Well, its been a hectic week, with my second son teething, has meant I haven't had a lot of time for hobby (or sleep). However I have finally finished two boarding marines. Did a little freehand on the shields, but at this stage just building up my confidence for some better ones.

Working on the next two now, then I'll have to build another five to complete the squad.

As always c&c most welcome.

Lightning claw marine.

I love them Syth And I think that the shields look fine as they are :D (Unless you are going to add something like a Crux Terminatus but those may not have existed before the Codex Astartes.) Good luck with your son too, seems like you're in for a ride!

Looking awesome, if I can make a suggestion it would be to apply a small amount of thinned gryphonne sepia around your areas of battle damage it will slightly discolour the yellow and give the appearance of charring/residual run off.

Example 1 - Dreadnought leg

Example 2 - Dreadnought CCW

The freehand is looking really good so far fella, what would you like to do that you've not done already?

@Battle-Brother Ludovic: Cheers! Hopefully he sleeps sometime!

@WingsOfTheFalcon: Thanks for the tip! Might try that out tonight, son permitting. As for the freehand, at the moment I think its okay, but I'd really like to try and replicate some of the boarding shield designs from the Shadows of Treachery artwork. That's my end goal with this unit.

Interesting.. they certainly would be hard to deliver on such a small scale.

I'm ok with freehand so long as it's simple things I can block out like chapter badges, but that's way beyond my ability!

As an aside, did you notice the rebar poking out of the hole in the ship, not what I'd expect to be used to maintain the structural integrity of a starship!

Have you thought about getting some printable transfer paper, might be the easiest way to replicate such an intricate design?

@WingsOfTheFalcon: Yeah, looks challenging, and transfers would be the logical way to do it. Though I still want to try it. Might try and sketch it a few times in pencil and see it it can be replicated on that scale.

@Hellrender: Thanks! The lightning claw is one of my favs. Its from the veteran in the MKII box. Had a spare so decided to put it to use. I prefer the older type of lightning claws, to the newer type. just looks better imo.

I've never seen these before, is that mkII box from GW or forgeworld? They really look a lot better then the newer ones

That is from GW. A fine set of models indeed :D

Like Ludovic has said, they are from GW. They are actually the basis of my command squad in my hall of honour thread. Was a little pain sawing off all the arms so I could get storm shields, but got there in the end.

Beautiful, Syth. Your work just gets better and better. Keep it up, man!

Thats awesome. The power fist guy looks like he just slapped down an Iron Warrior.

'Iron Warriors Fail. Fists do not!'

Yeaaahh, about that. You have heard of the Iron Cage, right? :tu:

I keep hearing this guy giggling "Tee-hee", all safe and sound behind his shield.

Awesome army, Brother Syth. And +1 for choosing the working men of the Astartes.

@Marshal2 Crusaders: Cheers! I wanted to recreate the pose from the artwork, cos it was so awesome. Smashing an Iron Warrior down and then looking for the next target.

@Battle-Brother Ludovic: Thanks Ludovic, just need to make five more before this squad is complete. Can't wait to do a squad shot!

@1000heathens: Thanks so much! Big big big fan of your work. And I have been plying your threads for some inspiration for the next lot of marines, hopefully I can capture some of that awesome. Oh and depending on which Index Astartes article you read, the Iron Cage is a victory to the Fists, for showing the Iron Warriors they lack the commitment to finish off the Fists....at least that is what the chaplains keep saying...

@Greyall: Thanks for the kind words! Love your artwork, especially of Sigismund. Have since wanted to add a banner bearer to my force based off that picture, and it helped inspire my own Sigismund.

So finished the next two marines. Now I need to make the other five. I deliberately didn't make them all as I was kinda strapped for some good poses. Though after some research through various threads, I have pilfered some ideas for the next lot.

With the first marine, I took WingsOfTheFalcon's advice, and put some sepia around the battle damage. Tbh, I don't really notice too much of a difference, but I wait to see what you guys think. I also tried some different freehand on these marines. They aren't the best, but I'm building up my confidence. So with text aside, here are some images.

Cheers for the comments! Have unfortunately been unable to do much this week, due to a certain son being up all night. Have had all the pieces on my desk awaiting construction for awhile now. Will try tonight to at least get one finished and uploaded.
