Sigismund looks wonderful. I like the freehand work you did on the inside of the cloak and the eyes look very intimidating.

As far as the back of the cloak goes, I'd keep it very plain and pragmatic. Remember, we're not talking about those Emperors's Children fancy pants, Sigi is a Son of Dorn. So maybe just a reasonably thick single bar across the bottom, or a thicker bar at the base and a thin line above that.

It's very inspiring to see an army start to come together.

Cheers,

@shaw3029 Thanks, really like your stuff as well!

@Chapter Master Furious Cheers, thanks for the kind words, happy with how he is turning out.

@Honda Thanks Honda, took your advice for the back of the cloak and came up with this.

C&C Most welcome. Hopefully tonight I can get some time and do the base. Other than that I'm still awaiting for the sword!

Looking superb ;) Quick question though: Is there anything you could do about the missing pics in both threads? I can't see any of them as I believe you have gone past your allotted bandwidth on your Photobucket account :) (not that that's your fault, mind you)

What's next up then?

Ludovic

Yeah its a shame about the bandwidth. I do have another account, which is why you can see these. I could just repost the pictures on the threads by uploading them to this one, as the bandwidth on that account won't reset till the 17th.

Might be a job for tonight.

Edit: All the pics of both threads should be showing now, sorry for the inconvenience.

As to what's next, till my mk III armour guys turn up with their boarding shields, probably a mix between the land raider and assault terminators (for 40k).

Well I present my finished version of Sigismund. Finally got a hold of the sword I wanted to use, and tried to emulate the same technique that the Emperor's Champion had on his sword. Overall I think it does the job. Probably the only thing I'm not too happy about would be the base, but I can't think of anything to add at this stage, just glad that I got this guy finished.

As always c&c most welcome.

  • 2 months later...

Well, its been a long hiatus. In part due to the LPC, and also in art due to the campaign for this army being postponed till next year. However...in the Index Astartes forum, the Imperial Fists have gathered in the wake of the LPC, to start the first Imperial Fists Expansion. Seeing this as a perfect opportunity, I pledged a whole host of heresy era vows.

I pledged to paint, 2 Heresy era Land Raiders (the old RT ones), 4 Assault Terminators (which I plan to make into Huscarls, by using some Space Wolf parts), 9 Veterans with boarding Shields (all I know is that I want some of them to look the same as the Shadows of Treachery artwork from the upcoming Horus Heresy book), and lastly, and by no means least, I plan I adding Rogal Dorn himself to my force. I managed to get a hold of an appropriate model, and will paint him to the best of my ability.

So, this painting challenge is considerably more than my LPC vow, and since I completed that in under a month, Im hopeful I can complete this in time (touch wood). So without further ado, I present my first WIP shot of my land raider, that I started a while ago.

All I have done thus far is spray it black, and give it a couple of coats of Deneb Stone. Hopefully tonight I can add some Golden Yellow and wash it.

Hard to ask for any comments and criticisms at such an early stage, but they will be appreciated non the less. Also a big thanks to all the kind words for my Sigismund. Very happy with how he turned out, so its about time he had some buddies to lead the charge with.

Well, another nights work has meant I've finished the yellow for the tank. Now its just filling in the black. Still wandering what to do for the shield. Not too sure whether to make it halved or quartered?

As always any c&c most welcome.

Nice looking miniature.

Love the use of the old plastic gauntlets on the backpack, made me dig through my bitz box and joyously found seven pairs of arms myself :D I reckon they would go well on a FW MK III backpack...this thread is certainly setting inspiration grey cells into overdrive ;)

Also the little round Imperial Fists symbol from the bitz pack as a sort of fibula pinning the cloak to the armour on his left pauldron...brilliant. That would be great for using for a fist based icon chapter on a Sicarius conversion as well.

*wanders off to ponderland*

Thanks Marius Perdo!

I forget who I got the idea of the hands for the backpack, but it works really nicely. Those lilttle Fist symbols are very handy, shame I've used all mine up now, had at least 10 or 15 I think. As for the Sicarius version, already been there. Could check here if you'd like to check that out.

Cheers.

Well, I've completed the bulk of the main colours, and now just adding in the details. Hope to get the bulk of this finished tomorrow night, along with some OSL coming from the lights.

As always C&C welcome.

@ZAChos Thanks, I agree with you that this old kit has a certain kind of presence. I feel that when I'm painting this one, there is a lot of history to it. I've only ever used it in one game (an apocalypse game at that) but I can't imagine how many more its been in (as I got it off ebay quite some time ago). This has been sitting on my desk for some so I'm looking forward to painting it to a standard it deserves.

@Kierdale Cheers Kierdale, and there is many more in the pipeline. Looking forward to getting started on my veteran boarding marines after this.
