doesn't fight/kill a Marine in a while, he has to take an ordinary human. On the other hand, a guy collecting dead Marines for use as shield decoration is also somewhat appealing... Machine God
It is just a normal human skeleton. Notice the ribcage has individual ribs they are not fused together, which is what would happen in Astartes due to the Ossmodula implant. Simples! Biaz
Ahhh, the brilliance and uniqueness of this model cannot be justified, only the Gods themselves can lavish these workes with praise they deserve! Honestly, that shield and the bone sword, not to mention the sweet idea of the icon on the breastplate ;) This is why we'll follow you into the pits of Hell! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/241518-akans-reavers/page/19/#findComment-3029714 Share on other sites

Looking forward to painting this guy, hope you guys like him! Now that I have more time, I would like to come back to your post; to the enjoyment or annoyance of the other thread readers, whatever ^_^ I just re-read my character write up, and thought all that you could have possibly extracted from it was a very general image of how he works. But you seem to be capable to extract from those few unspecific lines very well what the original author (me) has in mind. And no, I'm not just fluttering you, I am honest here. Yes, I imagined him as a really tough veteran, witness to some gruesome fighting, he possibly murdered dozens of fellow Astartes when he was still regarding himself as a loyal Space Marine. These experiences burned themselves into his mind, and he just swallows it down and sees quite rationally what it all means. He may be a Blood Angel successor, but he is not a raving, blood craving lunatic (I made a point when I did not make him into a "Death Company gone wrong" Khornate guy!), he controls his thoughts and takes his time to think about himself and the position he is in. He hates the Imperium, he hates Huron and his pseudo-idealistic independence goals, yet he is not the guy to take the banner and rally men around him. He is in search of an accomplished leader whom he can follow and who tells him what to do with that genetically enhanced capacity to rip human beings apart. And if he finds one, he accomplishes his entire existence to that person's cause. Someone completely un-doctrinal like Akan. Yes, you nailed him down perfectly. Thank you! Brother Excedis
That is an outstanding model. Each one you have produced thus far has just nailed the overall idea of hte character down so perfectly it hit every minute unspoken detail. Then you paint them. It just absolutely stuns me as to what you are capable of. I look forward to this thread (and formerly your marines malevolent) because of the work I see produced. And then the humbleness and friendliness of the guy producing them. Makes dreary military college life a little less dreary when things like this exist to look forward to. All brown nosing aside :D As Deus Ex Ferrum said for his character I just cannot wait to see what you do with Apostolos. I fell like I made him to plain or even dreary...I was gunning for one image and I'm not sure how well I spelled him out. So I am waiting to see what you do with him....and then treasure that picture as one of true awesomeness!! ;) Keep it up! Hyaenidae
@Firestorm: Eerie has it right, the skeleton is just some poor 'redshirt' who ended up ticking off Akan at some point. For a Chaos Reaver, Akan is actually pretty fair to his mortal troops....but failure is still unacceptable, and dealt with brutally. Glad you like him! @Biaz: Thanks man! Just wait til you see Callor.... @Deus: Hey, glad you're back! Hastur is on my WIP table right now, expect a PM in a day or two with some questions, brother. @Eerie: Glad you approve of him, hope you like the finished product! @Excedis: Thanks man! I'm humbled y'all like him, and the others as well. SMC, huh? Good stuff man, good luck with your studies. (P.S. Point the claymore towards the enemy... :P ) @whythre: Lol, totally unintentional, I just figured the poor bugger took a boltround to the chest. Thanks, man! Kyres, the Sword-Arm of the King, is now finished! What a challenge it was to paint this son of a :cuss , lol. "But Heathens, you paint yellow all the freakin' time!" you say. The challenge, though, was painting this fella a clean, bright yellow. The Lamenters unsubtle heraldry is really a part of their charm, and I was doing my damndest to stay true to that. The 'Icon' came out really well in my opinion, and stands out from it's bearer without seeming out of place. The friggin' Checkers...oh God, the checkers.... Eerie, if you actually have a full army of Lamenters with checks on every one of them, you sir are a brave man, lol! I almost spontaniously combusted trying to paint the checks right. All in all though, I feel pretty good about how Kyres came out, hope y'all think so too. A quick pic of the three completed minis together...despite their different schemes, they look pretty good together, in my opinion. And finally, here's the reason my updates have been a bit slow...I got to do some 'shopping', lol. Thank you tax returns! Enjoy guys and gals, Hastur Rook is next!!! Yogi
Very nice. Kyres looks like he's a bugger to get a photo of with that sheild. But the painting is pretty damn ace. Free hand is great. Old school corsairs are the best corsairs (red ex's). One thing I think that would further tigthen your painting is the highlight of black with grey. Ah basically thinner lines. For the next one anyway. Don't airlock me. EDIT: Oh I forgot nice scenery. EDIT2: There really do look like a mongrel mob of scum. Great work. Ixion is naturally the coolest of course. lol. Hyaenidae
Thanks, man! *sigh* Sadly, highlighting black is truly the bane of my existance. The Colossus
Man, that "icon" would freak me out. I imagine it being the first thing you see emerging from the cloud of smoke following the boarding torpedoes impact. If I were mortal, I'd run away. :D grats on the painting that yellow is awesome. Azarias
Beautifully done. The icon is the right amount of intimidating, while the three models together look very motley - in a positive sense. Dark Apostle Thirst
They have a few unifying elements - namely the trophy racks on their backs. Tritus is the only one without his spikes' tips being bronze but his horn compensates for that. Their bases are all gore covered, and they all have bone and red somewhere. However, these are all minor, yet effective, things and each is unique in pose and main colour. Well done :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/241518-akans-reavers/page/19/#findComment-3033894 Share on other sites

Hyaenidae
@Colossus: Thanks bro! Not sure on the shade yet, I need to contact Deus prior to painting him and find out how he'd like Hastur to look. @Tanith: Thanks! @Azarius: Thanks man, I appreciate that! @Thirst: I gotta admit, this is the first time I've ever built an army that will specifically look nothing like each other, and it's been a hell of a challenge trying to still make them look cohesive. Also, technically the bases are supposed to be sticky wet mud. Not sure if the pics are being bleached out by my crappy camera, or I need to add a darker brown to the mud mix...hmmmm... A quick side note, Akan is getting something new added to his personal equipment....something furry (mostly).... :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/241518-akans-reavers/page/19/#findComment-3034057 Share on other sites

It looks great as it is - even better now that I'm thinking mud texture instead of a thousand corpses trampled into the ground texture. ThisisJimmy
Fantastic model, really loving how this ban of misfits is coming together. In regards to the mud, I personally see it as mud, but I'm not sure if that is simply because you said it was. I think its the "rediness" of the brown that is causing some confusion. Then again, it could simple be the camera :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/241518-akans-reavers/page/19/#findComment-3034108 Share on other sites
